Vignettes - Tearen Wover - 06-11-2016

Have a few lines of prose or poetry that popped into your head, but have no place to put them IC?

Put 'em here.

People milled about in vague lines on the muddy field, diligently shepherded by church volunteers in orange vests; those precious orange vests which could turn even the most milquetoast burb-goers into militaristic riot cops.

The sky sagged with a grey heaviness to the north, the thunder shower having drifted out as quickly as it had struck. Beady pearls of fragrant rainwater glistened on the hundred or so cars parked in sloppy rows just beyond the dampened signage for the carnival.

"St. Grace's Summer Faire" it read, the slanted green print shouting at the steady traffic which glided past. The venerated, creaking carnival rides slowly began to grind back to life as people returned. The sun, though bleary in the western horizon, cast long shadows over the weary parents as they allowed themselves to be dragged by the cloying hands of their offspring, casting nervous but polite looks at the operators of the portable attractions.

Surely the brightly painted machines could only be missing one or two bolts, at the very most.

The lines of cascading code threw a green glow across the hacker's singed and burned face. There were only a few precious moments before it blew. "Come on, come on...piece of shit!" Hiro's fingertips flew across the archaic keyboard, the pinging sound of popping rivets growing closer and closer.

RE: Vignettes - Jade Harley - 06-11-2016

He ducks beneath the shadow of the immense mass of foliage and leaves behind him, searching for a slope that might grant him access to the valley pooling far below the jungle canopy. His eyes settle upon a pile of partially-loosened stones, orange and lightly dusted with dried mud; the astronomer scrabbles down them, scraping the palms of his hands and stuttering his boots against the rock as he slips down the ridge.

His feet connect with the ground followed by a satisfying ‘thump’, the canteen at his hip and leather knife scabbard jangling together. The water in his canteen gives a slurping plop as it settles. Shrugging the straps of his pack about his shoulders, he sets off into the undergrowth and tangled, lush creepers. Yellow-white blooms pepper the scene, buttery soft and pleasing to the eye.

The forest all around him is vibrant, filled with the chattering of forest creatures and enthusiastic birdsong. Although his back is slick with briny sweat, a muddy, scratched sheen covering his arms and legs, shins burning bright and throbbing with dull pain, he feels magnificent and present in the world. As his eyes roam the surrounding weltering lattice of climbing vines and fiery-colored plants, a peculiar calmness settles over his mind and body, a swaddling blanket of footwork, stepping rhythm and a thorough quenching of his need for adventure.

Out here, it is easy to imagine what it was like before the plum-purplish haze had settled over the sky from the emission of vicious gases into the atmosphere, before there were such things as light pollution and exhaust pipes. The sky will no doubt be clear tonight, untainted by industrial glamour. An idyllic skyscape to direct the lens of his telescope towards curves slowly above, endlessly patient and serene long after the sun would give way to nightfall.

Dace looked up at eyeless douche that greeted him on his first day he found himself in the Omniverse. When he got the first taste of the shitty adventure that began so long ago. Even in the presence of this supposed almighty being, Dace gave no  signs of any emotion as he simply walked the steps, hands in his pockets, slouching as always.

"So, I'm guessing you have questions?" The eyeless douche spoke aloud with his dumbass grin.

"Just one." The Knight of Time replied, stopping just a few feet in front of the god-like being.

"Which is?" the white being replied as he motioned with his hands for Dace to speak.

The kid in the dark ironic sunglasses simply looked off into the white distance and leaned threw up his hands, giving the slightest of smirks.

"Why am I so fucking awesome?"

RE: Vignettes - Moon - 07-26-2016

Today was a rather slow day.

No missions to go on, so the Avengers were taking the little while they had off. Hopps was a bit injured from the Pokemon rescue they'd performed a few days prior, so she was currently reclining on a chair in her own personal room, as everyone in the group had gotten. She was rather happy about that, really. After all, she didn't want to be that one girl who always hogged the couch. A quick idea struck her, and she grabbed her phone, quickly summoning some earbuds to go along with it. A few taps later, and she was relaxing in style. At least, in her mind. To the outside, she probably looked a bit lazy, but what were you gonna do?

A few hours passed, the rabbit probably took a quick nap somewhere in there, and at the end of it all was feeling a lot better than before. Music did help sooth pain after all. Something to jot down. However, one thing that music couldn't ease was a hungry stomach. So she slowly got up from the chair, absentmindedly noting the stiffness of her joints, and started limping towards the elevator. It seemed that Hal had the same idea, or something similar, as he was there too. They simply nodded their greetings, and stood in comfortable silence as the elevator decended.

At last, it reached their destination, and they departed towards the kitchen.
