==> Adam: Make a hasty exit - Roger Smith - 01-14-2016

Slowly, ever so slowly, Adam closed the lip of his laptop.

Okay well this is bad. Or at least very much not good. About as far from good as it was possible to get, really. Of all the people and things to have managed to end up here with him... He had ended up here. The very same one who had been responsible for so much pain that it had been the single wakeup moment needed to get Adam to really catch on to the full extent of his Time powers.

In hindsight, maybe, not the worst thing that could have happened. But it had still been enough to steal something impossible to replace. Every one of his friends that remained had told him time and time again not to bother with it and to let it go, but that just really wasn't his style. He'd let it just keep picking and picking at him, until he'd done something incredibly stupid, and almost ended up getting both himself and Rhys killed.

He wouldn't have minded terribly losing himself to the consignment of eternal wandering among the dream bubbles, but he kind of didn't want that to happen to anyone ELSE on his watch. So it was a sore subject. And it had only gotten more sore every subsequent encounter until things had hit a head and it was at the kill or be killed moment.

Recalling it now, after having deliberately pushed it out of his mind for so long, almost made him sick.

And he actively turned his attention away from it, to anything else. "Not focusing on the crazy, possibly still homicidal troll right now. No, not doing that..." He insistently batted at his forehead with the heel of one hand, scowling deeply. Letting himself get caught up in dark thoughts like that wasn't going to accomplish anything.

"NAK."

The steady, light pattering of his small reptilian comrade finally reached his ears as the red-skilled creature came slowly into view, dancing back and forth in the seat of the absurd spider-walker-contraption Adam had summoned to get himself and that clowny jackass Gamzee here, what felt like months ago back in.... What the heck was it? Ambrosia? Yeah, that place. So god damn colorful and full of absurd animals and such. It felt like one giant fever dream, looking back on it.

"Good lord, I actually summoned this thing.... Dang, I almost forgot about that. Have you really been just sitting around keeping an eye on that thing this whole time?"

"NAK."

"You really are the best friend a time god could ask for."

"NAK."

"Right. Well, best get a move on from here... Gettin' pretty sick and tired of this place." And he hopped into the passenger's seat of the mechanical monstrosity, the small reptilian stand-in pilot scurrying around to settle into the driver's seat with only a "NAK" as per usual. And without further ado they were off. The relatively tiny reptile's piloting skills weren't all that great, but somehow managed to keep the spider-vehicle on a mostly straight course. It was especially remarkable, given his lack of actual hands. Or even thumbs.

Adam busied himself with staring at the medal he'd earned from the Colosseum, pondering over just whether or not it was even anything worth it in the end. He'd managed to learn, from all of this, that death didn't really work quite the same as it did back home...but it was just as impermanent. Little more delay on the whole thing, if his personal measure of time was any judge, but how long it took didn't really bother him much, so much as the actual non-permanent factor of it all. He was very much a fan of not staying dead whenever he inevitably fucked up again. And he had a track record of making astoundingly bad decisions and fucking up in the most spectacular of fashions, so it was really only a matter of time. A loss in a round of mortal kombat wasn't going to be his only run-in with the absurdity of death dreams during however long he was going to be sticking around in the Omniverse, he was pretty damn sure.

But hopefully the next stay in that area would be...a little ways down the road, at the least. No time soon, as it were. It was dark and unpleasant, and lead to nothing but strange dreams.

But aside from this whole learning about death thing, the entire sequence of stupidity and violence had done pretty much nothing for him. Earned him a new enemy from the first round, and terrified him so earnestly he didn't expect to sleep right for a while. And died. And then wound up pulled right back for some inane third place match.

It had forced him to redouble his efforts to pull his old tricks back to use and come up with a new one or two to keep up and save his ass, which was always nice and only boded well for his continued future existence. But more than anything it was one giant pain in the ass. It was almost certainly Gamzee's fault for bringing him here. He was positive of that.

......speaking of which, where the heck was Gamzee, anyway? Or his shouty, angry little pal? Kit-kat? Crab claw? Card-cab? Fuck it who even cared. He was small, angry and always had something derogatory to say. Very much like Adam himself when he was in a bad mood. Which he had been in for most of his stay here. But that was a personal comparison Adam really wasn't ready to go about taking any further. Any similarities between himself and angry trolls were things he wanted to leave for never.

Never was good.

"Alright, buddy... Off to the Nexus and whatnot. We got a meet up to get to. Dunno when the others'll be gettin' there what with time being all weird as hell in this place, so best get to gettin'."

"NAK."

"Yeah the way we came in. Through the weird gate-thing. That way."

"NAK."

"Hell if I know. I had other things on my mind at the time."

"NAK NAK NAK."

"No we're not waiting on them. We're not looking for them. He's a big troll, and so is his pal. They can take care of themselves."

"NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK."

"SHUT UP I DON'T CARE WE'RE LEAVING THEY MIGHT BE PART OF THE GROUP WE'RE GOING TO MEET ANYWAY."

"NAK."

"You are approximately the size of a football. Remember that."

The reptile finally shut up and focused on his driving at that.

".....that may have been uncalled for. Sorry."

"Nak."

"Gonna just....focus on summoning some stuff. Cold weather gear, make some adjustments to some stuff. Got an idea for something that might come in handy."

"NAK NAK."

"Yeah I'll remember something for you to wear..."

"NAK."

"Yeah, yeah, heated stuff. You cold blooded little.... Thing." Adam shook his head in exasperation. Sometimes contending with these silly reptiles and their silly biology was so taxing on his mind. He really envied Rhys for that reason. At least his Consorts hadn't been cold-blooded. Or... Were they? Who's hadn't been cold-blooded? Someone he knew. It... It was Rhys, wasn't it? He didn't have any other friends to speak of, so....

"My head hurts."
