Titanfall - Omni - 03-16-2014 Anyone else picked this up? I did yesterday. Only played about two hours so far but really looking forward to sinking some time in. Re: Titanfall - Udyr - 03-16-2014 Not sure. It sounds interesting but Halo 4 kinda killed my multiplayer FPS desire. Re: Titanfall - Omni - 03-16-2014 Because it was bad or because it was good? This feels a LOT like Call of Duty, which was slightly disappointing for me at first because I guess I expected something 100% different. Just like CoD, as a pilot, you die almost instantly. It means that, despite all the things said, you can and still will get owned by random snipers and those with high-level perks. However, camping is really not a thing because of the nature of the game, you can come from anywhere thanks to parkour and jetpacks. Titans are amazing and the way you get them is perfect. Rather than killstreaks, you always get your own after a set period of time; kills just decrease the time it takes. And unlike other games where you race for a vehicle, it's YOUR titan. So far I've been mostly partial to the strong n' slow ogre; IMO being an evasive titan is largely pointless, you've not exactly a small target anyway so you may as well just be tough enough to tank everything. Might be just because I'm a noob though. Re: Titanfall - Harry Dresden - 03-16-2014 Looks cool but I don't want to buy XBox One and I feel as though the DRM will be through GFWL on computers. Which is always a train wreck. Re: Titanfall - Omni - 03-16-2014 It's on Origin. But it's honestly worth it. GFWL was scrapped entirely last year, causing everyone to have to restart saves on previously-GFWL games as a final fuck you from that abominable system. Re: Titanfall - Harry Dresden - 03-16-2014 Origin isn't Steam and therefore it irks me, but Origin has one thing going over GFWL. IT FUCKING DOES ITS JOB. Re: Titanfall - Udyr - 03-16-2014 Omni Wrote:Because it was bad or because it was good? Because my mates and I overplayed Halo Reach, and by the time 4 came out, we were over it. It was largely to do with people being far more skilled than us even though we sunk so many hours on Reach, and it stopped being competitive, which is what makes it interesting. Re: Titanfall - Omni - 03-17-2014 They built a lot into this game that alleviates the 'getting owned by more skilled players' problems, though it does take a little while to find your rhythm. My first couple of hours I got destroyed but then pretty quickly started having a lot of fun. It just clicks all of a sudden, and then you don't even think about it - you're just running around on walls, racking up kills on grunts and bots so you can summon your titan faster. The bots are absolutely essential to that rhythm, it feels a lot like a moba. Except more like CoD. And Assassin's Creed. But the bots also make it so that you can contribute a great deal (particularly in the main mode, Attrition) without being a pro. The smart pistol also ties into that as well, because it's the fastest way to rack up kills on grunts. It's funny that people rage at me for using a 'noob weapon' when I use it, because they don't realise that the point of it is to get your titan out faster by racking up bot kills. The fact that it doubles as a massive middle finger up to "noob weapon!" criers when I kill them with it is just a bonus. Once you're in the Titan, you can just as easily get kills with aiming skill as by running over them or punching them. It's great fun. I actually like being in the titan so much I thought I'd prefer the mode where everyone starts out in Titans and the aim is to destroy all the opposing team's titans, but funnily enough I prefer it when it's got that rhythm, of starting out on foot and then summoning your Titan a minute or so in. Also, part of the fun is being one of the only titans on the map. I feel like I will get bored of it quite quickly though, I'm already itching for more modes and unlockables. I mean, it's more than enough already, but this is one game where I'd actually use all of the stuff that the later CoD games have crammed in. If you stuffed it into a model like Planetside 2 ... jesus. Re: Titanfall - Illidan Stormrage - 11-29-2014 This is free for 48 hours. Downloading now but 19gb ... will be a few hours before I can. |
