Are you a Bender? - Alex Mercer - 05-21-2017 So I've seen a few of these go around (Monster Tinder and the Digimon Partnering Thread) so I thought I'd put my vast knowledge of the Avatar universe to good use! So here's the deal... I personally like answering questions, it lets you get in the mindset of the character. I've comprised a few categories and some questions within. I'll evaluate each to see what one's mindset, combat style and culture are in comparison to the various Benders. You can be as detailed as you'd like with the answers, to help me get a better idea (and thus a more accurate reading.) Personality:
30 questions is a lot, but if you're willing to answer, I'm willing to read them. (I have no life.) This is mostly for fun, though Aang might be willing to teach bending to a dedicated soul! * A note on this, in the Avatar universe, Rigid form denotes traditional training. Those with rigid forms are often classically trained and usually considered experts of their particular fighting style. Form Fluid is a term used to describe modern fighters that are less trained and try to make up for this by constantly changing the way they fight to combat an enemy. An example, an Earthbender with a Rigid form and Defensive preference is untouchable. Another way to look at this is Rigid forms can lead to particular styles, such as Metalbending - which requires one to be more stubborn than the metal itself (by Toph's description.) Probending is Fluid, while many forms from Legend of Korra were Rigid. I believe this was a big issue because of my the terms used by my instructor, and that sometimes I mix words. Anyone wanting a reevaluation may inbox me and I will edit your post. RE: Are you a Bender? - Marisa Kirisame - 05-21-2017 Chara Personality:

RE: Are you a Bender? - Dane Regan - 05-21-2017 Written as Dane, naturally. Doing this because why the hell not. Personality: 1) I'm not picky. Though meat is good. As is cheese. And sugary foods. And pasta. And rice. And just about anything that isn't a vegetable or mushroom, though I'll eat my greens anyway. 2) Explain to them why they're an idiot, unless they've managed to convince me why I'm wrong. 3) People don't bully me. Or if they do, I don't notice. Words mean nothing. And growing up, those who tried violence never got the chance to repeat an attempt. 4) Not my problem. I don't care. Maybe it'll make them stronger in the long run. 5) Wait... My dad is actually giving me something? Maybe the old bastard finally decided to appreciate me instead of directing all his attention at my useless brother. I guess I'm actually grateful for whatever he's giving me. I don't really care if he dies though. 6) Useless and lucky. He was born with decent magic, and just wasted it. Coasted through magic school. His powers degenerated due to his lack of effort. So, I really don't care about the dude. I put in effort, he didn't. He was born with good magic, and I wasn't. I was forced to war, he wasn't. He's just a lazy drain of resources. 7) They're people. That's it. Some clearly aren't the brightest though. But I tend not to judge until they open their mouth. 8) Autumn. Like spring with less rain, so it's not too hot or cold. 9) Science, Maths, Magic, Books, Combat tactics. 10) Idiots, blind/uninquisitive followers (of me, a church, a leader, of anyone or anything - such as rules), nobility, ivy, mushrooms. Combat: 1) Mix. Switch between both often and randomly. 2) Speed. 3) Lethal 4) Close range. 5) Mobile. Roll with the attacks. 6) Deflect AND dodge. 7) Disengage and revaluate if it can be done safely and speed isn't needed. 8) Sneak attack if possible. Otherwise, openly charge in like an idiot. 9) Fight, unless I'll lose or have better things to do. 10) Really, I shouldn't be in that situation. Depends on the worst case scenario. If I'll die, then leg it. If I'll lose some money, who cares? If someone else will die, keep trying anyway unless I like them (but if they give the go ahead I'll still give it a shot). Culture: 1) Political power, personal freedom, public safety, interactive community. 2) Develop inwards, stabilize, expand outwards, colonize. 3) Honour is an arbitrary set of guidelines for fair combat and war. Such as don't kill civilians or unarmed men who've surrendered. People claim it's benefits as needed, but ignore it's guidelines when they benefit from doing so. It means little. Fair fights don't exist. 4) War is when groups of people fight each other. Usually for land or resources. Sometimes other disagreements. 5) I basically just read books and did combat training at that age, idk. 6) Tavern, brothel. 7) Tavern, brothel. 8) Idk, funerals. Some probably still do the tavern/brothel thing. 9) Stews and such among poor are common. For richer people, roast dinner and various fancy wines I can't remember. 10) People being loyal to their country or homeland. Usually because of their family being there. And growing up there. And knowing little else. RE: Are you a Bender? - Alex Mercer - 05-21-2017 CHARA
