PesterOmni Instructions/Guide

Your name is [CHARACTER NAME]. On this day, your communications device that grants you access to the DATAVERSE has produced a NEW and STRANGE sound that you have never heard it make before. Naturally, you check to see WHAT IS UP.

A MYSTERIOUS NEW ICON has appearified on your buttons/screen/hologram/etc. It is flashing at you.

What will you do?

PesterOmni is a chat client to be used for communication between friends! It doesn’t matter the distance between one another— you’ll still be able to keep in touch!

[NOTE: To even begin messaging in the Dataverse, you will need to purchase a Communicator(optional)(200 OM) and a Mobile Dataverse Device(100 OM), or you will need to be near a computer terminal with access to the Dataverse. The difference between having just a Mobile Dataverse Device versus having a Mobile Dataverse Device AND a Communicator is that you won't be able to be notified of replies to the message boards in real-time without a Communicator. I hope that's been made clear, I understand that my earlier instructions were a little weird grammar-wise.]

To join PesterOmni, you must first come up with a chumhandle! A chumhandle is an online handle/username that consists of two descriptive words. The first descriptive word is typed in all lower case letters, while the second has the first letter of the word capitalized.

FOR EXAMPLE: gardenGnostic, cuttlefishCuller, turntechGodhead, gallowsCalibrator, grimAuxiliatrix, golgothasTerror, arsenicCatnip, twinArmageddons, ETC.

These two words should pertain to your character’s personality or interests.

On top of that, you will need to decide on a particular text color to type messages in [Here’s a website to help you find that perfect HEX COLOR CODE. ALSO---  If your character has a very specific color on their person that you would like to emulate, you can use THIS WEBSITE to do that! You upload an image of your character and then click on whatever color you want in the picture, and the Hex code will show up on the left side of the box! Cool right?].

Also, you will need to come up with a typing quirk. A typing quirk is something like TYPING IN ALL CAPITALS or 0bn0xii0usly substiitutiing numb3r5 f0r l3tt3r5, or adding extra letters where they are not really needed. Note the double ‘i’s in the word substituting in the previous sentence. I bet you thought I hecked that up, didn’t you? Alternatively, you can type in perfect syntax or even rhymes if you would like.

You can also identify your mood (ideally above your chat/pesterlog post with the label, “MOOD: [ INSERT Chummy/Palsy/One of the words listed below]“) with the use of these six emoticons: Nevermind! You can't use emoticons, just use the words listed below.

Unfortunately, with this version of PesterOmni there are no past-messaging capabilities, and so you cannot message a past version of yourself to avoid that troll skulking about behind the boulder over there. Yeesh, talk about inconvenient!

To start messaging in the memo started by Jade Harley(gardenGnostic), utilize this code and substitute values in the indicated places!

Then type your message.

FOR EXAMPLE:

To quit messaging the memo AT THE END OF YOUR POST/LOG, replace the text ‘responded to the memo’ with ‘ceased responding to the memo’. You can use this to signal that you’ve left the memo and will return later to see if anyone else has messaged in it.

FINAL NOTE: Be very careful when posting! You won’t be able to go back and edit your post after you have made it, so it could end up being a big bother for the staff if you aren’t thorough with it! Just make sure you’ve replaced the right text and PREVIEW before you post.

I haven't finished reading Homestuck yet... but from what I've seen, it's only the group who use Trollian (AT, GC, GA, etc.) who have typing quirks (other than maybe not bothering to capitalise words)... and even then, I don't think that actually has anything to do with the program itself.

Still, it's a neat idea. I'll have to try this out myself at some point... once I eventually get around to making a character.

Well, since we have a bunch of characters from several different universes, some of backgrounds outside of troll or human, I figured it would be alright if typing quirks were used. There's really no harm in it, either!
