LogEntry 0001 - The Vision - 06-07-2016

When the Vision opened his eyes, he found his body was unable to move. His irises whirred and spun as he tried to process his surroundings.

function “scan” not found

Vision was confused. “Scan” was a very basic function, which he should have no problem executing. He attempted several other functions, to find that only a small portion of his abilities were still available to him. Furthermore, it appeared that his Solar Gem had been almost entirely drained of power, which explained why he couldn’t move.

At that moment, Vision calculated that he had enough solar power to remedy that. He rose to his feet and looked at his surroundings. He found the results of the environment scan… unsatisfying. There was nothing but sheer whiteness permeating through the entire place. The laws of physics, the Vision noted, seemed different here. He appeared to have entered an alternate universe, comparable to the Battleworld.

But how did he get here?

Vision selected the latest memories and analyzed the simulated replays in his head. This took five scientific jiffies. So, indeed, he had entered an alternate universe of sorts. In the past, such dimensional displacements tended to affect multiple entities. Thus, Vision hypothesized that he would not be alone here. He couldn’t help but hope that his allies were nearby. Scanning for any fellow Avengers, he found a computer nearby. Perhaps this would be helpful for finding new information.

Long, fibrous wires uncoiled from the Vision’s chestpiece. They slowly groped forward until they latched onto the monitor, feeling for a port with which Vision could interact with it. Finding one, Vision plugged himself in. Fortunately, the computer was connected to a local network. Unfortunately, the first package of data Vision found was an obnoxious letter.

Quote:To my dear, dear Vizzy,

Good morning, Sunshine!

My name is Karl Jak, and I’m here to cordially invite you to my home, the Danteverse.  You’ve received this letter, because I’m in need of some help.  The Danteverse is a large place, but it seems that some things have happened out there in the Dante Ocean that I don’t recollect.  Strange islands and bizarre weather patterns…

I found an island I don’t recall designing.  Even worse, all this weather crap makes it impossible to survey the place from the air or through other means (don’t even get me started on the scrying crystal nonsense).  I even sent some of my favorite cabana boys out to investigate, and their ‘whirlybird’ stopped responding.

So I’m inviting you to join me, Mr. Karl Jak, on an expedition into the unknown.  Help save my poor lost boys and solve this mystery of the Danteverse.

We’ll be opening our doors in about ten days.  We’ll have gates open in the Endless Dunes and the Pale Moors.  Doors will also be open to vendors, diplomats, and anyone else who would like to use the Danteverse as a secure space for a few days.

I hope to see you there.

Smooches,
Karl Jak

Vision scanned the rest of the network, downloading as much information as he could into his internal database. This “Omniverse” was full of various creatures, as well as entities that Vision was familiar with. He noted the presence of Professor Charles Xavier in the kingdom of Camelot, and (to his displeasure) found some of Deadpool’s tweets.

But most prominent was the chatter about Karl Jak’s advertisement. It seemed that the majority of the Omniverse’s denizens wished to attend an event called “Dante’s Abyss”, an annual event directly related to Mr. Karl Jak’s predicament.

The Vision contemplated the cost and benefit to attending such a mission. His duty, obviously, was to protect as many people as he can. However, Karl Jak’s reputation was… less than optimal. It was highly likely that this advertisement was devised as a sort of trap. Furthermore, it was unclear to Vision how this Karl Jak was alerted of his presence not long after Vision himself did.

Vision ran one last calculation before shutting down the risk assessment command.

AllyMeet% :: 73.525

This made sense, according to Vision’s more human intuition. The Avengers would be considering this particular event with a similar if not identical train of thought that Vision was undergoing.

To conclude, the best chance to find allies was to do his job. The imminent danger was part of the job description.

Vision scanned the online map database for the quickest route to Karl Jak’s expedition. He found a teleportation module in a city called Darkshire which was associated with the event. Vision, quietly lamenting his loss of flight, started running towards the mossy gate of the Pale Moors.
