Enjoying the company of his hosts, Setsu was reluctant to head out into the cold again. Still, it was time. He had asked his questions and received acceptable answers to the matter of his new setting in this Omniverse from the dwarves and it was the proper time to find greater purchase on the broader reality of this strange place.

The target was to return to the home of the fountain and select a new gate. Perhaps there was something greater that might occur when each gate had been entered and properly investigated. He wasn't completely done here, and planned to come back, but the cold wasn't his natural environment as an adult. He liked more the heat and the sun.

Coming out of the cave entrance and emerging into the cold was refreshing, still, and he expected to miss it once it as gone.

Then the wind whipped up and chilled him as it did, and his convictions were invigorated. So off he went into the midday cold.

"Of course these are well made as well."

Trying his restraints once more, the intricate knots preventing him from achieving the correct angle to release himself with his techniques. It was clear that he was safely their prisoner now, otherwise they would have just slit his throat in his sleep. Hardly reassuring but a prisoner is still in the same category as the rest of the living, so that was something. Probably wasn't the greatest idea to sleep here. In fact, it almost didn't feel like his idea at all. So confusing.

He must have been snoring loudly because the fact he was awake was beginning to be discussed down the hall, from what he could hear.

"Well, I suppose we better go give our regards to the chef."

One voice commented while the others laughed raucously. This was reassuring, they seemed at least well humored.

Torchlight flared into the room as the first of the group walked in. It was a short and hearty-looking humanoid. Bearded and covered in leather and furs. The others were similar looking and totaled at three, following behind with weapons already drawn.

"Alright... I assume you can understand that you are an intruder here."

Setsu nodded affirmative, smiling and making sure to hold the gaze of each dwarf, briefly.

"...and, despite the food you left out for us, have forced us to take you prisoner."

Setsu nodded affirmative again. All this made sense to him.

"Ok... Well, we don't really have much desire to carry you to a dungeon given that we just ate. So if you have some way to verify that you are not an agent of Zul'gurand, the Kingdom or Coruscant, that'd be greatly appreciated."

Setsu tilted his head to the side, clearly curious.

"I can't say I'm an agent of anything other than myself. Especially, given that I don't know what these things you listed are."

He paused, eyeing the Omnillium orb in one of the Dwarves behind the one in charge's hands.

"That orb there is perhaps the only proof I could offer that I'm not from here. I traveled directly from the Fountain with that orb there to where we are now. Since arriving in this world I've not seen a soul. You four are the first living creatures I've seen."

He said, just feet from the spike trap that could have killed a less wary traveler. The Dwarves exchanged glances and the one carrying the orb stared into it, mesmerized. They didn't have many options here, clearly each one had overeaten and no one among them seemed to offer a way that could more easily verify the stranger's story. So they shrugged and nodded to one another. It was time to simply follow protocol.

"Listen stranger, I've no interest in any more stories than need be heard, and since we don't know you we can't verify anything. So I'll just put it to you straight. We of the mountain city of Dwarfholm don't suffer fools, and stumbling around in our game traps is very foolish. We Dwarves have an open door policy to you sorts of travelers, however, this situation is the sort of thing one must be cautious of. You unknowingly cooked a good meal for my men and I, we don't wish you harm, but we cannot allow you to go further into the mountain."

Setsu followed this train of thought, nodding throughtout. This definitely sounded better than being put back up on the slide into the spikes or having his head caved by a hammer.

"Here's what is gonna happen. We're gonna walk you out of another entry to our tunnel network, blindfolded. We'll return your belongings and send you on your way."

Setsu spoke, beginning to feel some measure of hope. "How wonderfully reasonable you are! I sincerely appreciate it and I hope you did enj- hey! Hmm!!"

The dwarves had shoved a rag in his mouth, followed by a black bag and rope over his head.

- -

Sometime later Setsu was tossed out into the snow, restraints and bag and all. He heard his board and the orb land next to him.

"If you'd like to return to Dwarfholm for any reason, we, the Dwarven citizenry, will require you to demonstrate a degree of fealty to our kind and our Monarch. That means we will need to see a chunk of Cobalt, a Wompa hide and, if you think you can manage it, a Troll tusk. Assuming you can manage this, you will be welcomed in. Good luck, if you choose to proceed, and stay warm."

A fluttering of material could be heard and another object landed next to Setsu. The cloth bag over his head began to dampen as the sounds of his former captors disappeared.

Struggling to break free he managed to draw his hands far enough apart to activate Oniyuri, tearing the rope apart that bound his legs and arms. Removing the bag from his head, Setsu's eyes were greeted with more darkness. It had become evening, of course, having slept through the day. The other object turned out to be a heavy cloak that would have to work as a blanket.

He wasn't sure he would survive this night inside a shallow cave and had no option to yet return to the Dwarven tunnels, which supposedly led to a city. He could take the chance and hope for a better welcoming party, but it made more sense to stay active at night so as to be able to comfortably and safely sleep in the daytime. His best bet it seemed at radically improving his lot here was to do as he had been instructed by the Dwarf.

"Well, I guess it's time to find a Wampatroll or whatever."

Setsu said to himself, hoping he could remember exactly what he was supposed to collect.

Kuroji Setsu made it to a cave before nightfall. He was regretful for his choice of gate now, but was certain that going back was not the correct route to take. Perhaps waking early the next day would offer a chance to explore this realm properly. Setsu slept with difficulty wrapped in his scarf, with no campfire, and using the orb of Omnillium as a pillow. He dreamt of his ninja village an it's decent into madness under it's leader, Setsu's teacher. A war resembling other foundational wars throughout the history of Setsu's world. War's for total control of the world and it's foundational energies. This time through a devious control of the minds of average citizens. It helped, perhaps, that these dreams led Setsu through a feverish sleep and he woke in the early part of the morning covered in sweat, pourly rested and foggy minded.

Haunted by the night's images of his past life he crept out the cave and wandered out into the frosty landscape. What a contrast this was to the world and tropic island he had traveled from.

Hania embraced the warm comforts of the plasma-fuelled fire she sat next to. It had taken a long time for the fledgling expedition to get this far into the center of the Omniverse, a task not made easier by the sheer number of close calls they’d had, nearly getting whacked by wampas one minute, before being forced to dodge a Troll patrol. The complete lack of a prime amongst them had made for… a disappointing start.

just as well. If we had a prime, they’d probably insist on fighting these guys to show off, maybe get some of us killed, while trying to claim the credit without doing anything useful… stupid jerks.

