Remove formatting PSA - Victor Wolfe - 11-12-2016
So for those that do not know next to the text colour there is a little A with a stop sign , if you like I do write your posts in another program like Microsoft word or google docs I suggest using it on your entire post as it seems that for some reason, when you copy and paste from them it messes up the word count Nep just had this happen in their latest fight post where it showed 300
More words. And I have noticed it before too.

so i thought this made sense, but i also thought i'd test something. here i go, putting on my tinfoil hat. maybe this is gonna be beneficial.
first, look at this run-on sentence we're using for testing purposes. i'm good at english.
test time. what were your results?
it's clear those are wrong, though. i typed that in the word counter, and yet it has four words in there that don't exist.
but here we have wordcounter and google docs passing this little test here.
i'm gonna go ahead and remove my tinfoil hat again for now. remove formatting solved my issue by about two hundred-odd words, but i get the feeling it's not an absolutely perfect solution. something else might be at work here that's worth looking into.

Thanks for the testing Nep , on mobile and its late so was not in the best position to do it myself lol. And yeah just made this topic to bring up the issue that the word count is working a little funny . Mainly to raise awareness of it to people in fights and judging them. I noticed to that when going over Jolines latest fight post some of the lines would hilight on my phone almost like passing over a link. None of the other posts in the thread did that.

The "Bonus Round" is invalid as it may be counting the hyper links, when you translate that to word counter it probably won't keep the url tags and all that jazz.

ohhh, i hadn't thought about that!
taking your point into account as i look at things again-- the links transferred fine, but i wanted to see how it would go without them. so i tested that, too. it counts the tags and things in the word count, it seems. while url tags might not be used often in normal posts, it also includes bold, italicized, etc. tags, which are used in posts quite frequently, at least by comparison. i tested that, as well, and it seems like there's a problem here even still that i can't put my finger on.
...further, i feel i should apologize if i'm being an arse about this. i'm ultimately just trying to help, but if i'm not, by all means, let me know when i should stop.

On the note of formatting, before you make a post (even an OOC post) Please use the Remove formatting option. If you don't do this, the black text that looks normal on the light theme will be black on the dark theme and it makes it hard to read.

As a permanent fix to this, you can select 'Put editor in source mode by default' under Edit Options => Other Options in your User Panel. This automatically removes the formatting without needing the button press every time.
