La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin - Mami Tomoe - 02-01-2015

A clearly exhausted Mami awoke in a beautiful field of pure green, with a gentle wind blowing against her face and long blades of grass tickling her legs. Her eyes fluttered open and she stood up on slightly weak legs... What had happened to her to leave her in this place? The last thing she knew, she had been in that border, that place of nothing but white. Well, there had been those people and the gate she had stepped through, but no evidence of any of those things could be seen nearby. In fact, she couldn't see the gate she had stepped through anywhere. So had someone taken her here?

That snapped Mami to attention. Her head perked up, her eyes narrowed and she glanced around. Seeing absolutely nobody anywhere, she thought she was alone... For now, at least. Though she might be unlucky enough to run into someone less than pleasant. Shaking aside her thoughts, Mami continued to look around in the hopes that perhaps she would find some direction to head in. She didn't remember anything quite like this place - She knew a place like this that had wind turbines near her school, but she hadn't seen anything as empty as this. It couldn't be natural, could it? Regardless, she saw something that, quite simply, answered her question. It couldn't be natural.

It couldn't be natural, because there was a giant tower-castle off in the distance. I could head towards that... But who knows what's inside?

Whatever the risk was of setting foot in there, it couldn't be greater than anything she had already done. Mami broke into a run, creating a ring of rifles around her in case she ran into any danger. Her Soul Gem shone brightly on her hairpin - Though out of curiosity, she held the hairpin in her hand and wondered just how long she had gone without a Grief Seed. Yet, still, her Soul Gem shone so brightly. It was odd... Maybe this place, whatever it was, kept her Soul Gem pure somehow? Mami swiftly clipped her hairpin (And Soul Gem) back in place in her hair and continued running. The fortress of sorts in the distance didn't seem to be getting much closer... So she had quite the walk to go on.

Quote:Next stop, Minas Tirith! Unless someone interrupts Mami on her little walk, she'll be arriving in the next post. Feel free to intervene if you so desire (And if you're in some random field in Camelot), but if not, that's fine too!

This isn't exactly my highest quality work, but after taking so long to post, I figured I just had to get something out rather than waste a few weeks refining a post to my usual quality. I'll be off, and if you chose to read this, thank you and/or I'm sorry, depending on your opinion on my writing!

The little Magical Girl approached the colossal fortress drawing ever closer. She couldn't help but wonder what exactly she would find inside this city or what she expected to find there, even. In fact, what was she accomplishing by traveling to this place. She came close enough almost to touch the walls, which appeared far too large to scale by jumping, and climbing was impossible due to the walls being almost completely flat. With a light sigh, she began to walk along the side of the wall with her left hand sliding gently along the surface as she walked.

Mami noticed an indent on the wall - A large one, in fact, fitting for a gate. With a growing feeling of excitement, she glanced around the corner and saw a large gate made of wood and reinforced by some sort of metal - It probably wouldn't be easily opened herself, she decided, but she attempted to push it open regardless. With a fair degree of difficulty (It seemed either Mami had started lifting weights recently or the door weighed less than it appeared), she managed to open the door enough for her to comfortably slip through. She walked through the gate only to find it closing behind her, probably by someone handling the gates above her on the walls or inside the walls in a less likely scenario.

Well, whoever was responsible for that, I hope you're a little thankful that I pushed the door open for you. At that she started to look around with a look like she was lost practically written on her face - She knew Mitakihara like the back of her hand, but she had very little knowledge of... Whatever this place was. It seemed like it was pulled straight from a storybook, at second glance, which seemed to mesh with that 'Omni's description of the 'Omniverse'. Perhaps if she looked around, she would get an explanation for what exactly is happening? Or maybe she would meet this Omni again here?

The only way to figure anything out is to start looking, I suppose. At that she started walking the streets, looking about curiously as she did so.