Besides…

Hania patted her bow, sitting by her side on a rough log Ur’gash had been playing with on the way here. They were just fine the way they were. Hania had fought all sorts of monsters and Demons back in her original world, before dealing with this weird omniverse situation. She’d been defending herself long before she’d ever came here, and she’d never needed some fancy immortality to beat the odds. Smiling, she looked up at Jack, sitting on the log nearest her. “Thanks for lightin’ the fire, Jack. Sure we got enough wood to burn?” She asked with a smile to the person sitting opposite her.

The man adjusted one massive, metal-plated arm, cocking the arm-mounted plasma thrower on the side. “Hey, you lightin’ the fire? That’s like an hour’s work. Me? About two seconds with this little beauty. Don’t mention it. Been feelin’ useless all day as is.”

Hania shrugged. “Well, given you’re head of security, that isn’t a bad thing. Besides, you helped Ur’gash unload the tents.

“Like the Ogre needed my help. Only thing that worries me with that one is keeping him fed. And making sure he doesn’t choke on a rock he mistook for food.” The Firebat added with a chuckle.

Hania smiled. “You used to be in a colony back in your home place, right? I’m sure you’ll be more use once we find a proper place to set up.”

“Wouldn’t count on it. The general rule of thumb for setting up in a frozen hellscape back on my world is ‘Don’t.’”

Hania shrugged, smiling on her makeshift bench. “Yeah. But you came anyways.”

“What can I say? Gettin’ sick of finding oppressive governments everywhere. Figured if I wanted to finally do something about it, here’s the place!”

Hania put her hands behind her head as she stretched. “Even in winter clothes this place is pretty terrible though. Here’s hoping we find a spot to settle down sooner rather than later.”

Jack shrugged. “The locations we got to inspect are pretty damn vague. For some odd reason, seems like no one’s all that interested in investigatin’ the Frozen fields. Might be the cold. Might be the trolls. Might just be due to the fact that when it comes to most of the field, survey says “A whole lotta nothin’”.

Hania grins. “But isn’t that exciting? We get to be explorers! Discover the undiscovered frontier! Become pioneers of the omniverse! And we’re not even primes!” Hania squeaked in excitement.

“I’ll take being boring and alive over being pioneerin’ and dead- Jack added with a slight chuckle. “-Is what I would say, but you did end up roping me in on this crazy expedition, so maybe not.”

The halfling laughed at that. “Who knows? Maybe you have a thing for short girls?” She asked with a smirk.

The firebat just chuckled at the jibe. “Tell you what? Wipe the memory outta my head off you covered in blood, carvin’ up that poor little snow turkey, and maybe we’ll have a date.”

“Darn! Knew I shoulda taken a level in Psychic!”

“-wow!” The pair heard a familiar voice behind them. Turning around, they saw what’d normally be a pretty normal girl, at least, until you got to the white hair - oh, and those cute little ears twitching at the top of her head.

“Charsi! How’s our favorite Husky?” Hania asked.

“Husky Faunus! And I’m fine!” The girl added, putting one hand into her pocket. “Was gonna check if you guys wanted another beer, but if this is what the conversation’s turned into, I think I’m actually gonna cut you off.”

“Party pooper!” Hania added, sticking out her upper lip - which, as the bitter chill made it’s way inside her mouth, she realized was a very bad idea. “Of all the bartenders without a bar I’ve ever met, you’re the cruelest!”

“You know I’m giving you these drinks for free right now, right?” Charsi asked with a quirked eyebrow. “Buuut, if I’m really that cruel, maybe you can just enjoy a few weeks sober-”

“No wait, I take it back! I take it back! I take it all back!” Hania whined. “Come on, it gets dark at night and I get scared without a little something to take the edge off!”

“Lies and slander. But fine, you pass anyways.” The husky girl stated.

Jack patted a seat on the log next to him. “You could come sit down, y’know. Enjoy some conversation and off-time before we get back on the road.”

“Nah. I’m good. Fine.” Charsi stated, putting up her hands. “Fire too hot. I’m fine with just me, a blanket on the snow, and the moon, thank you very much!”

Hania shrugged. “Well, enjoy it for now. Way our supplies are going, might need to march an extra hour tomorrow if we wanna get to our first destination at a good clip.”

“Awww~” The Dog girl whined. “I can’t wait till we actually get to work building this stupid camp. This is too much walking for me. I’d pay good money to get an airship.”

Frost grunted from his wooden perch. “Can’t say I wouldn’t appreciate havin’ morgan around right now. Or at least her dropship. This walking thing’s getting really old, fast!”

“Hey! How do you think I feel!” Hania added, jumping up to her feet and pointing to her toes. “I’m freezin’ my little halfling feet off here! You in particular, mister heated suit!” Hania exclaimed, pointing at the firebat.

Jack Frost just scratched at the back of his helmet nervously. “Alright, alright… point taken.”

At this point, green, lanky feet trudged back into the welcoming light of the fire, showing Zul’kis’s - frankly, slightly scary visage. “I searched da perimeter. No tracks, no smoke signals. Nothing. If one of da Tribes knows we’re here, dey keeping that to themselves. We good for the night.” Zul’kis grumbled with a sour look across his tusks. “We be keepin’ close to eachother tomorrow, doe. Dis Wampa land. Found a couple o’ dem white caribou ‘round dese parts. Half-eaten. We got at least… mebbe, five or six?” Zul’kis added. “Lucky dey sleep at night.”

Hania nodded. If they’d lit a fire in wampa territory during the day, there’d only be two outcomes: They’d have Wampa Meat, or they’d be a Wampa’s meat. Given how gross Wampa meat was, she wouldn’t look forward to that ration rotation.

“Got it. So, stick close, sleep well, and enjoy the night sky.” Hania added.

“Yeah, that be pretty much it.” Zul’kis replied after a moment. Then, after a couple seconds of standing, he sat down in the snow, letting his legs hang wide. “Charsi, ‘tink you can bring a beer over here, brudda? I need somethin’ to take da edge off.”

Charsi just grinned. “You got it, chief!”

Hania smiled. Looking around, she saw a solid group of friends, a team she could rely on to make this happen!. No Camelot, no Coruscant, just… freedom, good times, and hard work to make ‘em matter.

She knew it wasn’t going to be that easy, of course, but it was okay to pretend for at least one night, right?

[Her Story]

Promise walked back to her housing unit in the walls of the station, headphones blasting her favorite band into her head and completely cutting her off from the rest of the piece of shit verse. In her peripheral vision, she could make out plenty of people milling about around her like background character’s in a music video. They hardly seemed to notice her, never turning to look at her as she continued on with her day. Promise was fairly normal. She was just a girl with dark brown hair and bright blue eyes, caucasian, about five-five, and just turned twenty-one. She wasn't exactly a normal person though. That was for another time.