![]() You are a Lightning-bender living in Republic City. You are as fierce in battle as you are in personality. Breaking down your results now! Personality defines you as fierce. Very. Fierce. You prefer to ruin your enemies unless they are just too pathetic to care about. This pride is very Firebender, without contest. Your bond to family is like that of Waterbenders, and your sweet tooth is very Airbender-like. Combat wise, you are firebender without contest. The preference for fluid motions and evasion over the Firebender rigid and traditional forms suggests Waterbender. Lightningbenders was first discovered and taught by Iroh, who studied the movements of Waterbenders. Sound familiar? Culture wise, there is a heavy fierceness that is matched by a need for structure and community. Pro-Bending would most likely be a big thing, and the various influences of Bender cultures in Republic City make perfect hangouts for teens and adults alike. RE: Are you a Bender? - Alex Mercer - 05-21-2017 SANS
![]() Waterbender living in Ba Sing Se's outer ring. I would say your personality is close to that of a Waterbender. Why? Waterbenders have strong familial bonds, as seen with your connection to your brother. The indifference with your father is not unique among Waterbenders, as with any family dynamics. The way you shrug off the attempts of a bully on your person is like water off a duck's back, though your odd approach to cracking jokes at another being bullied is very Firebender. Also how you view strangers is very quick and decisive, again like firebending. In combat you have the flow of a Waterbender, but the aggression of a Firebender. You don't mind using a few underhanded tactics, which eliminates most Airbender and Earthbender tactics, and Lethal preference is definitely for the more aggressive elements. Culture is where things flip. This is definitely Earthbender for the most part. Your lack of Honor pulls away from Fire and Water (especially the Northern Tribe). RE: Are you a Bender? - Alex Mercer - 05-21-2017 DANE ![]() You are a Firebender Pro-Bender living in a smaller, poorer city of the Republic Nations. Your personality is focused primarily on you. This is true for both Firebenders and Earthbenders, for various reasons that reach to a much deeper level than most will realize. You have a competitive relationship with your sibling(s) and seem to resent him, possibly giving you drive to surpass him despite being marked as lesser. This is very firebender. Your seclusion from strangers, however, is strongly Earthbender, what with their giant, impenetrable walls. Your combat style puts you squarely in a Firebender's shoes. You like to keep it close, and your stance is more adaptive than most, catering more towards new-age Firebending. You are stupidly-fierce, knowing when to call it quits, but you have standards before you run, adding towards your honor as a firebender. Rising in the defense of someone proves to be the passion that many Firebenders draw upon to increase their offensive power. You have the culture of a mixed variety, and many new-age ideas with old-age biases still lingering. Your culture acknowledges that honor is not all that important and that times can get tough. RE: Are you a Bender? - Alex Mercer - 05-21-2017 Cole Tyson! ![]() You are one of the last survivors of the Airbender Extermination as a Renegade Airbender Personality-wise, you are difficult to place. You have a strong sense of self freedom, improvement, and an appetite to boot. After careful reflection, I believe you are in line with... Airbending! Detaching culture from it, you can shrug off mental abuse, but defend yourself if it gets violent. You are detached from the world, but sometimes you will lend a hand. Your dislikes revolve around disliking one for their personalities, which shows you to see deeper than surface information. The dislike for rules reinforces your desire for freedom. Combat wise is back and forth. Offense and speed suggests Firebender, but your preference for nonlethal damage puts things in a whole new light. Again, this seems to be cut and dry Airbender tactics, if we exclude their passifist culture. Culture again is very remniscent of an Airbender temple. Personal freedom is a big thing for you, and honor is somehting you know well. The abundance of meat is the biggest downfall. RE: Are you a Bender? - Weiss Schnee - 05-21-2017 Personality: Top