Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 11-29-2014

Okay, so I had this Idea a while ago, for an omniverse T.V show (it would be posted in the data verse)

The show would be called 'Law and Orker' and it would feature two characters, Law and Orker.
Law is a relatively buff human, brought to the omniverse specifically as an actor, where as Orker
is a highly intelligent Orc from the Tangled green, Orker had read many human books
(finding lost ones within the jungle) and aspired to be an actor on what he came to discover was
Television. Orker ventured out of the Tangled green and into the nexus, where he finds Law, and
ther are swept up but storm troopers and taken to Coruscant, where they become the stars of their
Own T.V show 'Law & Orker' They would film episodes across the Omniverse.

Now I was thinking this could be a thing in which Multiple people could work on an episode for each week.
I thought it'd be fun and whatnot, Obviously I'd thought myself would write a fair amount of episodes, but
I wouldn't be the only one to write them, anyone that expressed interest could write an episode. Of course
I'd need to come up with a minimum word count for each episode and the story line for an episode could
carry over multiple episodes, which could be written by one person, or multiple people, if they wanted to
see how others would take the story line and take it in their direction.

So that was just something I wanted to throw up for discussion.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Inlumia - 11-29-2014

Interesting. What kind of show do you want it to be?
Also, if it is being made in Coruscant, then what would it be allowed to be, considering censorship? I'm guessing heavily biased in the Empire's favour and saying how bad people from the Kingdom and Lower Tiers are.
I'm interested it.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 11-29-2014

It would be like a typical crime fighting duo, sorry xD I knew there was something I was missing out on, and of course, based in Coruscant, then I guess it could be highly biased against the kingdom, but I was thinking that it would be more of them solving crimes that happen within the tv show, within the omniverse, like murder, hostage situations, etc.

Of course I haven't fleshed this out fully, but if I have people expressing their interest, then I'll Iron out the fine details (I have the time, finished school this year and I am taking a year off before going to Uni, so I have the time to flesh this out x3)

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Guu - 11-30-2014

Considering the standard length of a show episode is 22 minutes and 20 seconds (in America at least,) I'd say the word count per episode should around 2,220 words for a 30 minute show, 4,440 words for a 60 minute show. Adjust to 3,000 words or 6,000 words if you decide to do commercials (depends if we are talking Hulu or Netflix here.)
If you fear the work load might drive people away, you could half those numbers or at least give the option to do so.

Also, I can look into making a Hulu and Netflix versions of my Youtube player. Considering I know the correct dimensions, shouldn't be as hard...

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 11-30-2014

Guu, that would be a big help! but at the moments I'm really only trying to get people on board and interested, so I haven't focused on any of that information yet

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Inlumia - 11-30-2014

Crime fighters? Considering it is a police state, they would have to be either bounty hunters, PIs or official investigators. Otherwise they would be charge with vigilliantism.
Something like PIs would be good because it gives them an excuse to wonder around to different areas.
Considering it is the Empire, there are a wide range of areas to pick from, such as dealing with drug dealers in the Vasty Deep, people selling supply convoy details to bandits in the Endless Dunes, or poachers smuggling rare animal parts in from the remaining wilderness area, and a lot more.
Still, it would all require a lot of setting up before going to those places, since apart from concerning one area of the Vasty Deep, the Empire wouldn't want the truth of how things are known.
Considering Orker is a Secondary and a non-human, things could be used there. Expressly with the Secondary Liberation Movement (mentioned here) and the Pokemon Liberation Front.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 11-30-2014

This is a TV show you know xD this is all for an omniverse Televisionshow, cameras and scripts and whatnot, I think you've misunderstood the idea Inluminia x3

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Inlumia - 11-30-2014

I know it's for a show. I'm just thinking about how the actors would be cast and how to give them the best possible range of episodes, like producers and scriptwriters would.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 11-30-2014

Fair enough, I just thought you may have been looking at it from the point of view as them being Prime characters within the omniverse xD my mistake Tongue

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Inlumia - 11-30-2014

I was just thinking, this would be good for anyone who is interested in learning script writing or other related things, like making stories in general.
RP can be good for learning how to submerse yourself in anouther role, which writers and actors need to be able to do, but creating story arcs, plot and other related things can also be worked on here.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 11-30-2014

yeah, and it's a valid Idea! I was just hoping to find people who are interested first x3 before we get down to fleshing out the details.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Guu - 12-01-2014

So are we going for a large cast like CSI/Law and Order or are we having a detective kind of deal kind of like Sherlock Holmes? I mean, if you don't want them to be involved with Empire law enforcement, the Sherlock route would make the most sense.
I'm just going to assume the Sherlock route, despite going against the pun since that's more inline with your pitch. I think the Human detective is a misanthropic pain-in-the-ass but good looking recluse, and the Orc is someone he hires in as the heavy. But, as it turns out the Orc is a spiritual person who only fights in self-defense. He believes in shamanism and seeks balance with nature, as well as peace with all living beings. So in reality, the good looking human is the ugly one and the Orc presents true beauty. It'll be interesting seeing them play off each other.