Her favorite colors were purple, blue, green and black. She was wearing a purple tank top, black pants, and a grey hoodie with a skull design on the back. Her dark long hair was in a french braid and hung over her shoulder. She wore black and silver headphones that covered her entire ears which she cherished if only because it was easier to block out everyone with them.

Promise had a serious problem with people; she didn’t like them. Almost everyone she has come into contact with has done her wrong in some way, and eventually, she gave up on finding anyone to be friends with. It was a waste of her time and effort to get close to anyone anymore.

Only this would become the root of her problems because it seemed to attract even more people to her! Something about a loner always made people want to be a part of their desert island world. This served a single purpose in life and that was to piss her off even more.

She reached into the black studded messenger-style bag that hung on her shoulder and went to go dig out her key. When she doesn't find it immediately she frowned out of frustration and pulled the bag closer to search harder! Normally this wouldn’t get to her, but there was a limit to how many minor inconveniences a girl could endure for one day.

Behind her, the world was becoming a little grimmer.

A pack of real zombies was attacking a small group of people a few blocks away. A crowd watched some in awe at the brutality, some in shock, most of them thought it was just an act, and even if it were impressive most of them acted like it wasn't.

Everyone has heard of zombies and everyone thought they were just something out of a sci-fi comic but wasn't that the same thing said about space travel? When the zombies had devoured the small group of kids, who had been screaming and freaking out the whole time, the living cadavers turn to take their clapping audience! Suddenly it is apparent that this wasn't entertainment thought up by some governmental official, it was real. The crowd quickly started to dilute, running in all sorts of direction, trying desperately to get to some safety, and soon the zombies were spreading out and taking big bites out of society.

Finally!

Promise found her key card! She slides the black strip on the back through the card reader mounted beside her door before cursing that the damn lock wasn’t working. Again. She sighed loudly before she swiped it again. As the door beeped and flashed a red light, forcing her to groan in added frustration, a deadly figure took noticed and began to limp over to her. It raised its arms towards her and just as it was close enough to lunge the door dinged instead and slid open; Allowing her to step in undisturbed other than a bit peeved her card was acting like it needed to be replaced.

As for the zombie whose intestines were dragging behind it, before it could catch its next meal the automatic door slammed shut. He smacked against the door, well more bounced, the room behind it was filled with a hollow metallic ‘thump’ before going silent once more. The creature of horror stumbled back due to such a force acting upon its movement. It means to attack the door once more, but the sound of a woman in the distance screaming alerted it to the action around it. It shuffled away

Promise also had five pets. She didn’t like people, but she liked animals. Funny given her profession.

She went through the ritual of unloading her stuff on the table while she still listened to her favorite band, tossing her key card on the table and grabbing the can of food flakes for her fish. There were three fish in the single tank, a cleaner and a two bizarre alien looking ones with bulging eyes and neon colors. She twisted the top of her can so there were holes at the top and then shook it over the water. She watched the two fight over the flakes which went from a solid flake to a sheet of edible fabric. What wasn’t hungrily devoured by the two main ones floated to the stained yellow rocks at the bottom of the tank. She had always wondered if they did that on purpose...

Promise made a note to clean the aquarium on her next day off.

She also had a black and white sheepdog who was locked up in his own room and a white rat that was probably sleeping in her edible log. Next on her daily routine was to cook herself something. [Nothing like zombies to make a girl hungry..]

She doesn't bother to take off her headphones, she had no family to deal with after work nor did she have any roommate. She decided to skip the oven and put some tuna fish on some bread and eat it instead. When she was done with her food she is ready to play with Max.

In the little time that she took to eat, the undead terrorist had taken care of any person on the streets, a few had made it back into their homes or other forms of safety. So when Hope finally pulled the headphones off she couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary, except Max who was barking and scratching away at the door where he’d been left.

Feeling bad despite how much she spoiled him, Promise headed up the staircase and opened the door. As soon as she did Max bolted out and down the stairs. A moment later he came back up as fast as a four-legged buddy could and jumped his owner. She laughed at his silly display and began to pet him all over his fur covered body. "Good boy!" She exclaimed. You’d never catch her dead this excited to see a human.

A few hours later, after supper, Max is to be taken for a walk, but that day was different.

When Promise opened the door and stepped out she was met with a horrible sight fit for the goriest of movies!! Bodies everywhere! She went into shock almost instantly, so much that Max was able to jerk free from her grip and ran off. She was so stunned she hadn’t even noticed. Promise was left staring at the sea of bodies.

Had cutting herself away from the world caused her to miss some crazy event?

She took a few heavy steps towards a small boys body that laid lifeless on the ground, kneeling down to look it over. There were vicious wounds along his frail shoulders and neck, but the strangest part is they looked like bite marks! Her fingers start to tremble as she goes to touch the body; Cold...

Suddenly something pulsed against the tip of her finger and in an instant the boy jumped up in a sitting position! There was a second of pure awe as he gasped in lungs full of air. The next second it screamed an inhuman screech that frightened Promise into falling back on her tailbone. She clasped her hands over her ears and endured what she couldn’t block out. When it was done she was left breathing erratically. Her chest pumped up and down with air as she began to panic.

At the edge of her vision, she saw more movement. The blurry shadow was first a formless figure, and then a man. Her neighbor. He was already coming at her with this dead look on his face mouth opened as wide as the gaping holes in his neck and chest. She could only hear her heart beating faster and faster in her ears, she was numb to everything else. However, Promise managed to get back to her feet.

In her escape, she backed into another corpse and jumped with a shrill and short terrified scream. She turned, covering her mouth to contain her fear, and saw several undead rose. She turned left and right so many times that her head spun, quickly losing count of the bodies. Her anxiety builds to crippling levels and had it not for one thing she may have quickly become the next victim. Her mind snapped to full attention upon hearing her dog’s barking. Promise rushed past the unholy creatures and back to her door. Max’s barking both alerted and attracted them, and she suddenly understood what these things were; She did everything she could to comprehend that fact though.

Promise slammed her body against her own door and ripped at her clothing as she struggled to find her key card once more, her hands trembled as she internally screamed. 'Oh fuck, oh fuck!' He unsteady hands fought to swipe the card, its red light flashed and declined her access to her own home. Desperate she began to bang on the metal door, tears streamed down her face as she could only hear the loud the moans of the undead. The sounds were haunting and if she wasn't in danger she'd have admired them for the horror sounds that they were! Max’s barking sounded right into her ear, he was beside her even now in her final hour - of which was the only sound that could successfully drown out her panicked heart as she felt the fingertips begin to find purchase on her shirt.

