Switching Characters - Ballad to Isaac Clarke - Corporal Light - 06-08-2017 Character name: Isaac Clarke Character source: Dead Space Character history:
In the far distant future, the Planet Earth was on the verge of extinction. Humans had sucked the Earth dry of all possible resources, leaving the land barren and unable to support the increase of human population. Those few that were still alive all collectively realized that their only hope for survival laid in the cosmos, on other planets. To save the human race, they had to go to other planets and mine them for their resources. That is where the CEC, or the Concordance Extraction Corporation, came in. It was a public trading company and one that heavily specialized in deep space mining and exploration. Using their resources, they built a ship that went on to arguably save humanity from extinction: the USG Ishimura. The Ishimura would go on to mine the most rare and valuable resources from other planets and transport them over to earth for consumption using a practice known as “Planetcracking.” Using massive lasers, planets were literally split apart and the chunks pulled to the Planet Cracker-type vessel using state-of-the-art gravity tethers, where the chunks of rock and dirt are split apart and picked clean of any ore, mineral, or resource held within. This practice, while arguably rather dangerous, was more than enough to save humanity from dying off on Earth and resulted in an entire fleet of ships dedicated to cracking planets apart and looting their remains. The Ishimura, especially, became a symbol to mankind of its determination and ability to survive, both in deep space and on its dying world. Thanks to it, resources were plentiful and mankind was thriving again. Sadly, the Ishimura, mankind’s survival, on its 35th planetcrack, became the site of something that could threaten its very existence. Before the events of the USG Ishiumura can be documented, however, we have to go back in time to note one of its most important players: CEC Engineer Isaac Clarke. Isaac was born on Earth on the year 2465 of June 5th to his parents Paul Clarke, a ship designer, and Octavia Clarke, a Unitologist. Unitology was a cult-like religion that expressed unwavering faith towards an alien artifact called a Marker, which they believed had the power to reunite humanity in heaven. One of the fastest growing religions in the history of the universe (primarily due to their concerns of planet-cracking and the increasingly materialistic nature of Earth Government and of humanity in general,) Isaac’s mother was a devout worshipper of the Marker, and regularly spent the family’s finances on tithes to rise up the ranks of Unitology. Her rampant spending eventually came to the detriment of Isaac himself, as due to her actions, his career in ship engineering was halted as tuition for colleges became far too high. This is what started Issac’s general dislike and distrust of Unitologists and Unitology in general, as it caused him to believe that they were inherently selfish and far too willing to put their religion over anything else, even if it defied all reasoning. Note: it should be noted that Unitology, despite its growing popularity, was heavily looked down upon by the general public. Many saw them and their beliefs as insane. Indeed, those that believed in a religion took up a minority of the human population; atheism was the norm for humanity in the far future. Despite the family’s financial difficulties, Isaac was able to pursue his engineering career, albeit in a lesser college. After graduation, he decided to enlist with the Merchant Marines, tasked with patrolling and maintaining security on various vessels. It is with his time with the Merchant Marines did he impress his superiors with his handling of various engineering situations, and thus was given the role of a ship engineer for vessels on major shipping lines. At some point during this, he met Nicole Brennan, a fellow CEC member and medical specialist who would later become his girlfriend. They lived together for a long time, and it was also due to him that Nicole Brennan eventually became a crew member on the USG Ishimura itself, a move that she thanked Isaac for immensely. It was due to Nicole being on the Ishimura that, when a distress signal is sent out and an emergency response unit is formed, he volunteered for the unit. And thus, we can chronicle the events of the Ishimura with all the relevant context. The USG Kellion housed the emergency response unit, led by military man Zach Hammond and containing fellow CEC member Kendra Daniels, tasked with determining what had happened to the Ishimura. They followed the distress signal to Aegis VII, where they found the derelict ship orbiting the planet-cracked planet. Attempts to communicate with the vessel failed, and a docking procedure malfunctions, resulting in the Kellion crash-landing into the ship, stranding the Kellion crew on the Ishimura. Despite this, the Kellion crew exited their ship and set out to find survivors. It soon became very apparent the ship was all but completely abandoned. Not to be deterred, they enter the flight lounge while Isaac enters another room to upload the damage reports of the Ishimura to see what needed to be repaired. Just as he does so, however, the entire flight lounge goes dark and a quarantine is initiated due to