Story: Like many prominent figures in the Omniverse, it’s hard to separate fact from farce when it comes to the history of the man known as Immortan Joe. The most accurate records may come from those who used to run with Joe’s gang when he was still topside, and their accounts shall form the basis of our ‘facts.’

A military officer, Joe lived in a world where law and order gradually collapsed into something immaterial. Things like oil and clean water became rare necessities that people would murder to acquire. Joe was one such person who was willing to do what was necessary to survive in this world. After wars pushed society into oblivion, Joe formed a gang of zealous followers that captured various supplies and settlements. This culminated in Joe’s capture of ‘the Citadel,’ a source of purified water that turned him from a man into a god. The Immortan’s capture of an oil refinery and lead mine gave him the guzzolene and bullets he needed to fuel a powerful armada of chrome warriors.

At the height of this empire, the Immortan was brought into the Omniverse. While it’s said that he may have traveled for a time (as primes are want to do), he eventually settled into the Endless Dunes. As is the case with many primes, he probably saw something of his homeworld in the rolling deserts and barren stretches of arid terrain. Never one who played nice, the Immortan made no allies in the Endless Dunes.

Joe’s ‘War Boys’ ran roughshod—their shiny chrome war machines leaving devastation wherever they went. Worshipping Joe and the V8, the War Boys terrorized the Endless Dunes, making life miserable for the ‘natives’ and the Empire, who was at the height of its presence in the region. After nearly two years of trying to play containment with the Immortan, Coruscant organized an elite paramilitary force and sent them to deal with the War Boys once and for all. Nearly two platoons of elite marines and half a hundred of the Empire’s most powerful mechanized war machines marched deep into the Endless Dunes.

After fifty hours of warfare, Joe’s War Boys were broken. The marines suffered a casualty rate of nearly sixty percent, but they defeated and banished Immortan Joe. When these elite marines returned to Coruscant, they found a city that had been besieged by Diablo during their absence in what became known as the Battle of Coruscant.

Banished to the Underverse, Immortan Joe murdered anything that attempted to impede him. He left a trail of bodies in his wake and quickly had a small warband to support him. Ultimately, he garnered the attention of Diablo, who saw Joe’s ‘potential.’

Immortan Joe was all-too pleased to accept Diablo’s gift of power. Able to reforge his War Boys and his chrome armada, Joe became the overlord of the Salt Flats. He and his warband march across the region with nothing to oppose them. Wayward souls or those fleeing persecution from the Central Hellscape often find a fate worse than death when they come into the possession of Immortan Joe.

That isn’t to say that the Immortan doesn’t respect many qualities in others. What would you be willing to abandon in your quest to escape the Underverse?

Jones, a surprisingly charismatic individual despite his black heart, is known to take on new members of his crew. He also holds great influence with Diablo as one of the unofficial ‘lords of Hell.’
Backstory:
Unlike many of the primes in the Underverse, Davy Jones has an illustrious career while he was in the Omniverse. After his arrival, he quickly found himself in the Vasty Deep, where he was drawn to the opportunities provided by the Imperial Navy headquartered at Costa del Sol. Originally from a world of privateering on the high seas, Jones adapted quickly to the ‘quirks’ of the Omniverse.

One of the first officers in the Imperial Navy, Captain Jones made a career out of enforcing the Empire’s will upon the citizens of the Vasty Deep. Despite his efficiency, Jones was also known for his lack of utter empathy and disregard for human life. When Coruscant was attacked by the forces of Diablo, Jones ordered his crew to disembark and seize control of various landmarks in Costa del Sol. Those who resisted were cut down by the Dutchman’s crew, and it wasn’t until Imperial forces arrived that Jones had his men stood down.[float=right][/float]

In Jones’ eye, he had simply acted to ensure that Costa del Sol didn’t fall into panic or find itself undefended in the event of demons pouring through the nearby Gate. The Empire saw his actions as an attempted coup. The Flying Dutchman was scuttled and its crew was executed by firing squad. Unfortunately, a fate worse than death was reserved for Captain Davy Jones. He was banished to the Underverse.

When Jones ‘arrived’ in the Underverse, he wasted little time in cutting a bloody swathe in his wake. His fury and ruthlessness drew the attention of Diablo, who personally sought out the captain. Rather than tear him to pieces, Diablo recognize the blackheart of the man and offered him what he knew Davy Jones could not turn down--power and the pull of the ‘high seas.’