Having already begun to give up, letting the gravity of the situation drag her down the front of the door. Defeat bubbled inside of her and began to consume her and she began to cry loudly.

She never even heard the cock of the gun. By the time she heard gunshots echo through the enclosed space and Promise’s head. Her crying stopped in an instant and blood rained down on her. She looked up at where a head used to be, the body crumpled and gave her a promising view of her hero as he turned to gun down several other people she had only barely known.

"Remind me again," Beltway's voice shouted over the noise of wind and sound of snow crunching and sliding underfoot and under-ski, "WHY we're out here tramping through Satan's freezer?" The normally boisterous and jovial giant was lacking severely in his usual good mood. "And for that matter, why the living fuck we're traveling like this?"

"Ah, come on, ya big lug!" The voice of their resident lookout was almost frustratingly chipper, from his perch overhead. "It's a novelty. Nothing wrong with finding new ways to travel, eh?" The green glow of his goggles stood out starkly even through the swirling masses of white flakes and off-white powder that whipped in front of his face as he looked down. "Captain wanted us to try not to stand out too much, so this was what we got."

"Yeah. Wanted us to not stand out. And yet look at what he sent that fucker HUNK out with." The not so gentle giant pounded a fist on the railing of the sled. "God damn attack chopper!"

"That would be because of the reputation of that man." From where she sat at the reins, the team's medic was the calmest of the group. "Where Mister Death goes, his namesake always follows close behind. He will likely need the extra firepower."

"FUCK OFF WITH YOUR LOGIC, SCHNEIDER!" Beltway hollered, turning away and dropping into a sulking, mumbled string of vehement cursing in Spanish.

"Yep, that's why we love ya, big guy," Spectre chortled. "Big guns, big mouth, big temper." He dodged a wild swing from the lumbering behemoth of a man, earning a harsh "SHADDUP, BODROVSKI!" and yet more disgruntled chatter. "Besides, look on the bright side, champ. Weather's nice at least."

"Nice." Beltway turned to look out over the landscape in their direction of travel. Beyond the team of dogs which pulled the damn sled -- if it could even be called that; the damn dogs looked (and smelled, dear god) like something that crawled out of Raccoon City and grew their fur back, and the fucking sled was almost the size of a car (so much for their low profile) -- there was nothing to see except snow, snow, piles of snow, a frozen lake, and more fucking snow. "You call this shit 'nice' weather?"

"It could be a blizzard," Bertha put in rather bluntly. "Or complete whiteout conditions. All things considered, this is relatively mild."

"Yeah, it is snowin' pretty nice," Spectre mused. "But could be a hell of a lot worse."

"What the piss ever," Beltway just gave up on that one before it got started. "I'm gonna hibernate or something. Wake me up when there's something actually entertaining going on." And he just rolled over onto his side.

"Yep. That's why you make the big bucks, big guy." Mask or not, the roll in Spectre's eyes was impossible to miss. "Still. At this rate, your nap won't be too long, buddy." He brought up his wristcomp, tapping a few keys on it and watching the data scroll by before pulling up the dataverse connection. Navigating and poking through, he pulled up the message that had caught his attention on their way here. "Coordinates given in this message say we should be reaching the site of this place in about, oh....an hour, maybe two if we hit a blizzard on the way."

"Hit a blizzard on the way." Bertha's tone was flat and unamused, the disbelief and incredulity nearly slapping the Russian in the face as she glanced back at him. "That would be highly unlikely."

"Yeah. On Earth, maybe. But we ain't on Earth." Spectre just shrugged. "You saw the Captain. Summoned us from balls of sparkly rainbow stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if Jesus swam up out of the snow and it started raining wine-blooded frogs. A blizzard dropping out of nowhere seems pretty normal compared to that."

"You have been exposed to far too much fantasy and many ridiculous ideas," the German snapped, turning back front. "This place is different, but its rules are not that abstract and ridiculous."

"I'll bet ya fifty bucks. We run into something '[i]that abstract and ridiculous' before this scouting operation is over!" Spectre chimed without missing a beat.

Bertha just scoffed. "If we run into something half as ludicrous as your second coming of Christ, I'll hand over double that amount."

The lookout man just let out a whoop and a laugh at that. "Hell yeah. Piles of worthless cash. Score!" he joked, before leaning forward to look down at their explosives expert. "What about you, pal? Want in on this bet?"

Beltway snored in response.

“So, we’re now making an alliance with Amber and the others, and we aim to have the trolls and dwarves become involved in it”, said Oki. It had been about twenty minutes now since they had left Fort Amber. Or the growing town of Atlas, rather.

“Exactly. The only trolls we ran into were in the mids of a fight against dwarves… and you and I know that war can make decent person into a monster. Bloodlust, trauma, fear, the loss of comrades and many others can warp an individual, so our first impression of them was very disfavorable. According to the dwarves they’re a fight-happy group but in this world everyone is. We should give them a proper chance.”

“What’s to say that they will not just attempt to fight us over the lands that we want to take?”

“They might. We will have to prepare for that… the same goes for the dwarves, though. What’s to say that their greed won’t get the better of them and cause them to betray us over whatever resources we unearth? The same may go for Amber’s newly found red Dust, by the way… it’s a valuable resource that many may be interested in.”

“Ye know I’m right ‘ere, don’t you?” grumbled Urist. “It ain’t very nice to voice yer mistrust of a group yer befriended with, in front of one o’ ‘em, Ammy.”

“I’m aware, Urist”, said Amaterasu. “And I was not meaning to say that it will happen. I was merely hinting that it is a possibility… moreso for Amber than for us, since she is not befriended with the dwarves.”

“Aye, but the Fort is turning into a fairly profitable location fer dwarven merchants. It’d be bad if the outpost got destroyed.”

“They could just take it”, Fiara pointed out. “But for now it’s more beneficial to let Amber keep things though, and to keep a good relationship with her since she maintains the outpost and doesn’t impose a tax or anything, so I imagine that she’s okay for now.”

With that the matter was concluded and not spoken of again. Silence fell over the Nimbus, and eventually the four of them each sat facing a cardinal direction to keep an eye out for threats and dangers and thinking about their own matters. Like this, hours passed. Only when the sun began to set did they stop.

“This feels familiar”, remarked Oki as they sat down. Fiara and Urist had produced some dried foodstuffs from their backpacks and Amaterasu had made a campfire with summoned logs and a torch, to keep them warm and heat some water for drinking. “It’s not even been that long since the expedition but it feels like ages ago.”

“Aye”, agreed Urist. “It’s almost nostalgic. Although, ah’m lookin’ forward ta a good pint o’ ale an’ a proper bed after all that adventurin’. At least fer one or two nights.”

