Legend of the Seven Stars - Alex - 03-10-2016

Pitch - This is not a saga or anything like that. Instead, it would be an on-going event. It is designed to be very challenging but also offer the writer some freedom to spin the prompts as they see fit, as well as allowing people to take advantage of connections they may have built with factions.

More importantly, these quests are all designed to be hard. Omni/Underverse-hard. They're on the same level of those two as 'grandiose adventures.' Unlike those two quests, these ones are not as ‘insulated’.  They also have various ways in which you can complete the quest, depending on your character's allegiances and personality.

They're designed so that opponents can potentially invade your quest and take you out, so there's supposed to be a genuine risk involved with partaking in such a quest.

----

Legend of the Seven Stars

In Character: About two years ago, vivid meteor showers were spotted in many of the ‘main’ verses. At the time, the events were viewed in isolation, and it wasn’t until a few stargazers collated their data that they realized the showers had all taken place at the exact same time.

Working together, this group of inter-verse astronomers was able to track down the trajectory of the Camelot meteor shower. What they found was a crash site littered with smoldering chunks of pure omnilium. Alongside the scorched debris was a large flat, blue star nearly the side of a serving table. When touched, this strange object shrank down to the size of a tea plate.

Emanating a soothing aura and a strong power, the scientists took the star to Minas Tirith for sanctuary in Dalaran. With the expectation that there were many more out there, they studied the device and made plans to go look for more. They believe that the star is a piece to a larger puzzle and have since dubbed it a ‘Star Piece.’ They have data on meteor showers in the Vasty Deep, Frozen Fields, Tangled Green, and Endless Dunes that occurred at the same time as the Camelot shower. They have also found reports of bright, chromatic explosions in the Pale Moors and Ashen Steppes on the same day as well. These field agents have been investigating for the last eight months and it is rumored that many of them are close to breakthroughs.

In Coruscant, meanwhile, there are reports that strange occurrences also happened on ‘Star Day,’ but the Empire hasn’t allowed any information to leak.

Seven star pieces, scattered across the Omniverse.

What secrets do they hold?

Out-of-Character

All of the main verses harbor a piece to the puzzle, and there is more than one way that one can go about pursuing this mystery due to the growing interest. All quests, unless otherwise indicated, are of the Extreme Difficulty. All NPCs, unless otherwise indicated, are secondaries.

Doing these quests is considered a high-profile act. Eyes will be on your character and many individuals will be after you.  Engaging in the hunt for a star piece may invoke some unwanted attention, so be ready for that, and most of these quests will end with someone hating you.  All the star pieces are artefacts (with things they do, for the record), so you can be challenged for them like any artefact.

Be ready.

Edit after OP - For clarity, all 'faction allies' you receive count as a collective Tier 2 assist for the duration of the thread.  After that, you'll need to spend OM.

The quests are in their individual threads, but a master list is below:
1.) Red Star Piece -> Ashen Steppes, Nestled in Mount Escorial

a.) Collaborate – Seek out Julius Pepper, the member of the ‘astronomer’s guild’ doing research in the Ashen Steppes. He’ll have a task for you to prove that he can trust you. Once you’ve earned his trust, he’ll tell you about how he’s tracked the trajectory of the star piece to a dormant volcano in the interior of the verse. With his two bodyguards, he’ll join you on the trek there. You can expect resistance from both ‘independent adventurers’ and the Koopa Kingdom, which will place a bounty on you. You will find the star piece inside the mountain itself, guarded by the reanimated corpse of a large dragon. Julius must survive the battle. When you win, he’ll entrust you with care of the star piece. If he perishes, you will be contacted by one of his peers to deliver the artefact to Dalaran for safekeeping. Failure to do so results in a Camelot bounty.

b.) Theft/Solo – Seek out Julius Peppers, subdue him and his bodyguards, and steal his work, using it to track the star piece to Mount Escorial. Expect resistance from others who pursue the star piece. The Koopa Kingdom may offer you assistance in return for the star piece, and failure to do so will result in them putting a price on your head. If you didn’t have the heart to kill the astronomer, you can expect that he will trail you down seeking revenge. Once you finish this quest, you can expect a Camelot bounty when the astronomers piece together the puzzle.

c.) Friend of the Koopas – After obtaining the intelligence through whatever means, you can turn it over to Bowser and Kamek. After some deliberation, Bowser will provide you with a small armed escort for your trip to Mount Escorial. Once you obtain the star piece, Bowser wants to see it for himself. He’ll then entrust you, a friend of the Koopas, to safeguard the star piece alongside the remains of the squad.

