Character question - Soul - 05-26-2017 What to do if I want to create a character who doesn't battle? RE: Character question - Jade Harley - 05-26-2017 Don't do things that will result in a fight, such as gaining a bounty, finding an artefact, or entering any competitive events. Whether or not you enter combat stems from the choices you make! Whether or not you enter combat stems from the choices you make! I am more interested in the venue of making a character. For example, if I wish to play a non-combatant, they won't have stats, proficiencies or moves RE: Character question - Mark - 05-26-2017 (05-26-2017, 01:25 PM)Soul Wrote:(05-26-2017, 01:18 PM)Jade Harley Wrote: Don't do things that will result in a fight, such as gaining a bounty, finding an artefact, or entering any competitive events. Whether or not you enter combat stems from the choices you make! You'd still have to allocate stats and have at least Physical Strength/Ranged Proficiency, even if you never use them. Some players choose to roleplay their characters being weaker than their stats dictate, so there's precedent for it if you want to go that route. That said, a good portion of the content on this site is aimed at combat so that's something to consider if you plan on joining. More on that in the various rule pages. Whether or not you enter combat stems from the choices you make! Stats aren't just combat based. Think of ATK as how strong they are (or how strong their weapons are - but you don't care about that part). DEF as how resistant. Even a non-combatant might have a rock climbing accident, or something similar. SPD as how fast, can they run quickly? TEC as general skill and potentially mental ability. Are they really smart? Do they have a good knowledge of magic? Stats don't have to influence the combat only. But what your character is like in general. That said, if you still think your base stats are too high consider: Quote:Q37: My character fights in a power suit. If I want them to get out of the suit and walk around outside of fights, does that require an alternate form? Simply write down the higher stats you would use if you had to do combat (even if you never plan to) but also write down the generic base ones (a normal human would be 1, 1, 1, 1 - but I'd recommend using at least 5 stat points in total). Then just keep those stats throughout and never go through a "training montage" to increase them - unless you re-decide later. If you describe your character briefly we might be able to help better. RE: Character question - Omni - 05-27-2017 It's not as such that your character has to be a combatant (either liking combat or focusing on it as their job or what have you). It's that they must be capable of fighting, because combat is a common thing on this RPG and you can't refuse to take part in it if, for example, you're cornered and challenged, or you have a bounty (which can be given for things like standing up to the Empire). That's how most IC disputes get solved. You're less likely to get forced into fights if you're avoiding combat and grudges, but that is how we do. Mark is correct in everything he says. I guess it'd be like trying to play a D&D character who is entirely non-combat, or going to Pizza Hut to buy a salad. We love battles so we built a setting where they are frequent and spectacular. If you're not taking part (and most of the large storylines REQUIRE combat), you may feel pretty excluded. We do have other players such as Guu who don't enjoy combat as such, but she still has a number of moves to defend herself should her usual galas and worldbuilding get interrupted by snarky villains. You might want to instead focus your powers on debilitation (making your enemy weak and unable to fight) or support. Both of those still involve taking part in combat. |
