Wing It? Or Must outline? - Retane - 02-18-2015
After my last RP I have to wonder... who does all those plans and outlines? and who just wings it? ANd Why?
Personally... IN my years of Rping I seem to keep the same aggressive style. I Might have an end goal and a few slight outlines... But other then that.. I wing it. I dont feel I can Plan a characters development that easily...
PLus I like it when things change.
But I also am from a predominant fighting style rpg as well... Lol

I do a mixture. I usually have a rough idea of what I want to 'get done' with a certain post - especially if I am roleplaying with a partner - then I just write what comes naturally and eventually make it to what I consider to be my cut-off point for the next person in the post order to continue. Sometimes my posts end up being much longer than I intend doing this, but sometimes they are far shorter than I think they will be as well.

Typically I plan out major events, and main plot progression I'd like to produce with my posts, but I always have some form of random inspiration or idea midway through the post that alters or adds to my course of action. Then there are times when I'm on a roll and just throw out whatever comes to mind, refining it once I'm finished by either taking away or incorporating additional parts.
One stipulation I try to keep in mind is that if I'm not enjoying writing it, people likely won't enjoy reading it.

I have vague goals... but really I just know what I want to write WHEN I write it. Before that it's all fluid.

^ This. I normally have the big events planned out, but the stuff that happens in-between I tend to just go with it, seeing what inspiration I have. Sometimes, as Luffy said, I get on such a roll that I shift around the big plan to accommodate.

My writing is like an Indiana Jones ploy: Make it up as I go along, and don't bother looking back. There's usually only the faintest idea of what I might do, and I'm just as likely to drop that for going with the flow than holding onto a set ending.

sometimes i do, sometimes i don't. In the case of what I'm writing right now, i do have a general idea of how i want to become a part of the bigger plot, or at least how I'll get to cinnabar, but I haven't got an entire written down outline. on singular posts though sometimes if i'm having trouble i'll write down what i want to happen with as little flavor as i can to get all my thoughts down quickly, then go through it again but make it more descriptive and... well, good.
