Slow Burn - Albert Wesker - 05-26-2018 From what Lupo was hearing over comms and the various communication channels, she suspected that their trip to the Tangled Green had been the shortest, and most uneventful. Aside from running across a pack of zombies fighting a werewolf -- seriously, a werewolf of all things! -- the trip had been little more than a long drive through dreary terrain. Even the looming risk of Vector doing some very worrying knife tossing in a moving vehicle did very little to put any edge on things. Now that they were here, though...things were bound to get at least a little more interesting. "Well...looks like this is where we start walking," the wolf spoke up. "Little too much forest, little too lacking in stable ground." "Yeah. Got trails here and there. Who knows how long they'll last though." Vector had already slipped out of the jeep, squirreling around on the roof of it. Blink and you missed it; Vector was about as socially interesting as a bag of wet sand most of the time, but damn if he couldn't move like a snake. "Good part is...should be able to cut a path for us easy enough, even if the trails do run cold." "Just keep in mind, this place is dangerous for reasons much more mundane than anything so fantastic as being in another world." In her typical fashion, Four Eyes succinctly put a kibosh on any sort of chance for lighthearted humor. "From what I've been able to gather and piece together, on top of Captain Wesker's findings, this...verse runs the entire range of heavily forested biomes," she went on, climbing out and pacing away toward the treeline. "Natural wildlife will be abundant, and we should all know how dangerous even regular animals can be." "So we be careful, then," Lupo said shortly. "And we keep alert. Even the king of the jungle can't stand up to a pack of wolves." She turned aside, fetching her rifle and gear from the jeep. With everything secured, she stepped back. "Vector. Cover it." "Ma'am." The resident knife-wizard hopped down and reached in through the still-open door, pulling out his own gear and equipment -- not a substantial amount, all things told -- and secured it in place, before tossing Four Eyes her gear pack with a simple "Yamata. Don't forget this." and reaching back in for what looked rather like a tarp of some silvery cloth. With only a moment to kick the doors properly closed, he unfurled it and tossed it over the car. No sooner had it settled down over it, it started to shift and change color. Patterns of green and brown swept across it, vague and blurred at first. Slowly they solidified and took more consistent shape. Shimmering slightly in the wind, and probably wouldn't hold up to a close-range or keen inspection, but for all intents and purposes the camouflage would work. "Covered," the assassin noted. "Right. Let's get moving, then." Lupo gestured to one of the trails which could barely be seen at the edge of the clearing. "Four Eyes, where are we going?" "Right, uh, let me see..." The virologist hurried to catch up to the lead wolf, tapping at her wristcomp as she went. "It's hard to find much concrete detail. There's a few centers of civilization and the like here...some major landmarks and the like..." She went quiet, tapping away further as she pulled up the data and specific requests from Wesker. Probably best not to mention that until it actually came time to act on it. "There's...a few places worth checking out. No real GPS or anything here, so..." She looked up again. "Just...have to make do with old-fashioned directions." "Of course. Nothing like the classics." Lupo chuckled. "Well, let's get going. Keep a steady eye out so we don't take a wrong turn and wind up falling in a river or something." She looked aside. "Vector. Eyes open. High vantage point." "Understood." The stealthy one spoke simply, and went into motion. He went from a few paces behind his allies, to several paces in front of them and scaling a tree in the blink of an eye. In another blink he was gone; only a faint rustle in the leaves above hinted he'd ever been there at all. "I'll keep in touch via comms." His voice drifted down from several paces ahead. "Channel seven." Then a light rustling, and silence as he moved on ahead. "....it's kind of unsettling how he does that," Four Eyes stated, watching the last point they'd seen Vector at. "Just think of how much worse it will be for anyone who isn't on his side," Lupo mused. "We just get a little spooked at how good he is. They won't even get that. Just a sudden knife." "Yeah...glad he's on our side." |
