[/float]Location/Role: Triel Baenre is the Matron Mother of Menzoberranzan, the underground city of the drow located out in the rugged and more mountainous part of the outer Pale Moors. The city, over a mile beneath sea level, is constantly growing alongside its Matron Mother. Triel only rarely leaves the city, knowing that there is no one competent enough to guide its vicious denizens in her absence. Her influence and ability to project her deadly citizens beyond the walls of the city grow with each passing month.
History: The drow are from a world call Faerun, where they reside in a place deep underground known as the Underdark. It is there that these subterranean ‘dark elves’ make their homes, scheme their plots, and worship their goddess, the Spider Queen Lolth. Drow society is one of murder, intrigue, and betrayal, but all of this is kept in check by a tight social order and hierarchy of ruling clans. At the top of the hierarchy was House Baenre—unofficial rulers of the city (because of their nature, drow would never willing accept dominance by one figure). Triel was one of the daughters of House Baenre’s Matron Mother, and due to her prominence, she served as the Mistress Mother of Arach-Tinilith as a high-priestess.
When her mother was slain in a failed attempt to conquer Mithral Hall, Triel took control of the house and its unofficial status as the leaders of the drow city-state. She had barely settled into her role as Matron Mother when she was taken to the Omniverse.
After her arrival in the Omniverse, Triel wandered. In this strange world she was separated from Lolth, but with that, there was a degree of freedom that was strangely euphoric. The god of this new world had removed all the limitations of her race, and while her powers had been sapped, she knew that she could regain them. Even more alluring, she knew she could be more here than she could ever been in Menzoberranzan.
Triel traversed the Omniverse over the course of a few months, scoping out the societies and tribes that called it home. Once she felt strong enough, she settled in a desolate place called the Pale Moors, where the only centralized location, the town of Darkshire, would offer little threat to her own designs.
Emulated after her home city, Triel created a much smaller Menzoberranzan beneath the rugged terrain deep in the Pale Moors. As the city grew and took shape, so too did its population, and after a few years, Triel found herself once again Matron Mother of the drow. [float=right]
[/float]This time, however, there were no rival houses to scheme against her. These were her drow, forged from her own mind and her own hands.
Now firmly entrenched in the underground city, the drow have begun to probe out into the Pale Moors. Rumors spread that Triel played a minor role in orchestrating the path of the Tarrasque’s destruction, and there were accounts of drow working with packs of darkspawn before the banishing of the Archdemon.
Whatever the drow’s plans, it is obvious that they are not friends of Darkshire or anyone who lives above the surface.