five foods? Crepes, banana cream pie, Pumpkin Pete's marshmallow Cereal, Apples, and turkey. Someone disagrees with you. How do you respond? I first try and defend my position, and then if they're just completely unreasonable, I leave the conversation. How do you react if you are being bullied? I try and fight against them as best I can. How do you react if someone else is being bullied? I try to defend the poor person who's being attacked. Your father is on his death bed. You know you are in his will to inherit something great. How do you feel? ... This question hits a little too close to home. Mixed. How do you regard your sibling? Winter? She's great! She's an incredibly skilled huntress with an amazing balance of strength and skill! I hope to be more like her one day! Wheatley?... What a little rat. How do you feel about strangers? They can't actually be that much worse than the people I know - but I'd still rather be left alone. What is your favorite season and why? Winter - something about it just connects to me. it does cause the name puns to increase, though. Top five random things you like? My old team, my old Job, My sister, my sword, and my clothes Top five random things you dislike? My current "instructor", My current team, my current job, my brother, my mask, and Ice puns. Sneak attack, sneak around or openly engage? Sneak attack Fight or flee? fight Response to overwhelming odds? Figure out the easiest way to deal with the fewest opponents at a time, then take the initiative in engaging. RE: Are you a Bender? - Alex Mercer - 05-21-2017 Weiss Shnee ![]() You are a Waterbender living in a renewed Airbender Temple. You definitely have the Airbender's sweet tooth, and your connection to winter and your elder sister suggests Waterbender. Your ability to both defend and avoid is fluid as water, furthering this connection. Otherwise, your personality is pretty neutral and capable of fitting into the niche of most elements. Your fighting style is cut and dry Waterbending style. Maybe I should say "wet?" Then agian, maybe not. Your hesitation to use lethal force means you may lean towards using water more, but you are capable of ice blades and spears if it comes to that. Fully capable of defense and offense, your preference to one of the other being so slight and the fact that you also take to counter-attacking is truly in line with Waterbending. Your culture's desire to branch out, then stabalizing these branches has an Airbender feel to it, and the reluctance to war suggests that the colonies are not taking land, as Fire Nation would. In general, your culture is Airbender, with age leading towards more Earthbender material goals. RE: Are you a Bender? - Gamzee Makara - 05-21-2017 Personality: Top five foods? - "Maaaaan I like all the foods, dudes. Prolly like Pizza, Slime Pie (think of it as a pie with copious amounts of alcohol/marijuana in it), ice cream, funnel cake, and uhhhh man i dunno I guess I likes crawfish too. Does faygo count?" Someone disagrees with you. How do you respond? - "I'm all about the peacemakin' and chillin'. If they wanna disagree with me that's their right, bro. I usually just let the argument go, ain't no point in fightin' about it." How do you react if you are being bullied? - "Aw I can't imagine anyone ever tryna be that mean yaknow? Either way, I'd probably just laugh it off or try to share a faygo with 'em. Motherfuckers need to learn to chill." (Either Gamzee wouldn't even realize its happening or he'd try to make friends.) How do you react if someone else is being bullied? - "Oh I'd stick up for the lil guy sure 'nuff. I'd comfort him and shit, tell him not to worry himself too much." Your father is on his death bed. You know you are in his will to inherit something great. How do you feel? - "Well like, i was kinda there when my dad died. It felt pretty shitty, even though he wasn't the best dad. And I didn't really inherit anything then. I can't imagine how getting something out of his dyin' would make me feel any better." How do you regard your sibling? - "Maaaaaan closest thing I got to a sibling is my best bros and sisters. But in a sense dude, we're all brothers in sisters. We gotta look out for one another." How do you feel about strangers? - "I don't know the meaning of the word!" :o) What is your favorite season and why? "I likes all the seasons, man. Miracles, all six of them. Prolly spring though, cuz that's when everything is bloomin' and pretty and carnivals are starting up and yeeeaaah. It's that time when miracles and everything else pretty kinda starts to grow or get created. Plus I kinda always liked the rain." (Yeah side note trolls live underground and the only rain they get is acidic.) Top five