biological contaminants. Said “contaminants” end up attacking the crew and soon begin pursuing Isaac himself, who’s forced to flee down a long hallway and into an elevator in order to escape from them. After obtaining a weapon (namely, his Plasma Cutter, which he used to defend himself all throughout his journey through the Ishimura,) he came into contact and Kendra and Zach again, who instruct him on repairing various portions of the ship in exchange for helping him find Nicole. During this process, he went to repair the Kellion, only to have those “contaminants,” called Necromorphs, to show up and blow up the Kellion, leaving the survivors stranded on the ship. As Isaac fought his way through the Ishimura to repair its critical systems, he slowly began to unravel what had happened to the ship. To make a long story short, the CEC had attempted an illegal planet crack on Aegis VII, and the captain of the Ishimura was assigned to retrieve a “Red Marker” for the Church of Unitology. After finding it, the Ishimura was largely replaced by Unitologists, who then proceeded to extract the Marker. However, the Marker ended up causing mass homicidal and suicidal tendencies within the crew. This did not stop the planet crack from occurring, however. Said planet crack, however, resulted in the Necromorph outbreak. They first began assaulting the colony on Aegis VII that was set up to aid mineral extraction, and the captain was forced to cut off communications to prevent the infection from reaching the ship. The Captain, however, was eventually killed, and a colony shuttle piloted by a colony survivor ended up infecting the Ishimura with Necromorphs, who began running rampant within the ship and killing everyone they came across. In the chaos, the communications array is damaged, most of the emergency pods and shuttles are launched empty, and a distress signal is eventually relayed to CEC and Earth Gov, who send respective teams for repairs and search and rescue. By the time the Kellion arrived, the ship had almost completely fallen to the Necromorph threat. During his journey, Isaac was able to come into contact with Nicole Brennan, though only through holographic messaging. She acted very strangely, though this did not stop Isaac from continuing in the hopes of finding her. After repairing the critical systems of the Ishimura, the trio were successful in launching a distress beacon that was then picked up by military ship, USM Valor. However, the Valor too fell to the Necromorphs after picking up an escape pod with a Necromorph inside. Due to the heavy armaments of the ship, Zach deduced that the ship was not meant to rescue them, but to destroy the ship; someone else knew of the Necromorph threat. With both the Ishimura and the Valor lost, the trio decide to escape from the ships with a shuttle. To do so, they board the Valor and retrieve its power core to repair a shuttle, though the resulting mission comes at the cost of Zach Hammond’s life. During this mission, Isaac Clarke came into contact with Doctor Terrence Kyne, a survivor of the Ishimura, who informed him of the nature of the Red Marker and how to stop the Necromorph outbreak. Essentially, the Marker had served as an engineered inhibitor of the Necromorphs, as the one that controlled them, The Hive Mind, only laid dormant while the Marker was placed on Aegis VII. To defeat the Necromorphs, the Red Marker had to return to the planet. After loading the Marker onto the shuttle with Clarke’s assistance, however, Kyne is promptly killed by Kendra Daniels, revealing herself a government agent tasked with retrieving the Marker. Daniels attempts to take the shuttle and leave Clarke for dead, but with the help of Nicole, Isaac is able to recall it and force Daniels to leave the shuttle with an escape pod. The shuttle now in his control, Clarke took the shuttle down to the Aegis VII colony and set the Marker there, pacifying the Necromorphs. However, this action also shut off the gravity tethers holding the chunks of the planet above the colony, causing them to plummet down to the surface. Before he can escape, however, Daniels appeared and took back the Marker. Before she left, however, she revealed through a fully recovered distress transmission that Nicole had been dead the entire time; the Nicole he had been seeing were hallucinations used by the Marker to deliver it back to the planet. Heartbroken, but not deterred, he tried in vain to prevent Kendra from leaving, only for The Hive Mind to show up and do his job for him. Him and The Hive Mind fought for a long while, with the end result being The Hive Mind’s death. Isaac then ran back to the shuttle, leaving the Marker behind, and was able to escape Aegis VII by the time the chunks of the planet careened into the colony and destroyed it. Setting a course away from Aegis VII, Isaac finally relaxed, but still wanted to be sure if what he had seen was real. Watching the suicide video again, the realization that his girlfriend had been killed, and how she could have lived if he had not convinced her to go onto the Ishimura in the first place, drove him to despair. The effects of the Marker also ravaged him mentally, gifting him hallucinations. Before he entered the Omniverse, however, was suddenly attacked by an apparition of Nicole, with the sudden shock knocking him out and allowing him to enter the Omniverse.
