Aang was on the path to becoming a great Avatar.
Toph had built a school based around a form of Bending she had invented.
Sokka joined the White Lotus as a Master Swordsman and great leader.
Zuko was the Fire Lord that helped bring peace to to the world.
Sakura was a Master Healer and powerful warrior alongside the Avatar.
But there are a few more members of the party...
What happened to dear old Momo?
A Flying Lemur's life expectancy if domesticated is around fifteen years. When he found Aang, Momo was already three years old and considered a young adult. Momo's adventures with Aang were as exciting as they were terrifying, and exhausting through and through. Though Momo was Aang's pet, this was not the life of a Domesticated Flying Lemur.
After the war, Momo stayed with Aang, loyal through and through, even as the rest of Team Avatar slowly departed to tend to their own destinies. As Aang's life drifted away from the thrills of combat and more towards politics, Momo was allowed to live the life of a lazy domestic house pet. Sadly, this had come a few too many years late.
The number of fireballs, the high stress levels and the general harships of being with the Avatar had warn the lemur down. Momo became increasingly lethargic whenever he could, opting to sleep most of the day on the softest pillows. This was of course in between stuffing its face with various nuts and fruits Aang and Katara left around the house for him (in a failed attempt to get the aging Lemur moving about.)
His later years were harder. The poor Lemur lost his ability to fly around ten years old, and his sight at twelve. The sicker Momo became, the more Katara tried to heal him, but she only managed to ease the lemur's old age. Momo passed before his thirteenth year.
SUMMING IT ALL UP!
It goes to show you that not all of the heroes move on to greater things. Momo, the most valued member of Team Avatar, retired after he single handedly (with the aid of the Avatar) brought the Hundred Year War to a grinding halt. After giving Zuko his blessing to rule, the only thing for the Lemur to do was to sit back and relax.
His two servants took good care of him for many years, despite often forgetting where to put his food... When the pains started, Katara worked hard to make them go away. When he couldn't fly anymore, he Aang carried him around just like when he was young. When everything went black? He could still feel his loyal servants petting him. Retired life was very rewarding...
