New Pet - Crocodile - 03-11-2018

I found a lizard today while delivering mail. It was cold out, so I put it in the truck with me.

I was gonna set him free once I got home, but my son took a shine to him. Despite not wanting to touch it because it was "too scary". So now I own a lizard, because he wouldn't let me put it back outside.

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-11-2018

And yes, I realize the irony of a guy called Crocodile having a reptile pet.

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-11-2018

My son has named his lizard. It is now: "Cool" the lizard.

I also did research and discovered that it's an Eastern Fence Lizard.

RE: New Pet - Strazio Rockwell - 03-11-2018

Did you find it on an eastern facing fence?

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-11-2018

I found it on a front porch. Made of concrete. So no.

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-11-2018

New discovery: it is a woman lizard.

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-11-2018

I found a millipede rolled up in a ball outside. Apparently still alive. I gave it to Cool to eat. I check up on Cool a little while later and saw no millipede. 3 possibilities. 1) Cool ate it. Awesome! 2) It ate Cool and is now masqarading as my lizard until it can get its revenge on me. Less awesome. 3) It's hiding under the mulch, biding its time until one of the previous options occur.

Look under rocks for big crickets! The biggest crickets are always under those! I bet Cool would like 'em.

RE: New Pet - Jacket - 03-11-2018

If you got lady bugs trying to find a warm place inside your house, that's a good source and cockroaches too. Well, small cockroaches might be best.

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-11-2018

Cool might be too small for big crickets, unfortunately. She ain't much more than maybe 4 inches long, including tail. I'll keep an eye out for smaller critters to feed her, however. And I may need to get an actual heat lamp. It's fairly warm in the house, but I hear she might need warmer.

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-12-2018

Cool the Lizard has died today. 11 March 2018-12 March 2018. You're with the dinosaurs now, buddy.

RE: New Pet - Gilgamesh - 03-12-2018

Oh no. Do you know why?

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-12-2018

Nothing certain, but considering how lethargic it was when I found it (I WAS able to catch it with my bare hands, after all), I think it was on its way out already. Might have been that millipede. Might have just not gotten warm enough. Starter tank I got came with a 5w light, a water bowl, and a thermometer/hygrometer. I told my son we'd go get a new one sometime soon. And probably get a small heat lamp when we do.

RE: New Pet - Victor Wolfe - 03-12-2018

the milipede might not have been the best idea, from what I remember they release a bad tasting poison when eaten. RIP Cool

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-12-2018

Why didn't you warn me, Victor!? This is all YOUR fault!

RE: New Pet - Jade Harley - 03-12-2018

Oh my gosh, that's terrible! Poor Cool. Sad She will be missed.

RE: New Pet - Sasuke Uchiha - 03-12-2018

Oh nooo. Well, this story turned fast. Sorry dood. Perhaps, one from the pet store will work better. Sometimes wild animals would rather die than live in captivity.

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-14-2018

Got a couple of African Dwarf Frogs to fill the tank. Pictures will be incoming once the tank is set up.

RE: New Pet - Omni - 03-14-2018

Just a reminder that animals are not toys.

RE: New Pet - Crocodile - 03-14-2018

Yes. I know. Thus why I spent over a hundred bucks on their set-up. Filter. Heater. Bacteria. Substrate. Hidey holes. Plants. Etc. They'll be good an comfortable and the boys will enjoy watching them, since they're too scared to touch any animal anyway.