Physical Description: ![]() (1000 OM) Stats: First Stat Increase - ATK (1000 OM) ATK: 5. You have to be strong if you’re able to stomp off limbs! Most of his weapons, while not military by any means, are still damn strong and were able to get him through the Ishimura during the Necromorph outbreak. He is more than capable of dealing a hefty amount of damage to anyone who gets into conflict with him. DEF: 4. Even without his RIG, he’s able to tank a surprising amount of damage. Most blades only slow him down, and even gunshots can’t keep him down. Apart from the sheer resilience and reliability of his RIG, a lot of it comes down to sheer determination and will to live. SPD: 0. His RIG does not do him any favors for his speed whatsoever. Retreat is practically impossible, and due to the weight and armor of his RIG, he can’t outpace most opponents. TEC: 2. While he’s only an engineer, it must take some level of skill to be able to survive countless assaults from seemingly unkillable monsters of undead flesh. His courage also gives him some points here, as despite how terrified he can be while fighting, he’s still able to make rational choices and think outside the box. (3,000 OM) Starting Proficiencies: Physical Strength Proficiency (1000 OM,) Ranged Proficiency (1000 OM,) Debuff Proficiency (1000 OM) (2,600 OM) Starting Powers: Flight - 1800 OM. His RIG has thrusters attached to his wrists and feet, allowing him to launch himself in any particular direction he wants for a given time until it runs out of fuel. Time Manipulation - 800 OM. Ah, good ole’ stasis. Thanks to this, he has the capacity to limit the time in which certain objects and people move around. (900 OM) Starting Moves: 211-V Plasma Cutter - 300 OM (requires Ranged Proficiency.) A futuristic mining tool designed to cut apart frozen rocks in space, Isaac Clarke found out it was just as effective against organic matter as it was rock matter. The tool is able to deliver a superheated stream of one foot blue plasma “bolts” in either a horizontal or vertical direction depending on the setting mode of the tool, although the damage is the same regardless. Three blue lasers indicate the current mode of the tool while also serving as an improvised aiming assistant. The 211-V Plasma Cutter has only 10 shots before it needs to be reloaded, indicated by hologram on the tool, with the reload taking about three seconds before it is ready for use again. He only has so much ammo he is able to use before the weapon becomes unusable, with the amount being roughly 35 shots before another weapon is able to be used. The tool is semi-automatic with around a one second delay between shots, but the plasma bolts themselves are otherwise very accurate and, once fired, hits the target near instantly. The actual range is standard for a pistol-like tool, with its effective damage becoming negligible after anything farther than a standard pistol would fire, making it unsuitable for long range combat. Its effectiveness against beings in the Omniverse has been lessened thanks to Omniphysics, and as such no longer has the limb-tearing offense it used to have. Those with high defense are likely to be able to tank repeated hits without suffering too much damage, though it’s almost guaranteed to knock the wind out of them with a direct hit and possibly numb a limb if it hits one, and a low defense user will more than likely suffer a lot of pain if hit by this tool. The Mighty Boot - 300 OM (requires Physical Proficiency.) So powerful it requires it’s own move. Thanks to the enhanced power of the RIG suit as well as the power of his magnetic boots, this massive stomp is capable of completely removing limbs if the being unfortunate to experience this move has a low enough defense, and is still extremely powerful even to those with high defense. The move itself does not have any area-of-effect range, so the foot has to hit in order to deal any damage. It is not a particularly fast move, though, taking about three seconds with each stomp, nor does it have a very long range, requiring the opponent to be more or less right underneath Isaac for the move to be reliable. It’s also next to useless against non-grounded enemies. Plus, Isaac has to be standing in one place in order to use it; he cannot be moving around. While it can also be used alongside other moves, it's rather taxing on his stamina and thus impractical to use repeatedly both with and without using other moves at the same time. Stasis Module - 300 OM (requires Ranged Proficiency, Debuff Proficiency, Time Manipulation.) A versatile tool used by soldiers, engineers, scientists, and normal, everyday people, the Stasis Module is embedded inside Clarke’s RIG suit and indicated by a half-circle of blue light that drains and changes color with every usage. To use Stasis, Clarke activates a band attached to his hand and points it at his foe or object. To fire the stasis energy, Isaac has to stand in one place and charge up the shot, which takes around three-four seconds to complete in full. During this time, he has to concentrate on the shot, meaning if he is attacked or hurt during this time, he cannot launch the shot. Once he does so, he launches a baseball sized sphere of blue energy that goes about as fast as a thrown baseball (aka, pretty fast,) and, if it lands, distorts time and forces the affected opponent/object to slow down and move at about 75% of their normal speed. This stasis field lasts about one-two seconds, depending on the defense of the target, during which the foe/object is powerless to do anything other than wait out the process and allowing Isaac to do whatever he wants to them. However, aside from slowing down their speed for those one-two seconds, the stasis field does no damage nor any other debilitating effects. The actual range is also rather short, only lasting about bus-length before it dissipates into thin air, and the size of the energy ball means it's also rather easy to miss with. It also can only affect one thing at a time, so two people cannot suffer the effects of stasis at the same time. A shot also drains his suit of energy, causing him to move slightly slower and generally fatiguing him more and more with each shot. I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct. Yee. Where did you find us? Was already here! Which way do I GO?! I’M LOST! New Starting OM(?): 19,112.85 OM Total Spent OM: 7,500 OM. RE: Switching Characters - Ballad to Isaac Clarke - Mark - 06-09-2017 Can you be a bit more explicit on the sizing for the Plasma Cutter? Doesn't need to be exact units but something like "the size of a basketball" or something. Medium-sized is kinda relative. Also still need some kind of stamina drain or similar downside for the Stasis Module. RE: Switching Characters - Ballad to Isaac Clarke - Corporal Light - 06-09-2017 Edited once more with clarity!
