It occured to me today that I have a lot of sayings and phrases I grew up with that people may find whimsical or useful. Feel free to post your own.



Bug-Tussel
Adj.
To describe a place that would be considered backwoods to someone who lives in the back woods, but still populated.

"Grandma lives up there in bug-tussel PA, with all her toothless friends."




Purple Gench
Noun
A strange, sudden, very bad cold or flu of unknown origin.

"Yeah, I had some bar nuts in Thailand one time. Came down with Purple Gench."



Yins
Idiom
Synonymous with 'Y'all', commonly used in western PA

"Yins goin back up home a'night?"



Gob
Noun
A specific type of whoopee pie made in western PA, originating from Johnstown. Accept no substitutes.

"Dozen gobs'll be five twenty."



Soybeaner
Noun
A particularly vile or noxious case of flatulence.

"Christ, smells like someone left a soybeaner in here."



Jesus Snack
Noun
The ritual of Holy Communion as practised by Lutherans.

"I'm gonna just wait to use the commode until we get our Jesus Snack."



State Weed
Noun
Marijuana which grows endemically in the wild around central PA

"What's in this pipe man; kush or just state weed?"
