3rd Character Deliberations - Illidan Stormrage - 11-15-2016

Though I'm a good few months away at least, I've already been considering my third character for a few months. To give you an idea of why I'm considering so early, here are all my character switches to date:

1st character: Link -> Illidan
2nd character: Ditto -> Lich King -> Ditto -> Udyr -> Illidan -> Ditto -> Jim Raynor

So yeah. Don't wanna do that anymore.

After considering a fair few contenders, I've narrowed it down to three. They're listed in rough order of my desire to play them at the moment, though all three have been number one at one point and it may change in the future (hence all the thinking). My general theme for the third character is evil; they're all one form or another.

1) Gengar

Gengar is my top choice at the moment because of the freedom I would have designing him. With a lot of cool powers and potential powers, there's lots of room for creativity. Personality-wise, Gengar would be more of a prankster, preying on people's fear for his own amusement. That would definitely involve killing in some cases, but he's ultimately out for a laugh at someone else's expense. Plus he wouldn't take things very seriously, so a chance to play a goofball. I already have a backstory; he's the Gengar of the Elite Four's Agatha, and after she passed on, Gengar's set free, and then taken into the Omniverse.

Pros: Custom OC, cool powers, fun personality to write, fight scenes would be more creative/less conventional
Cons: Not super evil, some powers might be too similar to Illidan

2) Cell

DBZ being one of my favourite shows of all time, and Cell being my favourite villain of the show, it seems like a no-brainer. Cell has lots of powers and techniques to draw on, while having a fairly strong goal (ie. absorb androids) to help develop his initial direction. He'd be fun to write since he has no remorse, and has that creepy, unflappable confidence that is lots of fun to flesh out. Would be taken after his death at Gohan's hands.

Pros: Evil unrestrained, lots of powers, can drink people with his tail, writing fight scenes would be awesome
Cons: OM-expensive, might not have a lot of opportunity to fight DBZ-style

3) Venom (Symbiote)

Probably the most evil of the three. Venom would generally stay bonded to a NPC, taking full control of them, but I wouldn't use any specific Venom host from the series as I feel that constrains the character too much. The big draw here is Symbiosis; Venom would ideally bond to a lot of Primes, and creating Venom versions of people would be a lot of fun. Plus he can learn new techniques from Primes he binds to (ie. I buy with OM those moves that Venom 'takes') and maybe corrupt some good guys with bloodlust? Who knows.

Pros: Cool powers, savage and selfish, relying on fusion would be a cool twist
Cons: May have trouble forging an identity with lots of different fusions, I don't know Venom's history as well as the first two

Take your pick! Who sounds the best?

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Amaterasu - 11-15-2016

My vote is on Gengar, as it's a Pokemon I particularly like and Cell... not too sure but I don't really like the DBZ villains, besides maybe Buu. I'm not too familiar with them though. Can't say anything about Venom. Gengar could also have the potential to become a true evil character, rather than a prankster evildoer.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Alex - 11-15-2016

Venom.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Sarah Kerrigan - 11-15-2016

also gotta go with venom, tbh. I'd love to see what you can do with the symbiote

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Hiro Protagonist - 11-15-2016

Cell, definitely. You have a lot of built in opportunity, with Alex playing 17 and Dr Gero being a Coruscant NPC. Not to mention we also have a goku albeit a Goku from when he killed frieza.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Blackfire - 11-15-2016

Good choices! I have a soft spot for Vemon though. Dude is bad to the bone and I know you'll do the symbiont justice.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Omni - 11-15-2016

I'm partial to Ditto Genjar but seriously ditto

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Jade Harley - 11-16-2016

Yeahhhhhh, Venom!

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Mark - 11-16-2016

All three are excellent choices but I'd love to see Venom.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Illidan Stormrage - 11-18-2016

Lots of love for Venom! Atm my thinking is less about Cell and more between Gengar and Venom, but still considering.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Jack Darby - 11-18-2016

V to the E to the N to the O to the M.

What's that spell?

VENOM!

Venom Yeah!

Do Venom!

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Beta Ray Bill - 11-19-2016

You Should totally do Venom.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Illidan Stormrage - 01-07-2017

Kinda losing interest in Venom. Gengar is still surviving and Im now considering Batman. I think running a double life would be cool, cleaning up the streets of lower Coruscant while rubbing shoulders with the high tier elites.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Crocodile - 01-07-2017

I've always had a soft spot for Cell, but unbridled evil is always hard to write. A character like Cell doesn't have a lot of relateability.

I'd probably either go with prankster Gengar (allowing for you to be evil-lite and have fun with it) or an anti-hero Venom.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Beta Ray Bill - 01-07-2017

Illidan I'm trying to get Batman as an NPC for the Avengers, but if you want to go as him then I'll remove him from the NPC shop.

Yeah that's my thinking. After reading just how psychotic Venom is (and yes I could do my own version but w/e), I think I'd have a hard time writing as him.

Thanks for the heads up Scarecrow. Not 100% on him yet (Gengar's still my preferred choice) but he's in the running.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Darth Vader - 01-07-2017

100% Venom. Cell sounds cool too though. I'm rather impartial on Gengar since I've never been the hugest Pokemon fan but if he floats your boat and you feel you can really tap him into him well when you write him then you should go for him.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Jim Raynor - 06-02-2017

OK so now I'm within striking distance of my third (less than 1000 OM!!!) so it's crunch time. My choices haven't diverged too much, which is a good sign (although SOMEONE took Cell). So here's where I'm at, with more in-depth reasoning:

1) Gengar
Still in first place (which probably says something). I like him because of full control of his backstory and character (basically an OC), and his personality would be a cross between the Joker and the Genie from Aladdin (ie. being cruel/jokey but always being a goofball and transforming into random stuff to amuse himself). But as a Pokemon that was once owned by someone, he isn't completely malevolent which would give me some breathing room regarding what I could write.

2) Venom
The idea of being a rampaging, adrenaline-fuelled monster that 'steals' other people's Moves and can fuse with anyone is still very enticing. Still unsure if I can write someone who is more or less evil all the time, though I could soften him so he's more of an assassin or has some code of ethics or something? I don't know. But already has a cool set of power and moves.

3) Arthas Menethil
I've always had a soft spot for the Lich King. This iteration would be focused on when he's still Arthas, very soon after he claims Frostmourne. He would still be headstrong and selfish but looking out for the best for people, but he would fight the slow corruption of his blade. His power up would involve donning the armour and becoming the Lich King, but it's one of those things where he'd have to use sparingly and fight the evil inside it. Biggest concern with this choice is that he's probably too thematically similar to Illidan.

Argh! Decisions! As much as (mostly) everyone wants to see Venom, I think Gengar is edging him out. I wish we had four characters. Tongue

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Handsome Jack - 06-02-2017

Cell Jr.

RE: 3rd Character Deliberations - Gaston - 06-02-2017

Gengar, definitely.