“Don’t worry, Urist. Once we build Hoshi you will have a perfect opportunity to sleep”, said Amaterasu.

“Since when do we know that our outpost will be named Hoshi?” asked Fiara with a frown.

“Wha’s Hoshi mean?” Urist asked before Amaterasu could answer.

“Hoshi means star. And like a beacon star in the sky that lights the path to lost travelers we will be a beacon of light in the Frozen Fields to help those who wish for it.”

“Tha’s symbolic… bu’ ah don’ think that the dwarves an’ trolls need any guidance or help.”

Amaterasu grinned. “Of course, that’s what they think… but what if I told you that I have ideas? With Amber’s help we can create something that everyone traversing these treacherous lands will need. Let’s see… we had a fairly safe, snowstorm-free day, didn’t we. And even so we have been traveling for hours, and yet we are far from our destination.”

“Aye…”

“What if there was a way to skip that journey entirely, in exchange of a small fee?”

“Ye don’ mean…”

“Yes. In my homeland of Nippon there were mirrors, called Origin Mirrors, which are imbued with magical properties. You can warp from one to another if you know how. All it requires is that one steps into the light reflected by an Origin Mirror and cast a secret Celestial Brush technique of Kasugami, the Celestial Brush Kami of the Veil of Mist technique. It should be an easy matter to imbue a piece of parchment with the secret technique so that it can be used by anyone, not just me. And if we make the Origin Mirrors big enough, it would also be possible to warp large items. Like say, carriages.”

Urist stroked his beard. “If tha’ worked out… ye could transport goods an’ people across the Fields without ever settin’ foot into the dangerous areas. Ye could skip tha treacherous thin ice crusts, tha snow-covered fissures… ye’d save on supplies fer the drivers an’ pack animals… it’d be a fortune. It’s simple, bu’ a genius stroke.”

“Thank you! In any case, it would create an incentive to visit our city, at least until others copy our concept, but by that point I hope to have established a presence and branched out to other industries too. But for this plan to work, we need to be somewhere accessible, where merchants would be able to come to easily and from where they would be able to reach Zul’gurand and Dwarfholm to sell their wares. Somewhere central, between the two areas.”

“Aye, bu’ the center o’ the Fields is formed by the mountains tha’ eventually turn into the Roof o’ the World.”

“That’s why we are not at the perfect location. We will be somewhat closer to the Nexus Gate than in the dead center of the Fields. There is a large plain that we passed, that would be well suited.”

“Ye know o’ such a place? We’ve been travelin’ fer days once we got outta Dwarfholm. How’d ye remember?”

“Oki, you know what I speak of, don’t you? I think you would be able to explain it better than me.”

“Yes… I do.” The warrior turned a bit in his seat and faced Urist. “Allow me to explain what Amaterasu refers to: the land we come from, Nippon, is an island of limited size, but with a large population. It is rare to find uninhabited land suitable for living, agriculture and such. As a result I suppose that our people have a sense for that type of place ingrained in our senses. Sort of like you have it in your blood to see where to best swing your pick when mining.”

The dwarf stroked his beard again, as he always did when thinking. “And yer sure ye remember where that plain is?”

“Absolutely. You see…” Amaterasu drew a circle into the snow, and a dot in the middle. Then she drew a small dot on the bottom of the circle, and one on its left end. “Here, closest to me, is Dwarfholm. Over there, on my left, is the Nexus Gate. When we departed for the Void Gate, we took a large detour… in the shape of an F, I guess. We moved slightly towards the Nexus Gate, like so… to circumvent the mountain range here. Then we turned away from the Nexus Gate at a sharp angle to the right, to reach the perimeter of the Roof of the World.”

“And?”

“And, that means that our journey to the plain, located very close to where we cut that angle, will be shorter from Fort Amber than it was from Dwarfholm. I estimate that we will be arriving there tomorrow in the afternoon.”

“Will such a short journey be enough to make merchants pay for the Warping?” intervened Fiara.

“You’re forgetting that we are moving very fast… merchants move slower due to their cargo, which means more days spent out. And even then, the minutes that they save rack up very quickly.” She drew a line from the dot representing Dwarfholm, to the Nexus Gate dot. “This journey would take, let’s say three days. If they come to Hoshi - “ she drew another, much shorter line - “let’s say it takes one day. Warping is instant. Another half day to the Nexus Gate from Fort Amber, one and a half days. In two directions, this saves them three days every time they do the trip. Three trips makes for nine saved days, ten trips is thirty… you get my point. They’ll readily pay up a fair amount considering how much they save, and that money can go towards improving our infrastructure and attracting more settlers.”

“Which increases the risk that one side will try to monopolize this advantage, by removing us from the equation”, remarked Oki sinisterly.

“Yes… but that is a risk we have to take.” Then she took a bite of the dried meat and they switched to a different subject. Some two hours later they each went into their tent to sleep as the sun set and the cold Frozen Fields were covered in even colder night. Fiara and Urist were the first to go, with Amaterasu and Oki staying behind until the fire went out. Just as the former prepared to go however, Oki held her back.

“You’re glowing”, he remarked with a serious tone. “Have you noticed?”

“Glowing? Oh, yes… I’ve noticed, but I have no idea where it’s coming from. It’s been there for a while but it keeps getting stronger.” She scritched her skin. In daylight, especially in an environment as bright as the Frozen Fields, it wasn’t noticeable, but now at night it was more appearant. The glow was seemingly coming from within her, a multicolored light of unknown origin.

“Do you think it’s a disease or something?”

“I don’t think so, I wouldn’t have any idea what sort of disease that could be.”

“Does it itch? I noticed you scratching yourself.”

“A little. But that’s more the Frozen Fields’ temperature shifts, I believe. Don’t worry about it, Oki. If I feel sick, I will be sure to let you all know, and seek aid.”

“Alright… just be careful, you’re our lifeline out here and I’d never forgive myself if you died because of my neglect to watch over you.”

“Thank you Oki, but I believe it to be the other way around… the kami watch over mankind.”

“That’s true”, said Oki and smiled. “But what about monks and shrine guardians who keep shrines and temples in good repair?”

“Our power is not bound to a building or a place of worship”, the kami explained and laughed as she slid into the tent. She carefully placed the Wover Tear, her most treasured possession, into her backpack and used that as a pillow, so nobody could steal it without waking her. The unseeming black orb was held in a leather bag lined with silk on the inside, to conceal it from prying eyes, and even then she was very careful with it. As she finished the preparations to sleep, she explained: “These places are kept in a good state to prove that mankind has not forgotten about us, that they know their place and that they continue to seek our favour and goodwill. But let us have this discussion another day. I feel tired from a long day, and I need to sleep before I explode of giddiness… giddiness at building the city of light.”

