It had been months since the expedition ship Lara was on had crashed onto the shore of the century’s lost Kingdom of Yamatai and wondered upon the extremist cult of the Solarii, a cult that worshipped the powerful witch known as the Sun Queen. Despite their efforts no one was able to rescue her or the group, if they tried their plane crashed because of a lightning bolt, their helicopter was ripped apart midair by a flurry of powerful wind, or their boar was sunk by the quasisentient waters surrounding the island. Whatever was keeping them there was powerful and nearly indomitable until Lara got the crew back together and they destroyed that thing that had essentially kidnapped them from the world. It was hard to survive there, really hard, and they lost people that matteredc, people that they loved including mentors and even lovers. It made her internally tremble with the fear of losing them all if this last escape effort didn't work. She promised Alex and the old man that she would get the rest of the crew out of here, and promised herself she wouldn't let anyone else die. It was important that she got everyone home and Lara would be damned if they got hurt.
"Start the engines!" The engineer yelled out just before smoke bustled up from the engine and the old motor boat they were in shot forward across the water. While everyone else was cheering in excitement, her best friend Sam squealing, Lara couldn't help but look back at Yamatai and remember Alex, and the old man, and everyone else they'd lost. She tilted her head upwards and to the right, biting her left cheek before sighing a heavy breath of anxiety. The air seemed to become tainted with her worry and the calm waters immediately disappeared. Lara turned to check on the crew in worry and grabbed ahold of the motor to steer the boat when the big guy was tossed to the side. Salty water rose up all around them and through the dense mist created by the miniature storm Lara could see what looked like the silhouette of a woman in an ancient dress wearing a crown, a woman with such power she could control storms and break the very fabric of reality itself. Her thoughts were cut short as she felt her body scream unwillingly once the boat wrecked to the left, everything went black. Luckily for Lara someone with more power would intervene.
Croft woke up hovering in a cold empty space, a mysterious being in front of her as she floated weightless and guided by some unknown force to ensure that she didn't float away from the man speaking to her. "My name is Omni, you are in the Nexus, or at least part of it." She couldn't speak but this thing knew her thoughts, that's when she noticed every piece of equipment sxcept her climbing axe and compound bow were missing. "Don't worry, you'll be able to earn them back eventually, but with your gear you would have been too powerful to just start out." Lara noticed that every question or even instinctual response she had was answered or remedied with a clarification, it was interesting and there was something about this Omni that didn't make her want to pqnic and instead kept the young woman fairly calm, so calm you could call it serene or zen. With all of Lara's questions answered in the time of what seemed like a few moments instead of the hours long debate it should have been, the curious twenty one year old was asked what world they wanted to go to. The choice was difficult, should she choose a world of high technology or one that thrived on magic and fantasy or a world of so-called Shinobi, or even a wild west like setting that thrived on something just barely recognizable as order? In the end the choice was simple and she chose the one that seemed like the most refreshing, the Endless Dunes seemed like the most interesting since she hadn't ever gotten to experience the wild west or anything like it. This was going to be an interesting journey to say the least, and honestly she liked trouble.
Lara just hoped that her crew would be there to meet her and as the interdimensionally known Tomb Raider dropped through a portal and landed on her feet in the sand Lara hoped that everything would be as interesting as she thought it would be to her so that she could have some fun up in this new and strange place. Plus it seemed like there would be a lot to explore in this world, and knowing the young Croft she never got tired of exploration since there was always something new.
