More Secondary locations? Interest check - Amaterasu - 03-24-2017 For those who don't know, a while ago a number of us did a 'project' called Windfall Island, which involved a number of Secondaries inhabiting an island in the Vasty Deep with no real storyline, just for fun. While it's more or less dead at this point, I feel like it could have worked out better, and I want to ask if anyone is interested in trying this again, with a different scene! To improve the 'flow' and the longevity of the thread I would suggest limiting the number of participating players to prevent excessive jumbling, and opening the locations for non-participant players to join in. Of course, if anyone has improvement ideas and wants to provide feedback on what they believe was good or bad with the Windfall Island thread, don't hesitate to speak up! A few potential ideas (and by all means, feel free to bring in your own!)
-A location in the middle tiers in Coruscant somewhere - a factory, warehouse, laboratory, cheap cantina or other 'workplace', staffed by sentient robots. -A lively bar along some crossroads, in Camelot. -Bandits or thieves inhabiting a small hideout from which they plan their heists. -Hunters and trappers (maybe poachers?) hunting animals for meat and hides, and selling them for a living. -Some other nomad community (Exiles? Graverobbing necromancers? Sheperds looking for greener pastures?) moving through a verse -In the dwarven or troll settlements of the Frozen Fields, a combat ring or small-scale colosseum acting as 'proving grounds' or for the enjoyment of the spectators. And one that's into a slightly different direction: -A group of NPCs for a 'mini' secondary saga who are forced to leave their native verse to move to a different one, for any reason. This could possibly be Secondaries whose homes were destroyed during the events of Darkshire and who consequently seek to start a new life somewhere in Camelot, Coruscant or elsewhere. This would be a finite thread, at the end of which our characters each go their own way and are for you to use as you see fit. Think of it as a character-development storyline.
RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Skeletor - 03-24-2017 I've been looking to use one of my secondaries (the one who would have been my entry for Secondary Saga II before it fell through.) He's a Camelot scout. I don't know that I'd be able to do anything with this right now, (between Dark Data once it gets started, and college being just about as bad as it can be) but if there's something happening this summer I would totally be down for it. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Dawnika Snow - 03-24-2017 I mean, I have a lot of threads going, but I could handle more cause I love burdening myself. The problem is I avoid big groups, only like to roleplay with 2 or 3 peeps at once. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Zack Fair - 03-24-2017 Like I said to you before, some sort of event or minisaga is probably needed to get things rolling, and establish some sort of connection between the characters before we slow into the "slice of life" stuff. That said, I'm pretty much maxed out around here so I cant do much with this one anyway. RE: More Secondary locations? This is an extremely good point. Zack, you have a beautiful mind. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Beta Ray Bill - 03-24-2017 I am intrested in doing this. Doom might create a Doombot and the Doombot would end joining in on this. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Luci - 03-24-2017 there is nothing i don't love about this thread RE: More Secondary locations? Hmm, good points. I really should go back through the interest-check thread for Windfall Island, I keep forgetting that there's a number of wisdom-nuggets hidden in there. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Jams Bolero - 03-27-2017 I had the idea of a western town in the dunes, where a bunch of characters would settle down and try to live a (relatively) normal life in such a hostile verse. It's not like nobody can defend themselves though, it's expected and preferred that everyone in town has a gun or something, but it's kinda just a western town that tries to bring some law to a lawless land. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Handsome Jack - 03-27-2017 I might be interested in this. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Luci - 03-27-2017 So this thread been in my mind lately. Here are some thoughts on a location, just in case one of them is super awesome. 1. Bikini Bottom (The Vasty Deeps) - An underwater city of anthropomorphic sea critters based on the city from the phenomenon Spongebob Squarepants. Although the original tone is wacky and cartoony, who knows what direction we would take it. 2. The Mad Hatters Tea Party (The Astral Realm)- Every night, the Mad Hatter hosts a tea party in the Astral Realm. He is well known for loosing his temper, especially if he suspects someone of stealing his beloved tarts. It has become something of a tradition among his regular attendees to steal the Hatter's tarts and then return them at the end of the tea party, somewhat like a murder-mystery dinner theater. I'm thinking this would be a one-thread thing, where we do a real locked-door mystery thing, I think there might be an issue using Madhatter as he is a cannon dewd; perhaps mods will be cool about it. 3. The War on Christmas (The Frozen Feilds)- In the Northiest part of the Frozen Feilds is a workshop manned by elven refugees. They fled from the Tangled Green into the Frozen Fields in search of a legendary patron of elves, and in the Northiest part of the Frozen Fields, they found her. Ashley Claus, Princess of the North Pole, gave the elves shelter and food, and in gratitude, they toil ceaselessly to make the toys that she delivers to children throughout the Omniverse every day of the year. They are a lively and happy community, but they have enemies; a slender green orc known only as The Grinch prowls the wastelands at night, snatching elves and gobbling them up. Lately, strange deformed creatures with green fur have been making attacks on their settlement. The elves whisper that the Grinch is building an army. RE: More Secondary locations? And the Dunes, while I am not all that experienced with them, sound like a very difficult verse for Secondaries who cannot rely on Omnilium conversion to survive. Those last two sound like they could be made into events of their own, actually. The Mad Hatters thing could be reworked into having only OCs - the Astral Realm is crazy enough to have all sorts of weird creatures. A small event may be better than a slice of life-esque thread, but I'd rather wait out Dark Data and Dante's Abyss before doing any such thing. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Tearen Wover - 03-30-2017 The Institute is planning on organizing mining operations in the Ashen Steppes once its reestablished. Sort of a Rock Raiders/Minecraft vibe to it. This could be a place for grizzled secondaries with nowhere else to go. Tearen believes that everyone has a chance to redeem themselves. Monsters and Prospecting and Drilling oh my! RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Amaterasu - 05-03-2017 Well! Based on a few of the ideas that I have shamelessly stolen inspired myself to from the other suggestions here in the thread, as well as personal ideas, I have concocted a few ideas! These are designed for small groups of 2-3, maximum 4 people, but if you want to go bigger, feel free to make your own thread. The ideas are going to be about our characters having a finite goal to work towards - once that is reached, if they're not all dead, it's up to you what happens with them. A Starcraft Drone, Probe and/or (Infested?) SCV walk into a bar could gather in one of the more barren worlds, aiming to establish a base. It could be a Zerg Drone that believes the Ashen Steppes to be Char or a similar planet and forms a Hatchery from which to send out zerg, using infested SCVs or reprogrammed Probes to enhance the Swarm's capabilities with terran or Protoss units. Warning: Unless at least one character is an NPC Prime, this idea is tricky because forming structures and hatching secondaries should not be a "workaround" to dodge the Omnilium summoning rules. Credit to Dark Link for this idea! In Coruscant, stranded in the Vasty Deep or the Endless Dunes a group of autonomous robots made by the Empire are activated. Their mission is to gather some intel, to establish an outpost for imperial units or to bring back an item or materials of some description before reporting back to their superiors. The Ashen Steppes sees a semi-organized mining operation going on. A deposit of valuable metal (perhaps raw, high-concentration Omnilium?) has been discovered and is to be mined out, if only it wasn't for the hostile wildlife that isn't welcoming outsiders. Credit to Tearen for this idea! The most stock of all stock scene ideas: a pack of wolves. For this a small number of players would each control 2-3 wolves which have a "mental link" between them that allows for communication at a greater level than barking and growling. One or two of the wolves have been infected with the Blight by an unfortunate accident, and what's worse is that either the infected are indispensable to the pack (the only females, maybe?) or the Blight is spreading through the mental link, threatening to kill them all. Their only hope is to make it to Yggdrasil, where the nature-loving elves may be able to cure the horrible curse before it claims their lives. And a slightly different idea for those among you who want to introduce new secondaries to your roster in a creative way: A group of secondaries wakes up among the remains of a camp. There's a burnt-out fire, holes where tent stakes were once, bones belonging to animals and so on. They have been left to die here after being robbed and injured by bandits, and must make it back to civilization while surviving the harsh nature. Camelot would obviously be far easier to survive than the Endless Dunes or the Frozen Fields, but most verses should be fair game! If anyone is interested in any of these, say the word. Perhaps we can set something in motion! RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Dell Conagher - 05-03-2017 I'd be interested in the SC2 idea. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Luci - 05-03-2017 I like the robots idea the best, for sure. Glad to see this thread. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - The Vision - 05-04-2017 Ooh I get to dump my ideas: The Factory [Source: SCP] (somewhere in Coruscant) Rumors around the middle tiers say there's a haunted toy factory run by a person who calls themselves Dr. Wondertainment. You heard that right - haunted but not abandoned. These toys are supposedly disturbingly alive, both in the sense that there are toys that should not be living things and living things that should not be toys. Anyone who enters the Factory, it's said, should brace themselves for one horrifying freak show. Similarly... Ludibrium [Source:....Maplestory... and Toy Story] (Unsure, Coruscant maybe?) A village full of toys, lead by Sheriff Woody and Deputy Lightyear. You have to shrink down using a shrink ray near the town to enter the toy set. They're easygoing, since they're, you know, toys. Yoshi's Island [Source: Mario] (Vasty Deep) It's a peaceful little island. Its natives are dinosaur-like creatures called Yoshi, who have the disposition of highly intelligent talking puppies. Highly defensive of their young, though, and they will use their infamous inescapably stick tongues and eat you, laying you as a Yoshi's Egg. These "eggs" are highly nutritious once the victim has been cocooned long enough. In other words, be extremely nice to them. They have no political affiliations or rivalries, but the Koopa Kingdom hates them. I don't know if I'm on the right track for this though. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Amaterasu - 05-04-2017 (05-04-2017, 04:40 AM)The Vision Wrote: Ooh I get to dump my ideas: The Factory one, and to some extent Yoshi's Island would be feasible, since the characters are generic enough. But the Ludibrium one... unless Woody and Buzz get to be Site NPCs it wouldn't be possible since they are too unique. What we're looking for is characters who are full OCs, or generic enough that it's not a problem to draw them from the setting. For instance, even if 10 people played as a Yoshi, someone could still make Yoshi the Prime. However, Buzz Lightyear is a unique character. Also, I think that "mini sagas" with a set goal would be better than indefinite slice-of-life settings at least until I figure out how to keep people interested. That's what was the problem with Windfall Island. RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - The Vision - 05-04-2017 Then I suppose we could have a person disappear in the Factory and we have to retrieve that person? RE: More Secondary locations? Interest check - Hiro Protagonist - 05-04-2017 I'm with Amms on the idea of running mini secondary adventures. I'm also SUUUPER down with running The Factory, but with something like that, someone would have to take a "GM" role. |