Explode. It was a strangely fitting word for the events that were to come in the following day.

But let us have this discussion another day. I feel tired from a long day, and I need to sleep before I explode of giddiness… giddiness at building the city of light.”
Explode. It was a strangely fitting word for the events that were to come in the following day.

Skeletor wandered through the frozen wilderness with a bitterness festering in his heart. The parting with Wiess had been long overdue, as the girl still clung to a notion of heroics despite the darkness that was clearly growing within her. Perhaps in a few more years, she would be more willing to join his kingdom. For now, the heavily wounded prime needed a place to lay low, a lair from which to plan his next attack against Nebula. That idiot doctor had not yet found the main lair from which Nebula was orchestrating these attacks, and until such a time, Skeletor felt no compulsion to further risk his own neck. He needed minions, spies and pawns that he could send to do these things FOR HIM. What a sorry state he was in if he needed to fend for himself in this strange world.

These dark thoughts hovered over his brooding as Panthor trudged through the snow, too grumpy to do more than sullenly march on. The snowstorm was as strong as ever, and to the travelers’ dismay it seemed to be getting only more powerful as they travelled farther into the verse. Skeletor scowled up at the weather. In Eternia, this paltry snowstorm would be a simple trifle to banish, or at least to mold around himself without obstructing his travel. Yet here in this accursed prison he could not be so frivolous with his power.

Through the blinding snowstorm, Skeletor thought he could spy the crumbled remains of some delapidated structure, a shelter from the storm if nothing else. As he and Panthor drew closer it became clear that this ruin was part of a larger collection, indeed a veritable city that had been claimed by the snow. Skeletor dismounted, but didn’t use enough care while doing so, and his leg nearly buckled as a jolt of pain shot up his leg. The Warlock grimaced, “That nimrod Nebula will pay for this!” he muttered to himself slamming a fist against the nearby wall. The action dislodged a buildup of snow from the roof which swamped the injured prime, and caused Panthor to leap away in surprise.

“Blasted SNOW! I will not be made a mockery!” Skeletor fumed, purposelessly. This was why he never chanced real injury if he could help it. The rightful ruler of Eternia needed rest, he needed a chance for his wounds to mend. Even a prime’s advanced healing wouldn’t be enough after the beating he had taken in saving this wretched flurry-infested verse. But getting that rest would require him to abandon his revenge, halt his schemes, wait for time to pass him idly. He-man and the Masters of the Universe thought him a coward for fleeing conflicts as quickly as he did. In truth Skeletor simply had better things to do than deal with the aftermath of a mistake.

The warlock struggled inside of the most intact building he could find, and paused, noting the very intact campsite that he had stumbled into, its inhabitants seemed tribal, and it looked like all five of them were away at the moment. In that snowstorm, he could probably have been within striking distance and not even have known they were there. The fireplace’s embers were still warm, and it was only a simple spell for Skeletor to reignite the blaze. Panthor lumbered into the building after him, squeezing through the doorway and immediately settling next to the fire, completely unconcerned with any new scents she could detect.

Skeletor also elected not to concern himself with the owners of the camp, confident that if it came to blows they would know his power. He sat near the fire, and with no better recourse to divert his attention began fiddling with his scanner. He had accepted the item from Dr. Regal with barely more than a moment’s thought, quite sure that the Imperial scientist had been concerned only with securing the safety of the world. Now that he stopped to think about it, there had been little to no questioning to his intentions with the devices, especially given that there had been mention of the power that the scanners could contain. His own stolen power seemed to be nearly gone, expended to destroy the villains of Nebula. And he hadn’t gotten any more out of it! The mistake continued to gnaw at Skeletor, as he sat by the fire. Panthor had fallen asleep, now snoring quite lazily in the flame’s glow. But Skeletor’s mind was in tumult, so deeply emmeshed that he almost didn’t realize that the camp’s owners had returned. Skeletor rose to his feet, wincing as imperceptibly as possible. Four hunched figures with large tusks and even more prominent mohawks had entered the building, spears in hand, and a large creature that Skeletor didn’t recognize hanging from a pole between two of them. Their largest, whom Skeletor expected was the leader took a step towards him.

Erik passed through the gate into the frozen fields. It was the first time he had been to the fields, and as he breathed in the cold air he knew he had come to the right place. He missed his mountain home dearly, and the tundra was the next best thing. The sky was hidden behind dark clouds, and snow drifted lightly to the ground in a light blanket. The horizon was also clouded by a thin mist, obscuring he horizon. Erik urged his horse forward excitedly, which responded apprehensively. It was obviously not as attuned to the cold as Erik himself was.

As the horse trotted forward, Erik wondered how to get to Dwarfholm. Although it was one of the major cities in the region, it wasn't exactly announcing its presence. Erik decided that finding one of the smaller dwarf villages and going from there would be more reliable than blindly searching for the capital. His horse reluctantly sped up at Erik's urging, not pleased by the chill. After traveling for some time, Erik saw a small group of lights in the distant fog. He approached them slowly, not wanting to startle the source. A small group of short humanoids came into view. 'Dwarves!' Erik thought to himself, a small smile unconsciously crossing his face.

The foremost dwarf signalled for the others to stop, and called to Erik. "Who goes there?" Despite his size, his voice was quite deep, with a noticeable accent. There were five dwarves in all, each of which wore a heavy coat to keep the snow off and had their long beards tied in a tight knot. They also had various weapons strapped to their belts, ranging from swords to axes to a crossbow on one dwarf's back. Two dwarves had deer held over their shoulders, obviously killed on a recent hunt. "Greetings." Erik called back. "My name is Erik Vrell. I'm looking for directions to Dwarfholm." The leader eyed him suspiciously. "Forgive me, but what business do you have with Dwarfholm?"

Erik paused for a moment, considering his wording. "I admire the dwarves skills in smithing and fighting, and their love for drink." Erik said. "I was hoping to become a dwarf friend and gain entrance to their halls." The lead dwarf inspected him for a few tense moments, before nodding, apparently satisfied with that answer. "Forgive me, Erik, was it? We can't be too careful with those darkling folk around. They don't hide their love for Nebula, though, so I trust you. My name is Davras, and I'm the leader of this hunting expedition."