random things you like? "My friends, the circus, rap-offs and other forms of slam poetry, baking, and pretty flashing neon colors of all kinds." :o) Top five random things you dislike? "Bad vibes, bad rhymes, meanness and rudeness for no reason, flat soda, and sadness." (In any capacity) Combat: Offense or Defense? - "Oh I'm all about the beatin' shit up." Speed or Power? - "I mean...both? Is that an option?" (Honestly not sure, but probably more power than speed. Not by much though. He wouldn't sacrifice speed for more power though, if that makes sense? Sorry, really not sure on this one.) Lethal or Nonlethal? - "Brah that's a tough question like, you on some serious deep level shit here. Maaaan I guess killin' is necessary for the most part, but i guess it really just depends on what kind of mood I'm in." Long, medium or close range? - "Either up close and personal or from way on back, there is no in between." Rigid stance, or mobile stance? - "Oh I love to be turning motherfuckin' flips and shit when I fight, give the crowd something to look at I guess. Also it's fun just to see the dudes face when I pull off an acrobatic motherfucking pirouette that lands on his face." Block or evade? - "Evade, most definitely. See above." If struck, counter-strike or disengage and reevaluate? - "Hit that motherfucker right back dude! Shit, I can take it. Usually. Those that dish out can't take or some such shittery." Sneak attack, sneak around or openly engage? - "Ahhh I dunno. Sneaking around is fun, and if you can land the sneak attack sure, but there ain't no point in trying to hide after that. All three, I guess, but never more than once." ;o) Fight or flee? - "Ah well I guess it depends on whats at stake. I suppose for the most part fight. Besides, we all respawn and shit anyways, what's the point in running, amirite? I guess I'd flee if it benefited me or my friends in the long run, but I don't see how. Like I said: respawn, amirite? Response to overwhelming odds? :o) "Uhhh....Overwhelming evens?" (Gamzee probably wouldn't care.) Culture: (Okay i feel pretty dumb but I wasn't sure if the first two were Gamzee's beliefs or his culture's beliefs, so I put his numbers in purple and the culture's in black.) Arrange the following by priority: (1)(5)Political power, (4)(1)personal freedom, (2)(3)public safety, (3)(2)interactive community Arrange the following by priority: (2)(4)Expand outwards, (4)(1)develop inwards, (1)(3)colonize, (3)(2)stabilize Describe your definition of "Honor" - "Again with the deep shit, huh? I guess I'd say just treat people the way you'd like to be treated you know? Just being a decent person. I don't really think it has anything to do with fightin', despite what some people say." What does "War" mean to you? - "I uh...wow. I dunno man. Just a bunch of people that think they got power trying to get more of something they don't have. And usually it's the little guys that catch the worst of it. Even if their side wins, they're still losing. They don't get shit out of it. War ain't a miracle. Shit's not right." What would you consider a popular hangout for teenagers? (14-17 ish) Their houses, on their laptops and such communicating with their fellows and practicing their hobbies. Beaches and sparring arenas are also popular on Alternia, Gamzee's home planet. What would you consider a popular hangout for young adults (18-30 ish) Their work domiciles. Most adults just go home, do their jobs, and then go home to do the things the teens do. There's not much difference in responsibilities and such between the ages. The only thing required of older Trolls is to reproduce, really. There are certain amenities like bars, movie theatres, restaurants, and the like. Not all citizens can afford these though. It's a caste system, if that says anything. The lower cast couldn't afford a lot of this stuff. Gamzee himself is significantly high in the caste, as his bloodline actually holds some power, but he certainly doesn't act like it. What would you consider a popular hangout for middle aged adults? See above. Most trolls don't live this long, to be honest, unless they are of significant or royal bloodlines. The weak tend to die and all that. What would you consider a popular hangout for the elderly? (61 and over) See above. Describe your culture's food and drink of preference (alcohol included, but not necessary) - Gamzee, and possibly other trolls, indulge in a substance known as Sopor Slime. Which is Alternia's equivalent to Alcohol/Marijuana. It inflicts a torpor of the mind, one could say. Many trolls are also somewhat fond of a soda known as Faygo(real life drink btw), which comes in many different fruit flavors. Other food includes Beefgrub, which