Omniverse News Network - Digimon - Enel - 05-12-2017 “I don’t agree at all. Grey jedi? That would be … no. Luke Skywalker’s gonna save the day, and it’s just … they say that, you know? They say ‘Last Jedi’ but there’s no way he’s gonna be the last Jedi.” The stage lights up, revealing Ron Burgundy and a panel of guests. “Oh hi! Welcome to Omniverse News Network. My name’s Ron Burgundy and today, we have a special feature for you.” The camera pans over to a dramatic shot of a large, skull-helmeted dinosaur rearing his head back, and then spitting a ball of fire from its mouth. The shot freezes. “They’re called, ‘Digimon’, and they’re the newest craze in Imperial Coruscant.” The camera flashes to the merry streets of Coruscant, where several people are walking with smaller Digimon on leashes. An girl with thick-rimmed black glasses and purple hair takes the shot. “I love Digimon! They’re like that other monster, Pokémon? Except, like, way better. Kyokyomon, speak!” She looks down at a yellow, dragon-like being only a foot in height, held by a leash. The camera pans to it. The small beast just looks at the camera for a moment. Then, in a tired voice: “My name’s Kyokyomon. Nice to meet you.” The girl screams. “Isn’t he cute?!” “And they’re not just pets either.” The camera whizzes to a construction site, a man wearing a yellow helmet and overalls smiles at the camera. “Yeah, Kenkimon has been a real help. Isn’t that right, Kenkimon?” We pan to what looks like a large forklift at first glance, but whose face takes a quirky grin upon meeting the camera. Its voice is strangely digitized. “Yeah right, I do all the work around here!” The man laughs. “Shut up, you!” “But it’s not all smiles and sunshine.” We whizz to a woman wiping tears from her eyes. “We got the egg from online … we thought it would be a lovely gift for our daughter.” The camera pans over a picture of a young girl, with black hair and a sour expression. The picture turns black-and-white, and we see a picture of a sinister-looking blob of a Digimon with narrow eyes and two wings for ears. It’s kinda cute. “We thought it might bring her out of her shell …” “But with a monster living in the house, things only got worse for the Dogbites.” The camera continues to zoom in uncomfortably close to the woman’s face as she speaks. “She got … withdrawn. And the further she got from us …” “The Digimon began to take on new shapes. Until finally, one day, A shocking sound effect plays as we see the image of a violent-looking ghost. “It turned on its masters.” The woman sobs. “We never knew! All the kids had them, we thought they were safe!” We return to the studio. Ron raises his eyebrows at the camera. “Shocking news.” He turns to his right, where sits a green alien with large eyes and a swollen, veiny head. “Morbo, what are your thoughts?” “Morbo thinks this is good. Let the humans take their pets and be consumed wholesale. We will be the last ones standing in this! OMNIVERSE!” Ron laughs. “Wow. You heard it here first, folks. We’ve even heard …” he turns to his left. “That people are heading to the Digimon world to find more of these elusive creatures, is that correct?” A brown-skinned woman shuffles her papers. “That’s right Ron. As these Digimon have gotten more popular over time, we’ve seen the demand on Dataverse sites like OMazon go through the roof. It’s no wonder bounty hunters are flocking to the digital world in order to find more of these.” “But this market, is this strictly … legal?” Ron asks. “Well, at the moment the Dataverse is in a grey area. Most of the professional sites and sub-worlds are Coruscant-based, which puts them into the Empire’s law and jurisdiction. But File Island, the home of the Digimon, is a neutral zone. That means anyone can legally take Digimon eggs. Whether we’ll see new regulations come into place to limit the import of these creatures,” she tilts her head, “It’s too soon to say.” The camera turns back to Ron, who turns his palms up and raises his eyebrows as he looks toward the viewers. “Digital monsters, pocket monsters, duel monsters. What’s next, monster,” he half-laugh half-snorts, “Girls?” He looks deep into the camera. “Hook me up.” Quote:With the surge of popularity in Digimon, Digimon eggs can be found being bought and sold all over Imperial markets, and even being traded in some rural markets. The Digimon themselves aren’t too happy about this, and you’ll find a visit to File Island to be a … hostile one. However, should you make your way there, you’ll find your own Digimon partner, or alternately, you might acquire an egg through an alternate source (for example intercepting a cart of eggs brought by poachers, or simply purchasing an egg off the Dataverse). |