Erik dismounted his horse, and reached out to shake the dwarf's hand. "Pleased to meet you, Davras." Erik said, suppressing a grin. He had heard stories of dwarves even before coming to the Omniverse, but this was his first encounter with one. Davras motioned for Erik to keep moving. "Come on then, we'll take you to Dwarfholm where you can meet someone who'll tell you what to do. We have to get moving before it gets dark, though." Erik looked at the dwarf with a puzzled expression. "Is Dwarfholm that far away? It looks like it's still bright out through the clouds." Davras chuckled, as if a child had just asked him a question with a painfully obvious answer. "Oh ho, lad, you haven't been to the fields before my have ya?" Erik shook his head, feeling as if he was missing something. "It can turn from day to dark in a matter of minutes. We're running out of daylight quick, too, so if we're not hasty you'll get to see it yourself."

Concerned, Erik simply nodded and moved to follow the dwarf's lead, leading his horse by the reigns rather than riding the already unhappy animal. The hunting party set off at a steady pace, easily moving at the same pace as Erik, despite being almost half his size. The dwarves behind Erik talked amongst themselves occasionally, but mostly kept to themselves. "So, Erik." Davras began, breaking the silence. "You said you admire our skills in smithing?" Erik nodded vigorously. "I hear dwarves works are the best in the world." The dwarf laughed at the comment. "Well, whoever told you is right. This may sound facetious, but you really won't find much better craft. So, do you have experience in smithing?"

Erik nodded again, and drew Mageslayer partially from its sheath. "I made this blade myself on my 18th birthday. It took me some time to learn, but I got it right eventually." Davras eyed the blade curiously for a moment. "Hmm. May I?" The dwarf said as he extended his arms, motioning for Erik to give him the sword if he wished. Erik obliged, and handed the blade to the dwarf. Davras hummed as he peered at the blade and turned it over in his hands. "For a human such as yourself, this is fine craftsmanship." He said finally, handing the sword back to Erik. "It's not perfect, though. There's always room to improve." Erik nodded silently, not sure whether he was pleased or upset with the analysis.

The remainder of the journey continued quietly, before they came to a gate built into a large cave opening, which was guarded by a pair of dwarves clad in full armour. "Who goes there?" One of the guards cried. "Davras, son of Darvok. We have returned from our hunt with a guest." The guards eyed Erik with the same suspicion Davras first had, but nodded and let them pass. As the doors opened and Erik stepped inside, he was struck by the temperature difference of the cavern. It was warm inside, almost hot. Erik was escorted by the hunting party through the tunnel, until it opened into a larger area where dwarves of all kinds went about their duties. Buildings populated this area, forming a whole city in the cavern.

In the centre of the cavern lay a vast, shining building. "What is that?" Erik asked breathlessly. "Mithril hall." Davras replied. "She's beautiful, isn't she?" Erik nodded in wonder, moving to follow the dwarf before being stopped. "This is where we part ways for now." Davras said. "Wait here, I'll arrange for someone to come guide you." Erik nodded once more, a little sad that his new friend was leaving so soon. "Good luck, lad." Davras said with a grin as he left.

Erik waited in the busy square for a while before a spectacled dwarf approached him. "Are you Erik?" He asked. "Indeed I am." The psychic replied, having gotten over his awe at the magnitude of the city. "Please, follow me." The dwarf said. "I work for the Mithril hall, and it's my job to set the conditions of your entry." The dwarf led Erik through the city to a building near Mithril hall. "Watch your head." The dwarf said as he unlocked the door and entered, followed by a slightly stooped over Erik. Fortunately, the room seemed to be designed for bigger folk so he didn't have to duck his heas to avoid hitting the roof.

"Now, for you to prove your dedication to the Mithril hall I'm going to have to ask you to do some... small jobs. The first job is to go into the mines and extract some cobalt. Our supplies are running low, and we're having to dig deeper and deeper to find it so an extra hand is always appreciated." Erik nodded. "Sounds simple enough. Is there anything else I need to know?" The dwarf considered the question for a moment. "Well... When you get about one hundred metres into the mines, you'll come to a fork. You may have more luck finding cobalt on the left fork, because it's been mined less." Erik nodded enthusiastically, and left the building without considering why it had been mined less.

The heat of the lower levels subsided behind the faunus with each set of stairs she climbed. Warm air wasn't her favorite, though, she preferred the chilling cold of the Frozen Fields just like Atlas back home. The air was crisp and harsh to the skin. She used to believe the frozen air was the reason she became so resilient to harsh weather and toughen her warrior spirit.

When she reached the surface, she took a deep breath of that air in and let all sink in. The smells of white hot irons from blacksmiths and fresh foods like bread and meats filled her nostrils. Amber gazed upon the kingdom she had come to unite in the frozen wastes many considered inhospitable, besides trolls, dwarves and dragons, and smiled contently with the progress. It had come to her attention, however, that sourcing power out here could be difficult, even for a Prime of her stature. As much as she would love to just snap her fingers and lights poof to existence, that seemed more draining than she thought. Those lights would still need to be powered, and the furthest their power source reached was the bar and the security door at the wall.

The faunus sighed to herself. She would likely have to get stronger before she decided to power and entire city by herself. Her train of thought was interrupted by a woman running through the dirt/snowed streets of Atlas flailing her arms for the cat girl's attention.

“Amber! Hey!” She yelled, waving her arms back and forth. Many civilians giving her bewildering glares as she does so. When she finally caught up to the faunus, she had to catch her breath before she could speak. Her face and hair was covered in dirt, as if she had showered in clumped mud. Her clothing easily signified her as one of the Atlas miners.

“Uh, hi?” Amber muttered confusedly. “Do I know you?”

“No.” The woman said gasping for relief. “But, sure do know you. You run the show here, and there's a big problem.”

“What is it?! Trolls? Giants? Oh shit, did the dragons come after me to avenge Votamiks?” Amber said reaching back for the giant sword holstered to her backside.

“No, no, and no, but our miners are in big trouble. We found a gem like nothing I’d ever seen before and when we tried to mine it out of the ore, BOOM!” The dirt covered woman shouted. “The damn thing exploded and trapped our miners in a cave in. At least ten good men are stuck in the cave now.”

“Y-You found Dust? In the Omniverse?” The cat asked surprisingly. She never expected to find a pure source of Dust anywhere but Remnant. It was practically unbelievable, which made her think that perhaps this was merely a joke to gawk at her inability to return home.

“Yeah, there’s a whole lot of it in caves, you know?” The miner said, obviously oblivious to the term ‘Dust’ as compared to that of a native of Remnant. “It’s sort of the thing for caves.”

“No! Dust! As in a physical material used as power sources and focuses for magical powers?! You're telling me a crystal like substance exploded and caused a cave in around your workers? What did it look like?” She asked putting her sword hand back down at her side and finding it’s way to cross at her chest.

“Well,” The miner attempted to recall the details. “It was red. Looked nothing like ruby or garnet, though, even if it was uncut. I'd say it was like a rock, but had a faint shine to it like glass.”