is a type of insectoid livestock native to Alternia. It's the equivalent of a cow, and may be prepared as a steak and what have you. Define Patriotic. "...Nah. I'm good." Gamzee quite literally could care less about patriotism. He has a high rank in his society and blatantly denies it, much preferring personal freedom and loyalty to his friends. Sweets are my favorite, though-- especially strawberry-flavored stuff. Steak, beer, ink, fries, pretty much any kind of meat. Someone disagrees with you. How do you respond? I don't care about being right, so probably nothing. I'd drive the fact that they're wrong into their thick skull until they yield. How do you react if you are being bullied? Ignore it. If it's physical, though, I'll fight back. I'd probably be the bully. How do you react if someone else is being bullied? I'd defend them. Join up with the bully. Unless that victim was a friend of mine. In that case, I'd beat the everliving tar out of the bully. Your father is on his death bed. You know you are in his will to inherit something great. How do you feel? ...I don't remember my father. But I don't think it'd change much. I'd be pretty upset that he's dying. The closest thing I have to a father is Joey. So I'd be completely ecstatic! Killing two birds with one stone, am I right? How do you regard your sibling? I don't have any that I'm aware of. Boris is like a brother to me. And I absolutely love him! I have no idea what I'd do if he died... again. How do you feel about strangers? You do you, I'll do me. Don't reach out too far to befriend me and we'll be fine. They are things to be manipulated. What is your favorite season and why? Winter, because it's mysterious and beautiful. And also because people are usually inside and not bothering me. Summer, when a lot of responsibilities are temporarily lifted so we can party! Top five random things you like? Sleeping, food, indie music, the dark, and the creepy. Swingin' jazz, a good fight, satire, revenge, and a good ol' night on the town. Top five random things you dislike? Loud noises, people invading my privacy, crowds, being trapped, and having my trust betrayed. People hiding stuff from me, my creators, religious people, not being in control, and boredom. Combat: Offense or Defense? Do I look like someone who can take a punch? Depends, but I prefer offense. Speed or Power? Speed. Why not both? Lethal or Nonlethal? If I'm fighting someone, I'm usually trying to stop them. I'll do whatever is needed, even if I feel bad about it afterwards. What's the point of a fight if no one dies? Long, medium or close range? Mostly close ranged, but I can do medium range. I'm fine with any of them! Rigid stance, or mobile stance? I need to stay limber. Rigid isn't in a cartoon's dictionary. Block or evade? I can't block at all. Either or. If struck, counter-strike or disengage and reevaluate? I only counter if I know I can land it effectively. PUNCH BACK! Sneak attack, sneak around or openly engage? Sneak attack. If you haven't guessed by now, I'm not subtle at all. Fight or flee? I'm not dying unless it's truly something I'd believe in. Bring it on! Response to overwhelming odds? Take baby steps in bringing the problem down to something manageable. Never tell me the odds! Out and about, having adventures. What would you consider a popular hangout for young adults (18-30 ish) I... don't know. There's a club that Hiro likes to go to though. Becky's Grill and Bar. What would you consider a popular hangout for middle aged adults? (31-60-ish) I don't even know anyone that old. Except for the people running the Blue Moon Cafe. See my above answer. What would you consider a popular hangout for the elderly? (61 and over) I actually don't know anyone that old. Don't know, don't care. Describe your culture's food and drink of preference (alcohol included, but not necessary) No clue at the moment. Classic city food, buddy. If you find it in New York, you'd find it here. Define Patriotic. Fighting for something you believe in, no matter the cost. I... actually agree with Maddy here. RE: Are you a Bender? - Malon - 05-22-2017 Hmm, let's start with Malon! I might do my other two characters soon as well. Personality: Top five foods? "Riceballs, Steamed Hylian vegetables, Roasted fish, Cinnamon-Apple Pie and Curry dishes. No particular order." Someone disagrees with you. How do you respond? "I listen to their point and then tell them what my opinion on that is, so long as they can be reasoned with. There's rarely just a single correct point." How do you react if you are being bullied? "If it's not too bad, I let the storm pass. If it is, I plan sneaky revenge." How do you react if someone else is being bullied? "If they're