Quote:Sort of small post is sort of small, but hopefully it's decent. I'll have more writing coming (very) soon after the awkward hiatus, ideally.

Re: La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin - Mami Tomoe - 03-03-2015

Mami glanced around curiously, finding nothing that really caught her eye in this place. Yes, it was a spectacular place to be in, what with it looking like pure fantasy - But as a Magical Girl, she had been exposed to surreal sights on a daily basis, which sort of desensitized her to seeing things like this and being completely awestruck. There were times, however, when such a thing could happen - Something about this place just didn't seem to strike a nerve. Though that seemed to make it sound negative. Mami had put away her rifles not long ago, believing it not necessary to carry them around in a city - Not to mention she would probably unnerve numerous passerby.

On the topic, she appeared to be getting more than a few crooked stares as she walked the cobblestones. She knew she didn't belong in this place - It looked like a Renaissance Fair gone high-budget, which was starting to rub her the wrong way, but something told her she was the one that was out of place here, not these people. Maybe she had stumbled into the wrong giant fortress-town? Maybe. But even when things seemed hopeless, there always had to be someone that knew what to do, right? While usually she found that person was herself... This place - This Omniverse - Felt like it had no answers, only what was convenient would be reality.

And perhaps that was the truth.

At that she ended her very brief visit to Minas Tirith, though she never had even learned the name. She walked out the gates once again as they opened for her and closed as she walked off. She looked about again in every direction in the hopes that perhaps she would see something, anything, worth noting. However, she had no luck. Flat plains of bright green grass and occasionally patches of dirt or mud rolled out around her, leaving nothing for her to head towards. Except for the gate she had come from, of course. What if she tried her luck with that gate again? Maybe she would find herself someplace different?

No, this gate looked to be the same. It even had the same surroundings as the gate she had seen earlier. If she went through this, would she end up in the Nexus again? Or would this take her somewhere else? More importantly, why was she giving up on this world so soon? There had to be more to it than she was seeing.

But there's seven other gates in the Nexus, she thought. I could either explore one thoroughly in the hopes that someone gives me answers, or I can stop worrying about answers and just enjoy myself here. It was then that she recalled what Omni had said - Something along the lines of You can stay so long as you interest me. Mami had the idea that looking for this Omni wouldn't interest him, and would probably irritate him. Implying he was even a him.

I'll give this place some time, she thought. I'll look around a bit more, and if I don't find anything interesting, I'll come back here. She began heading the opposite way she had been heading before in the hopes that she might find something new.

Quote:When plans change and you go all the way back to where you started... Yeah, I know that feel right there.

Re: La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin - Mami Tomoe - 03-06-2015

The landscape had certainly changed so far, which felt encouraging. Rolling hills of bright, colourful flowers, as well as nearly lime green grass extended outwards as far as Mami could see (Which, admittedly, wasn't far because the hills obscured her vision in numerous directions). She had yet to see anyone really of note - While she had seen a few people, they seemed to be similar to the people she had seen in that fortress not long ago - Like they had just stepped out of medieval times or, more fittingly, a storybook. Maybe this place was some kind of book in itself, and Mami had gotten herself trapped in it somehow?

Mami tilted her head slightly as she walked, finding such a thought to seem preposterous. No, that's probably not it. She continued along with a light sigh, wondering just what this place was. Perhaps it would have helped if she had asked anyone that... Right. So the next person I come by I'm going to get an explanation from. As long as I get something, anything that even remotely seems like an explanation for this place or why I'm here - Or if I'm even supposed to be here - Will be useful. She continued along, slipping her boots in between the various bits of foliage strewn about on the ground.

