Fictional characters you hated but ended up loving.
#1
For me, it's Usopp from One Piece. I remember when I got back into One Piece earlier this year, ranting and raving in the chatbox about how much I hated Usopp for being a sheer and utter pussy, but the more seasons that passed by, the more funned I grew of the comical aspect of Usopp, to the point where I'm 11 seasons into One Piece and I have to state that Usopp is without doubt my favouite character in the anime. Sniper King is a close second but that's it! Finito!

Usopp - He was so annoying, but then things happened in Water 7, Enies Lobby & then after Enies Lobby.

Sasuke - He was cool at first, then he became a whiny bitch, but he got better... I guess.

Gilgamesh- He was an arrogant prick at first but I soon grew to love it...also he's just super badass and he ended killing a lot of people

Just watched Neon Genesis Evangelian and... welll... the dub nearly made me hate nearly alll of the main characters. The story thankfully helped me think otherwise near the end.

Uzas from the Night Lords trilogy. I won't spoil anything, but for nurgle's sake go and read it.

BlackStar from Soul Eater, dude had some major character development and ended up being one of my favorite characters from the series.

Sai from Naruto. From absolute rage-induced hatred to being one of my favorite characters. I just wish they had drawn him a shirt that fit him. Shit looks ridic.

Dondochakka and Pesche from Bleach. Hated them until like the very last scene they were in, when they finally stopped acting like morons.

Lambo GOD i hated this little cowhead.... but he becomes rather awesome later on...you learn to love him.

Usopp is a given....

Jaime "the Kingslayer" Lannister , Hated his guts, but as the seasons continue... i am loving his character !

Nathan Young ( From misfits ) Didn't like the character one bit in the first episode... started loving him thanks to his humor.

And then there is Roger from American dad..he .... No sorry still hate him.

All the characters in the Confederacy of independent systems.
I didn't really care much for them at first but after much research I truly found myself supporting their movement all the way.

Yuuka KazamiBig Grines is like that one meme like... "How many levels of Omniverse are you on?"

Revan Noctis : Desman what are you currently doing in the omniverse?
Desman Black: I'm faking an engagement to a sex deamon to stop two samurai I accidently summoned whipping them in half, while also trying to stop them from doing the same thing to my best freind who is currently having relations with said deamon, and wh has now accidently summoned his previous girlfreind. So you know... normal stuff

Why did nobody bring up Snape yet? In the last book he went from one of the most hated characters to one of the best.

For me it was Cilan from the Pokemon anime. It wasn't even because I thought he was a bad character, it was because he took Brock's place almost unwarranted. I hadn't expected Brock to leave, which made it more jarring. But it didn't take long for me to grow attached to him, more so than Brock.

For me, I've got a few: Corkus, who I found sort of irritating when he hit the scene in Berserk, but during the eclipse events quickly got pretty into (Which, spoilers, was a terrible time to start doing that)

Also: Weiss, actually, for a little while. She seemed very bratty and annoying for the first couple episodes... until I took a couple steps back and actually thought about what really laid at the root of that all. As a result, I ended up seeing a lot of strength there hidden underneath the surface.

Ganju from bleach. Wished he wasn't there the first few episodes, loved him by the end of soul society arc, still to this day hate that he never got to do anything after that.

Lars from Steven Universe. Hated his guts until it become clear what his deal was. I can even sort of relate to him in an odd sort of way.

Diamond Tiara from MLP probably counts. She came off as a stereotypical rich bully character, but then I pieced it together. In that show, the rich are raised from birth to think that they are better and more important than the poor, and I imagined she must have gone through the same upbringing. So imagine growing up being taught that while your dad continuously bow to the biggest business owners in the region, a bunch of country bumpkins who run a farm. No wonder she targets that family's youngest member, she's trying to allign things to the only world view she understands. That was my headcanon for the longest time and I always saw her as a tragic character, a child who just doesn't know any better and never will because she's never taught otherwise.

Then the show right up confirms all of that five seasons in. God was I happy.

(I've never heard "transplant" used to refer to an immigrant before. Still horrible.)
