Switchin mah main - Ash Williams - 08-21-2016

Soooo, here are some ideas I been having in mind lately I'm thinking about switching Jacket to so I can try to stay active in the Omniverse. Here we go on mah three choices that I think would be neat.

1. Ash Williams (Evil Dead/Army of Darkness)
For Ash entering in the Omniverse I was thinking he would stick around mostly in The Pale Moors and maybe visit Camelot. For the story of Ash, I was wanting him to be one of the prime heroes in the Pale Moors that protects the people from the violent nature and Dracula's Army. I also plan for him to quarrel with Dracula and at least give shining hope for the Pale Moors.

2. Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones)
[Image: Indiana_Jones_in_Raiders_of_the_Lost_Ark.jpg]
Indiana Jones would go on a big artifact hunting expedition to at least get a couple artifacts that the Omniverse holds. I might plan to create some sort of archeology expedition team for the Omniverse too if people are interested in it. That's pretty much it for Indiana Jones and I may see if I can introduce maybe one new artifact or two.

3. Micheal J. Caboose (Red vs. Blue)

Basically just fun times and making friendship to many others. Also just to add some comic relief to the Omniverse!

Indiana Jones is my all time favorite character form any and all media. The only reason I'm not playing him is that I couldn't think of enough stuff for moves, transformations, etc. I'm strongly tempted to vote for him just to see him around, but with what you've spelled out Ash Williams seems like a great idea. Going against Dracula gives you a strong pool of characters to interact with, especially with Shang's plot to overthrow Dracula in the near future.

Vote for Ash.

Call me nuts but ... the machinima dude.

RE: Switchin mah main - Guu - 08-22-2016

Oh, well, I'd say the safe bet is Caboose. Mind you, I don't know the character all too well and I don't know you all to well, I mean, it depends how you are at writing comedy.

Though, a little insight on the other two, I have to warn you about playing characters with too much of a legacy. Part of what makes a character last is to find that sweet spot where you feel like you own them. This isn't the Indiana Jones of the movies, this is your Indiana Jones OC. You'd have to be able to write as that character and not be afraid you might be breaking film canon because it's your canon now.

From what I've seen, that's much harder to accomplish when they have a higher mainstream conciousness. It's why we don't have a Batman, it's just intimidating to play a character with that much weight to it, ya know?

This is not to discourage you, just something to consider. Maybe Indiana Jones or Ash is perfect for you, I was just making sure you were aware of a common trapping that hit writers on this site. Whoever you pick, I'd love to see you make it work in your own way <3

RE: Switchin mah main - Lord Dominator - 08-22-2016

I think all three characters could work well! Though I'd probably veer towards Ash or Indiana as your main.

This is mostly because I tend to view your 'main' primarily as a character you use to drive plots of your own devising, and your 'alt' as a character you primarily use to engage in other people's plots. Caboose seems like he would be a harder character to create and drive storylines with, but a great character to engage with existing stories with - so I'd consider him as an alt.

Also, with the caveat that I've only been here ~a month or so at this point, and every game has a different culture ... I would say that, speaking entirely personally, I disagree with Guu's assessment. Sure, a lot of people here enjoy taking an existing character and taking them in new directions... but that is not the only way to approach a character and make them successful!

I've done a lot of RP as canonical characters over the past ten years, and what brings me back is the challenge of writing the character as close to their source material as possible. This is not to say that I never take characters in new directions - because the situations and storylines they wind up in demand that - but I definitely don't try to make the character 'my own'. I want people to read my posts and go 'oh yeah, that is so (character name)'.

The trick for me has been treating these games like ... games. I don't take it seriously (in the sense of agonising over my 'work') and if/when it stops being fun, I'm quite happy to swap over to another character and start over; I don't get invested in characters as extensions of myself. (Though running out of fun does not seem to be an immediate issue on either character I have right now).

Caaaaabooose, although I may be bais because I love RVB

RE: Switchin mah main - Jacket - 08-24-2016

I appreciate all the feedback you guys have given and it shows support to my ideas. Lately, I been giving thought on my switch and the one who has the most developed plot out of the three is Ash Williams. That character makes me feel comfortable with plot development and could leave a legacy to the Omniverse. Dominator is right about the main and maybe one day if I feel that Ash's story has to come to an end then I may make him as a site NPC. I may consider Micheal J. Caboose maybe as a third character just for shits and giggles. Ash Williams also doesn't have too much for a legacy well recently there is a continuation with him in Ash vs Evil Dead and there is some comics but I rather use him from the end in Army of Darkness just because that is the most familiar lore in the canon.
