Emergent Storytelling Games? - Amaterasu - 01-16-2016
So we're all roleplayers here, and probably gamers too. Roleplays are all about YOU making YOUR character and telling YOUR story. Many games tell you a story instead, and that's cool.
However I've recently come to have a craving for Emergent Storytelling, or Emergent Narrative/Procedural Stories games, games where each playthrough is different, where there's no predefined path or story that you will follow, but rather a world that is filled with random elements and you navigate through whilst coping with the events the game throws at you. A few examples would be "Curious Expedition", "Dwarf Fortress" and even some multiplayer titles like "Rust". Don't confuse this with Sandbox games where you can shape the world however you like and there are some random elements built into the world such as dungeons or caves - those are cool too of course, but the game doesn't really throw random elements at you.
So I want to ask - what games are out there that you know of, which are like this? Are there any you would recommend? Are there any forums or other sites where players share their amazing and/or hilarious stories? Or do you have any comments to add to the listed games? Let me know!
I'll keep a list of titles in this post for all those who are interested.

From what I read this game has some amount of storytelling because other factions have their randomly generated characters with their own goals and preferences. I've never played it myself though.

"Medieval Europe Simulator", you could call it. Again, not a title I've personally played, but would consider. It simulates an entire world with characters from the Pope to the barons and dukes with politics, assassinations and all that stuff. And it's got multiplayer.

Haven't played this either, but it's a pretty difficult game from what I can tell. You undertake an expedition through a jungle, aiming to bring back artifacts and riches whilst fighting against the harsh nature. Each decision has consequences and because you killed one character at the start you may get bitten in the ass shortly before the end.

Possibly one of the most complex games in the world. I've barely gotten around to playing it as even familiarizing oneself with the controls and understanding the game's very basics is difficult. Dwarf Simulator isn't a friendly simulator that holds your hand with a decent learning curve - it's got a learning wall. And once you've mounted that wall you have an amazingly deep-going game. If you don't mind the learning challenge this is one of the best emergent storytelling games.

Another game I haven't played yet. The base idea is to build a spaceship for a group of stranded astronauts and make an escape, whilst the game periodically throws random elements at you - with a twist. The better you perform, the more likely you are to get a "bad" or "hard" challenge, like a meteor rain or an alien attack. On the other hand if you are having a horrible time the game will help you out with good elements like colonists arriving or supplies appearing.

Fantasy life simulator. It's anything but realistic, it's silly, fun and, to some extent, yes you can tell your own story. I've had one of my Sims feed off of sandwiches that he found between the couch pillows because I had zero cash and no job.

Any of the telltale games. It's basically an interactive TV show where you play as the protagonist and have to make impactful decisions that will affect the entire game.

Half the point of Nuzlocke challenges are to make a story with the restrictions in place for whatever pokemon version you are playing.
