HTTPS? - Artoria Pendragon - 02-13-2018

I asked this once before, and I'll ask it again, this time a bit more insistently.

Why, in lord's year of 2018, do we not have HTTPS here, on the site?
With services like Let's Encrypt, it's easier and cheaper (free), than ever before.
So I ask thee, why do we not have one of the most basic functions of internet browsing, in 2018?

RE: HTTPS? - Reece - 02-13-2018

Does it matter?

RE: HTTPS? - Artoria Pendragon - 02-13-2018

Yes, privacy and internet security matters.

RE: HTTPS? - Amaterasu - 02-13-2018

From what I remember, Greggo is worried that the site's code can't be copy-pasted to HTTPS format without potentially messing things up. With nonstandard things like the OM and RP calculator a transition wouldn't be easy.

RE: HTTPS? - Artoria Pendragon - 02-13-2018

Never know until you try, 'n whatnot. I'd say it's worth an attempt.

RE: HTTPS? - Reece - 02-13-2018

Eh. I'd say you're gettin' worked up over nothin', mate.

RE: HTTPS? - Artoria Pendragon - 02-13-2018

And to add to Reece.

In the event that you're too lazy to read up on the subject, have one on me. Googling shall give ye more material, naturally.

RE: HTTPS? - Artoria Pendragon - 02-13-2018

Privacy and security, as well as integrity and being shielded against attacks that take advantage of the lack of it is hardly being "worked up over nothing."

It's a matter that is baseline on practically all websites. I don't see why we should be any different.
Especially when we've come far enough that the world has awoken to the need of it enough, that there are indeed services like Let's Encrypt, whom will grant legitimate certificates, free of charge.
Whether you like it or not, SSL-certificates and HTTPS is the baseline by now, regardless of whether the site handles sensitive data, or our creative writing (and email addresses and passwords, ohay! Sensitive data!)

RE: HTTPS? - Reece - 02-13-2018

Meh.

RE: HTTPS? - Alex - 02-13-2018

Hey, Reece, if you're not going to add anything constructive, you don't need to reply. I don't know if your trying to kind of come off like a jag, but at least on my end, it seems like you are, bud.

As for the OP -- I think it's known by most people that Omni intends to shift hosts at some point in the future. I'm not sure how https varies from http in terms of the hosting/ownership end of a url/webpage. Perhaps it's something he can easily do when he switches hosts for the Omniverse. Until that point, unless this is something free that he can do with minimal headaches on his end, he likely won't want to do it. You're more than welcome to wait and see if he catches + replies to this thread, but if this is something that concerns you, I'd recommend you just send him a message directly.

RE: HTTPS? - Omni - 02-14-2018

I'll take a look at this when we move hosts, which is something I should get around to this year.

RE: HTTPS? - Sasuke Uchiha - 03-18-2018

That's great Omni. The sooner the better, because I do believe this issue effects the site's SEO and I know you have put in some good work in that regard so far.

RE: HTTPS? - Trixie - 03-18-2018

Necro thread is necro'd.

EDIT: As there isn't anything more to add to this discussion I'm locking this thread. The staff are aware of your concerns and any further discussion would be repeating everything already stated.