Oh yeah, when I finish the Netflix build, do you mind if I make my own show in the Dataverse? Kind of want to do it to test if this would all work, but I don't want to feel like i'm stealing your idea.
It's just going to be some cheesy sitcom I have in mind.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 12-01-2014

I just wanted it to be like a duo cop comedy/ crime solving t.v show, and I don't mind if you make your own tv show, as long as you don't use the characters I came up with, or the name or concept of the show I have in mind, otherwise, it would render my Idea useless and I would see no point in continuing this idea.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Guu - 12-01-2014

No worries about that. It's a nuclear family "filmed in front of a live studio audience" kind of deal called "Prime of Life" about a secondary wife and kids who plot each episode to kill their idiot jerkass prime husband/father for the fun and satisfaction of it. Yeah, the writer's want to appeal to the larger secondary target demographic, but don't exactly know what they would want. Kind of like how business corporations that make movies cast money grubbing businessmen as villains.

It'd be fun in Law and Orker to have meta things like that get in the way.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 12-01-2014

Yeah, you're right, but at the moment, I'm just trying to get a team together, of people who are interested, once I get that together, we can iron out the fine details and whatnot

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Guilmon - 12-01-2014

I'm not much of a writer, but I'm pretty good at editing. If you don't have a script/narrative editor yet, I wouldn't mind joining.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Inlumia - 12-01-2014

I'm best with coming up with ideas and sometimes fleshing them out. I am also good at making two things no-one considered related to each other seem like they were designed to be together.

About the characters, we can't have 2 bumbling cops. I'm thinking of something along the lines of Law (the human) being oblivious to obvious things and jumping to wrong conclusions, with Orker playing his straight man.
Maybe have Law foil the villians occasionally by doing something so outragous the criminals can't possibly expect it, such as stopping a would be murderer by arresting the intended target with filing false police reports about previous attempts, thus keeping the target in protective custody.

How to get them working together? Maybe have Law save Orker once before Orker joined the police, and Orker consider himself in blood debt to Law. That would explain why Orker keeps working with someone like Law instead of requesting a change of partner.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 12-01-2014

It wouldn't be a script, but more of a role play, like watching the final thing rather than filming, but an editor for the posts would be handy

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Inlumia - 12-02-2014

One thing I would be willing to do is to maintain the bible. That is what they call the record of the story events, the character and place profiles. Basically a record of all the details so we can avoid conflicts in the story line.

Am I getting this straight, you want us to run the story as play, with us in charge of different parts, building on what went before?

Will there be an episode plot to follow or will make the entire thing up? If the latter, I can see things going pretty badly, which ironically would probably prove to be very good for ratings.

Re: Law & Orker (Opinions wanted) - Cloud Strife - 12-02-2014

Hmm... so, basically what I was trying to get across was the idea of writing a normal roleplay, like we would in any other verse, but using these two characters (and side characters that I'll have to develop), and instead of it being an actual crime fighting duo within the omniverse, it's a television show, so we'd put elements of T.V shows in the writing, like taking a break for a little bit of news, or some add breaks, and then at the end of each post (1 episode) we have something like 'Tune in next week blah blah blah

And I think I'll be the one keeping the bible, that'll make it easier for me to have all the details, and then distribute them as needed (considering it's my idea, I don't feel like I should put that part on someone else)

and yes, it won't just be one person writing each episode, but if someone wishes to Write a post, the should consult me, and then the person who wrote an episode before they expressed interest (as that person may have a story line that continues over multiple episodes). Like I said, I haven't ironed everything out yet, I will get to it, but right now, I'm just looking for people who would be interested in writing or helping out, the fine tuning will come later.

I don't plan to beging writing on this within the next month, as christmas is coming up and family stuff will be going on, so it will most likely begin sometime in january, and this gives the project more time to get people interested and time for me to Iron everything out.