not one to deserve it (like if they'd be a bully themselves) I interfere from behind. A good literal asskick will shut 'im up." Your father is on his death bed. You know you are in his will to inherit something great. How do you feel? "Why would I care about who inherits what? This is my dad dying here!" How do you regard your sibling? "If I had any I'd love them dearly." How do you feel about strangers? "Kinda depends on their behavior, but I'm open to meeting new people." What is your favorite season and why? "Spring, because everything blooms and is green and... or summer, because it's warm and sunny? Or maybe fall because of the beautiful leaves and the delicious apples? Well, at least it's not winter, because you can't plant crops and the farm animals don't go outside as much." Top five random things you like? "Horses, cuccoos, cows singing and farming." Top five random things you dislike? "Ganondorf, Zombies, Oktoroks, lazy people, generally "evil" people. Ganondorf would fall under that category." Combat: Offense or Defense? "Hmm... defense. Better avoid hurting people." Speed or Power? "Speed, all the way." Lethal or Nonlethal? "Nonlethal." Long, medium or close range? "Close range." Rigid stance, or mobile stance? "Mobile stance, I like to move around." Block or evade? "Evade." If struck, counter-strike or disengage and reevaluate? "Disengage!" Sneak attack, sneak around or openly engage? "Sneak around, or sneak attack if that's not possible." Fight or flee? "Flee. Not because I'm weak but because I don't want to kill unnecessarily." Response to overwhelming odds? "Escape, sneak and hide. What's the point in even trying?" Culture: Arrange the following by priority: Political power, personal freedom, public safety, interactive community "Uhh... interactive community, personal freedom, public safety, political power." Arrange the following by priority: Expand outwards, develop inwards, colonize, stabalize "Stabilize, develop inwards, colonize, expand outwards." Describe your definition of "Honor" "To have good reputation in social regards, I guess. Being honest, standing up for yourself, keeping your promises, that sort of thing. Though some people take honor to the point of foolishness." What does "War" mean to you? "It's a bigger, badder version of a quarrel between two people, except that these people are kings who command armies and have them kill each other to defend their point. Even worse if the kings are power-hungry or start a war for some other petty reason. The ones who suffer worst are the commoners. It's never a good thing for anyone. Not even for the winners." What would you consider a popular hangout for teenagers? (14-17 ish) "The open plains, the forest, Lake Hylia... nature in general!" What would you consider a popular hangout for young adults (18-30 ish) "Nature in general, like for kids." What would you consider a popular hangout for middle aged adults? (31-60-ish) "Town centers? Iunno." What would you consider a popular hangout for the elderly? (61 and over) "Somewhere comfy and protected... like say at home, or the plaza of a town." Describe your culture's food and drink of preference (alcohol included, but not necessary) "We kind of eat everything - meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. Hyrule gets a lot of influx from other cultures like the Zora and the Gerudos so we have a wide variety of foods and drinks, but Hylians tend to eat more fish and animal products than meat." Define Patriotic. "Someone who thinks that their country is better than the others simply because they were born or raised in that country. I find it to be a dumb thing to think, really." RE: Are you a Bender? - Alex Mercer - 05-22-2017 BALLAD ![]() You are a Lava Bender in the Northern Water Tribe during the 100 year war. Personality wise, your enjoyment of winter is Waterbender, but everything else in combination has a strong Earthbender feel. You are protective, defensive, and may not be the first to throw a punch - but you try to be the last. You are not terribly fond of strangers, but once someone gets close they become as good as family. Combat wise, you again resemble an Earthbender. Your technique is fiery indeed, and oddly fluid, but your need for power and offense suggests crushing force - but your inclination towards blocking and the stubborness in the face of overwhelming odds definitely places you in the mindset of the steady Earthbender. Your culture suggests a very cold climate, putting it closer to the northern or southern water tribes. The arrangement of priorities, however, suggests a pre-revolutionized Ba Sing Se. Placing the culture was difficult, however, but the heavy cold seems to be an overarching common. |
