4th/5th Charries - Jack Darby - 07-30-2016

What if you want more than three characters? What can you do then?

RE: 4th/5th Charries - Kyle Crane - 07-30-2016

I seriously doubt it will ever be possible to get a fourth or fifth character.

If it was possible, it would have been mentioned, along with the requirements.

RE: 4th/5th Charries - 2B - 07-30-2016

Not currently possible. Probably won't be possible anytime soon either.
Third character was already a "very recent" addition to the site, and it was long believed it wouldn't happen.
It happened after long thought, and as you may see, it is gated behind reaching 22 000 Omnilium on both of your two characters.
If we ever were to see say, 4th character, you could expect something like 50 000 Omnilium earned on all three of your earlier characters.
75 000 on all four for fifth.
And these are just values I'm pulling off of the top of my hat, to show how hard it would likely be to actually reach the fourth of fifth character slot.

So. Wanting more than a third character, eh? Right, well...I know the aches and pains of having a list of character ideas and possibilities several miles long, and the issue of choosing just one or a few of them is definitely a big one. But at the same time, there's a very good reason for it.

The amount of effort it takes to manage even one character, with a constant, continuing storyline, is a bit of a hassle. Managing just one set of everything and keeping in mind what you can and can't do and where you've been/done things, and how to go about moving on from there, is a chore.

Managing that with two characters is a real task, but still manageable.

Managing it with three, by some chance? Monumental.

More than three? I just...y'know, let's just stick to what we have now.

AND REMEMBER KIDS, you need to have met the requirements to get a third character before worrying about more than three. You've barely climbed the hill to be eligible for a second. Come back when you can have a third one if you're still antsy for more.

Maybe everyone will have gone crazy and consider it by then. :frogpipe:

RE: 4th/5th Charries - Amaterasu - 07-30-2016

(just adding some math to Arty's and Adam's statements, because math makes everything better)

Just as a reminder beforehand, the entire 3rd character idea was something that came up a few months ago. And even that carried a lot of controversy, as you can still see under the rules - Omni discouraging you from getting that third character and such.

If you want more characters to write with you can submit NPC Primes, Secondaries, you can request permission to write as a Site NPC or even temporarily play someone else's character for them, with their permission. With 3 characters you would have two level 5s and one level 1, at least, meaning that you could summon up to 55 secondaries (5 per level per character, amounting to 25 + 25 + 5) and 6 NPC Primes for a grand total of 64 unique characters. If that's not enough for you, I don't know what to say. :frog:

RE: 4th/5th Charries - Jack Darby - 07-30-2016

Mainly reason I want fourth or fifth?

Can't decide between my NUMEROUS ideas for my third.   And since I didn't want to continually switch my third every six weeks until I figured out which one I liked the best...and since I assume NPC Primes are limited to the Fandoms your characters are in, that means you must stick to those limitations. Given most of my list isn't from NFL Rush Zone or Green Lantern that leaves a bit of an issue.

RE: 4th/5th Charries - Jack Darby - 07-30-2016

Anyway now that I think about it if NPC Primes or Secondaries can be from different fandoms, I might not even NEED to make a fourth or fifth.

RE: 4th/5th Charries - Blink - 07-30-2016

Like I said in the chat, you don't have to pull from a fandom. Make an original character. They can be as close to an actual character as you want. I have a guy that is basically Max Payne. But the beauty of it is that I don't have to be constrained to the Max Payne universe with him. I can make him however I want, based on that character. If I want to randomly make him fly, I can.

Got it. Could someone delete this please?

Well, you don't currently fulfill the requirements for a third character. So considering which third character to play at this point in time is somewhat premature, especially since you might change your mind long before you even reach the required levels.

In any event, Adam and Ammy have covered most of what needed to be said in relation to this topic. I just want to add two things:
  • Allowing you to have a fourth and fifth PC would not help resolve your indecisiveness. If anything, it would only serve to feed into it. By dividing your attention amongst so many characters, pretty much none of them would receive the care and attention that they would require to grow beyond their basic concept. As a result, you probably would have grown bored of them by the time you returned to the character and would replace them as soon as the opportunity arose to do so.

I understand that it can be disappointing to be limited to a fewer number of options. But it serves to encourage you to really consider which character you value most and which of your ideas are the most well- developed.

  • There's nothing precluding you from writing a few test RPs prior to submitting a character for approval. In fact, this is something that I generally recommend to anyone who has trouble deciding between characters. Actually trying out how the character works out in practice will tell you volumes about whether you'll enjoy writing as them and whether it's something you could see yourself doing for a longer period of time.

If they are OCs, then yes, they could be from a different universe than your character's, though obviously, they would have been summoned by someone other than your character. Canon characters are a different story, though, as mentioned in the rules.

I'm just posting to fit in.

But seriously I doubt anyone will ever get to that point.

RE: 4th/5th Charries - Daniel - 07-30-2016

NPC Primes must be from your characters Canon or an original creation. They cannot be from any other source.

RE: 4th/5th Charries - Daniel - 07-30-2016

If you need more information on NPCs and writing as them, there's a whole section on it in the rules.