“That is dust! Take me there now! This is more important than you could possibly imagine!” The faunus shouted frantically.

“The miners are st-”

“Yeah, we’ll free the miners and then you’ll show me these crystals.” Amber interrupted, getting a nod in response. She pulled out her scroll and called up Murasaki.

’Yo.’ His voice scratched through faint static.

“‘Saki, I think our miners just found Dust.” She said without even a proper hello.

’Wait, Remnant Dust? There’s Dust in the Omniverse, unrefined?’ He asked.

“I was just as confused as you are. I'm going to investigate this right now, if this real, this could be a turning point for Atlas. We would be able to filter a stronger source of power with lightning Dust.” She explained through frantic heaving as the miner lead her through the snow capes towards their primary mining operation.

Upon arrival, Amber knew they had found Dust. She could smell the blazing crystal fragrance in the air, like singed hair. The horrid aroma brought her back nostalgically. It made her feel even more at home in the frozen wasteland she had to make due with. The miner, on the other hand, grew a disgusted expression to the smell and urged Amber into the cave. The smell only intensified upon entering the dark mountain crevice.

The only light available were some torches until the got deeper into the tunnel system. Rocks had fallen from the ceiling and disturbed the dirt around them. Any torches that were lit before the incident were gone now.

“It’s just up here.” Said her travel companion. She could see it: The mound of dirt and rocks that had obviously fallen from a disrupted patch in the caves dirt-roof. Getting through such a wall would not be easy but Amber was anything but a quitter.

The heat of the lower levels subsided behind the faunus with each set of stairs she climbed. Warm air wasn't her favorite, though, she preferred the chilling cold of the Frozen Fields just like Atlas back home. The air was crisp and harsh to the skin.
The Frozen Fields didn't get a whole lot of traffic. It was inherently uncomfortable and dangerous to travel in, so tourists tended to avoid the verse. The only people who traversed through the icy regions of the Frozen Fields were people who lived there, or had a purpose there. It wasn't exactly a prime spot for anyone to put down a hotel or a ski lodge. But there it was, and had been for years: The Arctica Inn and Lounge. A tall manor on top of one of the smaller mountains of the clustered center of the chilly verse, the Arctica had to be reached via a ski lift at the base of the mountain. The mountain was at the exterior of the Roof of the World, the verse's dangerous range of mountains, which made the inn a popular place for would-be daredevils. But the large manor was still visible far beyond it, which did attract the odd traveler or two.

It was historically run-down and ill-maintained due to the lack of staff and activity. But it did not look like that today. Today it just as beautiful as it was the day it had been summoned into the Omniverse.

At the tippy top of the slope sat the manor, sparkling and fresh. The sign above the big double doors read its name in sparkling dark blue letters: Arctica Inn and Lounge. Down the path leading from the ski lift to the manor itself was a single covered figure. It was cloaked in black, seemingly covering up from the cold climate. They had just finished planting a big sign in the snow next to the cleared passage that read 'Welcome to Arctica! GRAND RE-OPENING!' The figure nodded to itself in self-approval, rubbing their together to get the snow off of their gloves.

The moved their dataverse device on their wrist in front of them and clicked a button. "Time to get the word out," they said, "And get to work."
The story will start proper on Sunday, October 15th.

When you are good and ready to post your intro roleplay, just have your character arrive at the Arctica Inn. They will take a ski lift up to the grounds themselves, and once inside they will be greeted to a lobby and a bubbly blonde receptionist named Megan, who will check them in.
Gaaaaah what a motherfucking day, dude. I'm all freezy and worn out and shit. That death show thing was stressful as fuck. Almost bit it. Again. But alaaaaatsh, that blissful sun is sitting hiiiiiigh up in the sky, sharin' its warmth with the world. Feels good man, out here in the Frozen Fields. I summoned up a wicked looking hoodie with some soft fur lining the insides. A whimsical swirly purple smoke design covers the back and chest, and I swapped up my ripped jeans for some old school polka dot pj's.

I'm cozy as fuck, bro.

I'm just chillin, checking out some stuff on the dataverse. Waiting for Straaaawwwwso. Lil angry dude sure does take his motherfuckin' time. Hope Karkat doesn't mind though. Have they met? I don't think them dudes have met. Hm... yeah that is gonna be one interestin' thing that happens. Worried that maybe KK has been a wee bit lonely off in Jade's tower, like some kinda Rapunzel and shit. Don't even know how long he's been up there, ain't no telling where this human girl went off to and how long ago. Just downright ignoring the responsibility of taking care of a Karkat. I don't think she's all up and ready for that responsibilitay.

"Gamzee!"

Whazzat?

"Whuzzat?"

"Quit daydreaming. Let's get a move on, your friend is waiting for you right?"

"Ahaha! Whazzap, buddy bro of mine? How ya feeling? Did you die? You dead? Are you dead!? Oh. My. God. You're dead ain't cha? You a ghost? You like my motherfucking spirit animal or some shi-"

"Gamzee," my best human friendo says with a wry smile and a shake of the head, "I'm not dead, dumbass. I'm right here. Very physical, very alive. And nah, those fuckers never caught me after they singled you out. What about you? You aight? Not dead?"

"Nah, brother," I snicker, returning his smile with a cheeky grin of my own, "I got some tricks up my sleeve. Did get my ass beat though."

"Shame on you," he scowls.

"Ah ah ah! You didn't let me finish. Got my ass beat right after I beat his ass! Well, sorta. I dunno man, I don't remember much of that fight. Lots of white. Lots of shocks to the brain. Wasn't very motherfuckin' chill at all."

"Well, as long as you fucked him up as much as he fucked you up, I'm proud."

"Yeah," I yawn sheepishly, "I still want a rematch though. One where we're both fresh and frolickin' know what I'm saying? Motherfucker was kind of a bummer." Strazio nods. I take that as approvaliciousness. Oh! I almost forgot.

"Yo, Straz," I start, reaching into my beautifully bottomless pockets. "had some time while I was waiting on ya, made you some sick new threads. Figured you'd want something that wasn't all torn to shreddles and bloody. Plus, pretty fucking cold out here. You's gonna want this."

I toss him an old school bomber jacket made of a dark brown leather. The inside is coated in a white wool, should be hella comfy out here in the frost. He catches it with an appraising look before slipping it on.

"Fucking righteous..." He says. I give him a hopeful look.

"Saaaayyyyy iiiiiiit," I say with a wink.

He shakes his head for about the fifth time in the past two minutes and gives in with a sigh. "...Bro."

Fuck yeah. Now we're on the motherfuckin' move.
