Crusader Kings 2 - Darth Vader - 03-19-2016

So, anyone else play it? I've had it sitting around in my steam library for a long time now, but I only picked it back up a few months ago and I've honestly fallen back in love with the game all over again; I think I'd still be writing many stories on here if I never started playing this game again, dare I say it. :frog siren:

I've managed to weave quite a few fun political tales and stories with this one, some humorous, some dark and some just downright depressing. I'm quite interested to hear some of the experiences you guys have had with the game, though; I'll likely post a few of my own when more of them spring to mind.

Also, anyone here interested in possibly doing a multiplayer session sometime? I've yet to try a multiplayer game but, for as chaotic and difficult as it looks, it could be a LOT of fun. I've invested a lot of my time so far with the game into vanilla as well as the Game of Thrones conversion mod, but I know there's some other amazing total conversion mods out there that I really want to check out for myself some time. (Elder Kings, After the End, Warhammer, etc...)

For those of you reading this who has no idea what CK2 is, also; it's a grand-strategy game developed by Paradox which centres around the whole middle ages period and the feudal clusterfuck. It's a game all about getting to the top and gaining more power as well as making sure your dynasty and family name survives on with you throughout the ages. It's a hard game to grasp in the beginning, but if you enjoy strategy games, want something a little more difficult than usual and are a major history buff just like I am, I can guarantee that you'll really enjoy this game, and you should totally go and check it out for yourself.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Okor - 03-19-2016

I quite enjoy CK2. I don't suppose you've paid any attention to Stellaris, have you? It's Paradox's attempt at making CK2 in space, so I'm quite looking forward to it.

But I'm still very much a fan of the Geheimnisnacht mod.

I really loved the game but the new expansion makes things so much more unfair, 1 holy war and you can have a very large coalition, and trying to raise your heir to have the right skills is extremely difficult.

Then just don't use it.

pretty sure most of those features are also in the latest patches, and I like my achievements.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Alex - 03-20-2016

Started up a new game as an Italian duke in the 8th century.

Been a 6+ months since I last played. Some new features it looks like.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Alex - 03-22-2016

Being an Italian Duke kind of sucks.

I managed to marry a Byzantine heiress and convince the rest of Lombardy to help me put her on the throne amidst a handful of Byzantine revolts. Since I forced her to convert after marriage and before putting her on the throne, she immediately started forcing the Greeks to convert back to Catholicism or took their land holdings.

My kid stands to inherit my wife's throne as well as my dukedom in central Italy. Good times.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Trixie - 03-22-2016

I need to reinstall this.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Cyburn - 03-22-2016

Have any of you ever played with the After The End mod? It's pretty great.

You play in North America after the apocalypse, and then the British start invading as they worship a god whom they only call The Queen. Also, Ohio is a kingdom. That's a win for me.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Darth Vader - 03-22-2016

After the End looks like an awesome mod. Florida being a tribal kingdom that's named after and literally reveres Mickey Mouse is something that especially gets me.

I actually just remembered a pretty funny, yet abrupt game I had way back in the GoT mod. I started up as Tommen Baratheon/Lannister, a child king, in the Feast for Crows scenario, and everything went absolutely fine for the first few years, especially with regards to the two or three wars I had to deal with right from the get Edmure Tully got defeated early on as he typically does, I defeated Stannis without much difficulty and Euron was repelled from Reach fairly swiftly. By the time Tommen was 12, though, Margaery had already had two bastard children with two different lowly knights. Since I was trying to play in a role-play kind of style that game (basing the decisions I make upon my characters traits - it can actually make for some pretty bizarre and interesting playthroughs) I quickly divorced Margaery and betrothed Tommen to a Blackwood girl.

Few more years go by - Tommen's finally 18, so he re-marries and consummates his marriage. I even managed to get him a daughter, who I named Myrcella in his deceased sisters honour.

This is where things spiral downwards into oblivion completely - Tommen catches gonorrhoea from his wife and dies pretty quickly. So now I'm left playing as his 1 year old female daughter, who, I shit you not on this - also has gonorrhoea.

Before long, Stannis's daughter Shireen (who I'd completely forgotten about, and managed to remain Lord Paramount of the Stormlands since I'd won the war against Stannis and sent him to the Wall) starts a faction to depose me and get herself crowned. This garners support pretty quickly, and surely enough, she declares war on me, absolutely obliterates my armies, sieges down my capital and wins. Game over.

We should see about getting an Omniverse game going, perhaps when we're all able to find the time for it.

Sounds fun. I'd be in.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Alex - 03-24-2016

Man, people are bitches, calling me a tyrant and plotting behind my back.

It's not my fault your uncle/cousin/brother/kid/whatever was a little shit and deserved to get his head chopped off! I'm just trying to take back land from the heathens, and this is the respect I get?!

Ah well. Can't please everyone.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Magus - 03-26-2016

So.... since the newest update this game runs like shit.

It crashes so hard it completely locks up my machine.

It almost looks like a gpu issue (vertical lines and then a black screen). I'd believe my card was dying if it didn't run literally everything else flawlessly. And I've got 4GB VRAM - why am I having issues?

I've updated my display drivers, verified the cache thru Steam and done all of the various troubleshooting bits I can find online but nothing fixes it. The game runs fine for about 20 minutes, then locks my computer up.

Anyone dealt with this?

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Trixie - 04-17-2016

So I started a game. I was Beatrix di Zulenka of Tuscany. Now my son Felice has taken over and is Commander of the Holy Roman Empire.

20 minutes after this post Felice died at 29 FOR NO GOD DAMN REASON! Vad took over and is now beating everyone up. He is soooo hated.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Cyburn - 04-17-2016

In my current game, I have started from the earliest starting point. My goal is to wipe out Christianity and make Norse Paganism the dominant religion. If that fails, I will upload my save to EUIV.

So far, so good. All of the British Isles are under my domain, and I am slowly eradicating the heretical worship of a man on a stick.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Trixie - 04-17-2016

ALVISE! HOW COULD YOU! YOU WERE MY BROTHER!

Okay so..the Holy Roman Empire has exploded into Civil War LED BY MY OWN BROTHER. I SHOULD HAVE LEFT YOU IN THE DUNGEONS!

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Trixie - 04-17-2016

Fucking revolt is kaput. Vad is 72 and still leading troops for the Kaiser. GO MOTHER FUCKER GO.

RE: Crusader Kings 2 - Alex - 04-19-2016

My HRE game has recently culminated with me finally getting primogeniture succession through, after several successive kings working to centralize my massive, blob-like empire. Now it's just a matter of relaxing and making nice marriage alliances as I work toward aggressively conquering Scandinavia and assimilating the remaining independent Christians through more diplomatic means.

In my Catholic Byzantium game, I'm relaxing as well. Had a pretty talented Emperor die suddenly, but the transition to his son was without any hiccups. My focus in this game is going to be to recreate the Roman Empire, so it's just a matter of picking and choosing when to strike at my weaker neighbors in the Balkans and Italy. The muslims might be a little rougher to deal with, but my granddad grabbed a duchy after a war with the neighboring Muslim empire, which means it can be done.