She reached the top of a hill, where no plants seemed to grow beyond with the exception of the aforementioned lime green grass. Mami stopped and shifted to a comfortable standing position and cracked a warm smile as she thought of the mechanical windmills she saw in the hills near school, which were in a place like this, though the area was bordered on two sides by the city. It was about then that she wondered if she was going to find her way home or not. What would she do if she couldn't get home? Would she wander this place forever? The prospects of that didn't seem painful, but it certainly wouldn't satisfy to just look around in this field forever. She worried about how Mitakihara would fare without her to hunt Witches - Without a doubt there would be trouble without her, but what could she do? This place didn't seem to have an exit. There were gates, though they only seemed to get her tangled further into the web of this 'Omniverse', as it were.

But perhaps she didn't mind that. She had the feeling she was going to do something important here, and that maybe it wasn't quite time to leave yet. She surveyed the area and, before long, saw a beaten dirt and gravel path. With slightly widened eyes, the corners of her mouth perked up with joy and renewed energy she ran down the hill to the path and, upon reaching it, started a walk that would take a while. Maybe just drifting wherever she pleased wasn't so bad after all - Little victories like finding a path to follow, however short it may be, would never feel like anything if she had stayed in Mitakihara.

Re: La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin - Mami Tomoe - 03-10-2015

Mami had found a strange sense of pride and energy in her every step, a feeling she had not had for a long time. While she hunted Witches and Familiars out of necessity and for the safety of others, it wasn't exactly a thing done for pleasure, and it was nice to do something physical that wasn't work but for leisure. Exploring this land, even if it was a bit slow and at times predictable, was calming but exciting at the same time - Perhaps that was the appeal wandering Magical Girls saw, for they were not stuck in one area and could instead travel as they did their work. Maybe that extended to normal jobs, as well, though being a Magical Girl could hardly be considered a job in the traditional sense.

Mami was beginning to feel tired, which only seemed fitting, as she had been wandering for far more than she was used to. It seemed to be about time for some sort of break, but where would she stay? She could see no signs of civilization for miles - Save for that fortress off far in the distance and some sort of floating island... Perhaps she would look into that someday... Wait, floating island? Mami double-took and blinked rapidly. She couldn't believe her eyes - This had to be a dream, or something - It couldn't be reality now. But it was far too coherent to be a Witch or Familiar's barrier. But what kind of explanation for this place was there? Or was she just looking too far into things where she would find nothing?

No, no, no. Searching for answers where none existed would get her nowhere. She needed something to do - But how would she go about finding something like that? She didn't exactly have a duty here - All she could do was wander until something popped up. Or she could make something pop up with this Omnilium she was being metaphorically bogged down with. Hoping she knew what she was doing, Mami cupped her hands with her arms extended in front of her and began to focus. She began to see the rainbow form in her hands - The Omnilium she had seen not long ago was working before her eyes, and it would soon form something that could give her purpose. But what that object was? That was beyond her. Whatever it was, she was content to have it, and was glad it was small, for fear this was some situation like an ill-willed genie - Wish for something and some terrible twist befalls it, but it luckily didn't seem that way, at least not yet.

After about five or six minutes of unbroken focus, Mami found herself staring at a golden-yellow device with a large screen and a number of keys. It was small enough to fit in a pocket, though she had none, and had a sort of clip so she could put it on her outfit somewhere, though she worried little about that for the time being. She looked at it curiously and sifted through various options on the machine - Some things on the machine were familiar-sounding, but not familiar truly. Eventually she found something that simply screamed THIS IS YOUR PURPOSE to her:

Bounties in Coruscant, followed by a number of names, head prices and conditions. It didn't seem as heroic as witch hunting, but it would do for now. Someone specific called out to her on that list - Most notably due to the word Wizard - Which made her wonder, were there perhaps others with the same abilities as herself? Maybe instead of Magical Girls, here...

Mami broke into a sprint for the gate - All she needed was to pass someone by in that Nexus and get some directions. Black duster. Staff and rod. Last seen heading for the Vasty Deeps gate. Approach with caution...

After a while spent running, Mami slipped through the gate, preparing her eyes for the blinding white of the Nexus as she did so. Now just where would I find Harry Dresden?
