Grayenhale is your typical fantasy world, filled with typical heroes. Somewhere, a typical evil overlord is preparing to take over the world in a typical fashion. There will be a typical quest and a typical battle. And the day will be won, in typical fashion.
As long as all those typical battles between good and evil stay far away from a cluster of islands called Sigilane, there won’t be a problem. You see, that unremarkable collection of six islands is the home and workplace of Hazel Vultoni, a rising star in the business of dragon breeding and training. A rising star that would prefer for all that not-really-end of the world nonsense to stay far, far away from her home.
It’s not that she doesn’t care but Hazel is busy woman. Breeding and raising dragon requires constant attention. Not to mention the upkeep of the islands, the business side of her work and all that entails, and combine that with training the dragons. She barely has time for her hobbies or anything else really, much less adventuring or heroing. Just leave her and her dragons in peace.
This peace was interrupted by the discovery of an archipelago still stuck in the ice age. One of the major discoveries was a dragon egg. It was unlike any egg on record, belonging to a long extinct species. No attempts to hatch the egg succeeded. So they brought the egg to Hazel, in hopes that she could hatch it. Since the egg cane from the ice age archipelago, Hazel figures that it can only be hatched there. Reluctant to go but more determined to succeed, she joined the next voyage to the archipelago. She left her island in the care of some trusted friends and family and set out.
She never makes it to her destination. A freak storm interrupts their expedition. It wrecks their vessel and sends them all to a watery grave. Or it was supposed to happen like that. Omni saw it fit to bring Hazel to the Omniverse, where she now resides.