From that moment on, Davy Jones became the undisputed ruler of the Acid Baths--the Underverse’s closest thing to the Seven Seas. Empowered by Diablo, Davy Jones set out on a new Flying Dutchman with a new crew. They malicious hunted runaways of various sorts who tried to find solace in the corrosive, filthy ocean. Overtime, something started to change in Jones and his crew. Whether it was from Diablo’s initial gift of power or something in the atmosphere of the Acid Baths, Jones and his men started to change. Story: A human woman bore near the end of the world, Scylla lived in a place called Thedas. Born a powerful psychic with the ability to command the elements and influence the minds of lesser folk, Scylla lived a sheltered life. She developed a love for history. Heroes rose to prominence as kingdoms were laid low. Through it all, humanity managed to flourish, much like a forest does after an annual burning.
Looking at the dying world around her, Scylla began to think that the lack of such great conflicts had led to the gradual crumbling of Thedas. But better yet… what if these darkspawn had won? What if they had been allowed to make the world over in their image? They were unitary creatures, linked to one consciousness, unlike the harsh society that shunned her as an outsider. Perhaps the darkspawn had been the heroes all along?
That is, until the Prodigal Son of the ‘good’ doctors’ stuck his nose into her affairs. Aided by the sacrifice of one of his brothers and the efforts of the plagued Whirda Windstrom, Proto Man was able to track down where Scylla resided. With the collapse of the Black Gate, the Underverse is now separated from the rest of the Omniverse, leaving Tyrael’s ultimate fate and current status unknown.

Story: Tyrael’s exact origins, much like his ultimate fate, are the stuff of legend in the Omniverse. The account that follows will seek to piece together verbal and written accounts of the man in order to create the most coherent narrative.

Tyrael arrived in the Omniverse around the same time as the first raids were launched from the Underverse. No one is exactly certain where the man went or what he did following his arrival. Tyrael first enters the history of the Kingdom on a fateful day when an entire garrison a few miles from Minas Tirith was ambushed during the night hours.

Terrified and unprepared, the defenders either fled or were butchered in their sleep. Out of nowhere, however, Tyrael charged head-first at them, his stern expression never wavering as he slaughtered the beasts. His act motivated the survivors to turn around and fight back, preventing the demonic raiding party from fleeing the field.

After this act of bravery and courage, Tyrael was brought to Minas Tirith. He was ushered into the private quarters of King Aragorn, where they discussed matters that have never been made public. Most speculate that Tyrael had information about Diablo. In the aftermath of the meeting, Tyrael left Camelot to continue his personal crusade against the demon of the Underverse.

For the next several years, Tyrael became something of a wandering legend. He seemed to appear whenever individuals were under attack by Diablo’s forces, but he never stuck around in the aftermath. Many farmers, nomads, and villages started to refer to Tyrael as a ‘guardian angel.’ There are even censored accounts of imperial troopers being rescued from certain destruction by a sword-wielding wanderer.

Fighting alongside Tyrael during a skirmish or battle became a badge of pride for many Kingdom soldiers. One of the most famous accounts is from Baron Victor von Magnus, who found himself trapped inside a cavern by a platoon of hellions. Before they could overwhelm him and drag him away to their master, Tyrael descended ‘as if from the heavens themselves’ into the heart of the demon’s ranks and started to strike them down with a holy fury. Throughout the entire conflict with Diablo, there isn’t a single account of Tyrael that doesn’t place him in a positive light.

It wasn’t until the Kingdom was on the verge of collapse that Tyrael arrived outside the gates to Minas Tirith with a message for King Aragorn: “I found the way.”

While he wouldn’t share the exact method, Tyrael claimed that he had discovered the means to bring Diablo’s reign of terror to an end. To do so, however, would require they enter the Underverse itself, a feat that none had dare attempt. Despite public backlash against the outlandish notion of marching an army to the Black Gate, King Aragorn pushed ahead with the plan, wholly trusting Tyrael. The king proceeded to call in every favor he had in order to amass a giant army comprised of natives from numerous verses. After several weeks, the army departed Camelot for Darkshire and the hellscape that lie between the city and the Black Gate.

The army suffered only slight losses at it crossed the Pale Moors. It wasn’t until they arrived at the Black Portal that Aragorn realized they’d been duped into over-extending themselves. From all around the army, DIablo’s forces enveloped them. Vastly outnumbered, the forces beneath King Aragorn fought valiantly to drive their way to the Gate itself. At the peak of desperation, the king’s inner circle made it to the Black Gate and entered the Underverse.

What transpired on the other side is up for speculation, because the four survivors choose to never speak of whatever hells they endured in the Underverse. All that is known is that the energies that held the Black Gate together imploded seconds after the King and his retinue returned, without Tyrael. The legend goes that Tyrael’s plan involved a self-sacrifice to seal away Diablo and the Underverse from the rest of the Omniverse.

Even though he has never been seen since the Battle of the Black Gate, Tyrael lives on in folklore. While never an egotist or someone who ever wanted credit for the good he performed, Tyrael lives on as a symbol of justice, freedom, and righteousness. Much like any religious figure, Tyrael has been used by countless groups as an icon or a role model. Strangely enough, there are known accounts of individuals with diametrically opposed political beliefs who idolize Tyrael for their own reasons.

