"A Round" - Karl Jak - 06-11-2018

I've received this question in various forms over the last 36 hours, so I'm making one post that will hopefully resolve the inquiries.

For the purpose of 'time-based' mechanics in this 2-round, 2x2 tournament, please consider '1 round' to be 4 consecutive posts.

If I am Poster #2, and I decided to activate a Transformation in my post 'and have it go one round', that effect will conclude when it's my turn to post next.

So if you want to use a Transform with only a single payment it would last 2 posts? Yours and the next post

No. Transformations either last for 1 post, or 1 round. A single payment gives you one post. If you pay double, you can make it last a full round. For example, If you spend 1sp on a T1 power-up, it will only last for one post. But if you spend 2sp, it will last a full round.

See: http://omniverse-rpg.com/fights.php#Transforming

Quote:With the exception of 'alternate form' transformations, transformations cost SP per use. You may therefore opt to use transformations sparingly, or gratuitously. Transformations may last for a single post, or for an entire round, which costs twice the usual SP cost, regardless of the number of players involved and thus posts in a round. Using a transformation for an entire round means that it will last roughly until the beginning of your next post. If your opponent is posting first, you may request in the OOC topic for the fight that you wish to begin the fight transformed. They must honor this.

Doesn't that mean that using 2 SP for a T1 transform gives you 4x as much time as 1 SP?

RE: "A Round" - Mickey Mouse - 06-11-2018

@Schwi: Yep, looks like it!

RE: "A Round" - Schwi Dola - 06-11-2018

That kind of energy to output ratio is extremely noticeable in character

Yes and no.

There's a couple of reasons for the ruling that I can kinda deduce:
1) It's simpler. Rather than counting posts - especially for something like a fight with 5 people (would your 1sp T1 give you 2 posts or 3 posts for its duration) - it's just a standardised "1sp for a post, double that for a round".
2) You have to consider that you're the one writing that first post. It's one post with you writing your character with a T1 transformation, and three posts with others writing them. In my opinion, that first post is probably going to have a lot more "value" than a single other post - because your character is in the spotlight.

So, yes in the sense that "I get 4 times as many posts with these stats" but no in the sense that for some of those posts, you won't always be in the spotlight. Your character could be off at the side doing something else, or just taking a back seat depending on who's posting. And even if your character is present and active for all 4 of those posts, that first one that you write is probably going to be a lot more potent judging-wise.

As for "real-time" outside of fights, it is strictly double the duration.

RE: "A Round" - Bandit With No Name - 06-11-2018

A "round" exists in this just like it does in every other RPG: it lasts from the time that you first used it until every other person has gone. You go "AROUND" the table until all the other players have taken their action.

RE: "A Round" - Schwi Dola - 06-11-2018

That isn't the point, especially someone like Schwi who would Insight and calculate any variable would note how her target has 4 times more energy reserves than her estimate suggests if they spent all of their SP in full round transforms. Something this drastic changes Lore.

And that wouldn't be complicated. Half round down.

Write around it.

RE: "A Round" - Dane Regan - 06-11-2018

Yeah, Omni-physics is fucky.

But, irl, it's much more efficient to keep a nuclear power station up for 48 hours than for 12 hours due to it taking time to start up and everything. So there's a "logical" justification and whatnot. It's easier to keep running once you're already running than to start running after stopping. It's easier to stay awake than it is to get out of bed after not sleeping enough. And so on.

There's lotsa weird Omni-physics stuff. Sometimes it's more noticable IC than others. And sometimes it seems more reasonable.

RE: "A Round" - Sarah Kerrigan - 06-11-2018

Could just be a "round" is taking the exact same time here. Just because it's "4 posts" OOC, doesn't mean it's twice the time IC. especially considering the time length of a post is completely variable - being anywhere from 5 seconds to a couple minutes - and thus, the time and energy these things take is variable and hard to nail down as an exact in the first place.

RE: "A Round" - Schwi Dola - 06-11-2018

'Write around it'. I already said how to do that.

Look, I get that its how it is right now. I can deal with that. That doesn't change that I would like it up for consideration to be changed. Internal consistency in the world when we can achieve it should be important.

Rules Feedback is available if you want to voice something. I doubt anything would change during this DA - and it might not change at all because there are valid reasons for leaving it how it is now.

Time in the Omniverse.

Ain't it a goofy thing.
