A Better Understanding of Transformations - Centurion - 09-01-2016 I had a few questions about transformations and how they might work in the case of a potential future Alt Character. 1) Would an Alternate Form (the one you can easily switch in and out of) gift my character certain powers? -His transformation is into a wolf-like humanoid beast, so I would want him to gain enhanced senses and such. Out of this form he's really vulnerable 2) Do transformations of this type require entirely different sets of moves? One set for the standard form and another for the alternate? -Would I need punch for his human form, but then need slash for his beast form? or would i only give moves to the form that would have them? He's literally just a regular kid when he's not in his Alt form. 3) Do Alternate forms gain skill points and level up separately? -I know that you can gain points to add to your Tec or Atk for a regular character, but does that apply only to the main form of the character or does the Alt level up with/ separate from the main? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks! RE: A Better Understanding of Transformations - ElFailzalot - 09-01-2016 Let me see if I can't provide some answers for you here, Cap... You're free to flavor or roleplay it that way, and restrict any powers you purchase for him as only being usable in his transformed state. Due to the nature of the Omniverse, they would be available in every form a character has, even if they might subconsciously limit or just plain be unaware of that fact. You wouldn't necessarily need to, except in the case of things like claws for his beast form. Using punches and the like would fall under just the Physical Strength proficiency, so no need to worry about that. As with powers and the like, technically any moves you buy are always available to your character, regardless of whatever form they're in, though you are once again welcome to restrict them to certain forms. Buying stat increases essentially just adds them to your total stat 'pool', so if you say bought a stat increase to your ATK, you would in essence now have 11 points to redistribute for an alt form, instead of the base 10. Alt forms really just shuffle around what you already have, but it's still the same amount, so it all increases at the same rate as the character itself normally would. Any further questions or clarification you need, just holler. RE: A Better Understanding of Transformations - Centurion - 09-01-2016 Thanks a lot! That really helped! I'll keep that all in mind if I ever get to make this guy an Alternate Character. RE: A Better Understanding of Transformations - Omni - 09-01-2016 Elz gave really great answers to all questions. Just as a suggestion, you mentioned his regular form being 'really vulnerable'. It's fine to have a basically 'powered down' alt form for roleplaying purposes. For example, Samus could be 'suitless Samus' if I wanted, and I could reduce her stats below her base form. In this form, she's basically just a human with no powers besides Prime summoning. Belle does a similar thing (see Belle's joining form for deets). Just another potential option to save you OM. RE: A Better Understanding of Transformations - Centurion - 09-01-2016 So are you saying that technically, the beast-form would be his main form and that his human form (despite being what he would often be in) would be the Alt? Meaning that I would lay out the larger form's stats normally, but give him lesser stats? If so, how lesser should they be? RE: A Better Understanding of Transformations - Omni - 09-01-2016 There'd be no need for any alt form. Just stat his werewolf form as your sole form, and then for roleplay fodder (outside of fights) he can walk around as a weak human with no powers. RE: A Better Understanding of Transformations - Centurion - 09-01-2016 Aha I see. That makes sense. Thanks for the insight! I appreciate the help. |