While being banished has become an established part of the Omniverse and primes have often been banished for their beliefs, Tyrael is often considered the only true martyr. He is so revered that many theorize he could have even been a personification of Omni or that Tyrael’s second coming will usher in a new age of prosperity in the Omniverse, free from the inter-verse and inter-factional wars that plague it.

Either way, the lack of sightings of Volvagia has led to a great deal of folktales and hyperbole. The few reliable stories have three central themes—fire, terror, and death. Only half a dozen individuals (four of which are elder Gorons) have seen Volvagia and lived. They claim that the dragon slumbers in an enormous magma chamber, stirring only enough to deal with interlopers. The Goron elders fear that one day the sleeping Volvagia will truly awaken, causing Death Mountain to erupt and heralding an end to their society and an even darker age of the Omniverse. Until then, they continue to guard the lower slopes of Death Mountain from the spawn of Volvagia.

Volvagia was slain and banished by the Institute and Darunia of the Gorons. The massive creature fell into the Underverse like a slain phoenix--its body broken and maimed by its final battles. It was in this state that Diablo found the massive creature -- the largest of any prime to be banished to his realm. He offered to ease its suffering and to make it whole again. He offered the creature more strength than it had ever known and its own personal domain.

Volvagia accepted the offer and was restored by the Lord of Terror. Diablo transformed the creature of Hyrulian legend into something that could devour entire kingdoms and slaughter an army of heroes.

No longer a slumbering creature of legend and lore…

Volvagia is awake.

And he shall never rest again.
While it was once a slumbering monster, it now roams the region with a hunger that is insatiable. Its rapidly-spreading progeny infest the super heated region as well. Only an idiot would seek out the Hell Drake.
Some claim that the monster is as old as the Ashen Plains, making him more a force of nature than an individual.
Location/Role: Diablo, the Scourge of the Omniverse, is imprisoned in his home, the Underverse.

...Aside from this fact, no other details are known. Only four men ventured into the Underverse and returned, and of the primes to have been banished there, none have returned. It can only be surmised that Diablo reigns supreme.

Story: Nothing is known of Diablo’s origins. It is still hotly debated as to whether or not he was an original prime or if he falls into the category of ‘force of nature.’ All that is understood is that, one cold and dreary day, raids consisting of demons, undead, and other nightmarish creatures started to become a part of daily life in the Pale Moors. Within a few weeks, Coruscant and Camelot were both being raided frequently by these creatures. When sentient/intelligent prisoners were taken, they would only state that they served Diablo.

The raids would continue for nearly two years and take an increasingly larger toll on Camelot. The arrival of new primes to the Omniverse provided a much-needed boon for the Kingdom, which would enter a small age of prosperity before the war took a turn. The raids stopped for a week, which was just long enough for many to believe they had finally ended. Then, on another somber morning in Minas Tirith, a missive arrived that an army had been spotted in the Pale Moors: An army of monsters and demons.

King Aragorn rushed with his army to the Pale Moors, and while he succeeded in saving Darkshire, the rest of the Moors fell under Diablo’s control. Most of the Moors withered and died over the comings years, turning one of the most beautiful verses into a ghastly shell of its former self. From the Black Gate, the armies of Diablo would march out into the rest of the Omniverse, assaulting Coruscant and decimating much of Camelot.

It was at the peak of desperation that the wanderer Tyrael returned to Minas Tirith to inform King Aragorn that he had discovered the means to sever the Underverse from the Omniverse. In order to do so, he would have to enter the Underverse itself, a terrifying feat from which no one had returned. Wholly believing Tyrael, King Aragorn called in all of his favors and marched the Grand Army to the Black Gate.

The Battle at the Black Gate is documented in various sources. In the aftermath, the forces of Diablo stranded in the Pale Moors either fled or were struck down in their lethargy. Despite being separated from the Underverse, many of the demons survive today, either alone or by falling in with Count Dracula.

In the aftermath of the Battle at the Black Gate, ‘banishment’ became the worst punishment in the Omniverse. Through this technology/magic, primes can be sent to the Underverse, from which none have returned. During the conflict with Diablo and even in the aftermath, there are those who worship the ‘Lord of Terror’ as a god. They view him as the savior of the Omniverse rather than its defiler. The founding families of Silent Hill maintained such a cult until the town was overtaken by fog and transformed into its current state. Sects that worship Diablo still exist in Coruscant’s lower tiers and in Camelot.

Presently there are efforts in both major verses to suppress discussion of Diablo outside of a historical context. It is said that those in power all fear the day that the Black Gate reopens and the seemingly endless army of Diablo makes its return.