2.) Orange Star Piece -> Endless Dunes, Hidden inside the Lonely Ziggurat

a.) Collaborate – Seek out Bud Dupree, an astronomer from Dalaran doing some work in the Town with No Name. He’ll ask you to prove your trust by procuring something from an abandoned dig sight nearby. Once you return, he’ll divulge the results of his research over the last few months. He believes he has tracked the star piece to a landmark called ‘the Lonely Ziggurat’ far out in the Endless Dunes. With his bodyguards, he’ll join you on the trek. Expect resistance from just about everyone and everything once you leave Roland’s careful eye. The Lonely Ziggurat itself is a strange, black temple hidden with traps and old terrors. You’ll eventually find the star piece in the central burial chamber, where its strange powers have reanimated an ancient pharaoh. The creature must be returned to oblivion so the piece may be recovered. Bud must survive the battle. When you win, he’ll entrust you with care of the star piece. If he perishes, you will be contacted by one of his peers to deliver the artefact to Dalaran for safekeeping. Failure to do so results in a Camelot bounty.

b.) Theft/Solo – Seek out Bud Dupree in the Town with No Name. Subdue him and his bodyguards. After that, you can rifle through his work and discover that the star piece is possibly inside the Lonely Ziggurat. Expect resistance from psychos, raiders, and all other filth out in the Endless Dunes. If you didn’t have the heart to kill the astronomer, you can expect that he will trail you down seeking revenge. Once you finish this quest, you can expect a Camelot bounty and a Town with No Name Bounty when the astronomers piece together the puzzle.

C.) Town with No Name Ally - After obtaining the intel through whatever means, you can turn it over to Roland. After a conversation, he’ll determine that whatever the star piece is, it will only bring more trouble to the Endless Dunes. He wants you to recover it and then get it the hell out of the Dunes. He’ll scrounge up some people from town and some equipment to go with you. If you betrayed the astronomer, Roland will see to it that he cools in a jail cell until after you’ve finished your mission.

3.) Yellow Star Piece -> Tangled Green, in the Old Bog

a.) Collaborate – Seek out Luke Kuechley, an astronomer from Dalaran doin some work in the sanctuary of the Hidden Temple. He’ll ask you to prove your trust by gathering some materials from a nearby tract of dangerous forest. Once you return, he’ll divulge the results of his research over the last few months. He believes he has tracked the star piece to a region called the Old Bog, a primordial tract of forest deep into the Tangled Green. With his bodyguards, he’ll join you on the trek. Expect resistance from the natives, as well as the Ninja Village, which has taken an interest in the artefact as well. Once you make it to the Bog, you’ll have to navigate into its interior, where you’ll find the star piece. Unfortunately, the star piece’s strange powers have resurrected the partially reserved remains of a carnivorous dinosaur that drowned in the peat bog years prior. Luke must survive the battle. When you win, he’ll entrust you with care of the star piece. If he perishes, you will be contacted by one of his peers to deliver the artefact to Dalaran for safekeeping. Failure to do so results in a Camelot bounty. Be aware that this quest will result in a bounty from the Ninja Village.

b.) Theft/Solo – Seek out Luke Kuechley at the Hidden Temple. Subdue him and his bodyguards. After that, you can rifle through his work and discover that the star piece is possibly inside the Old Bog. You will have to fight your way out of the Hidden Temple. The Ninjas will seek you out, offering you assistance in return for the artefact. Turning them down or betraying them will result in a bounty. If you didn’t have the heart to kill the astronomer, you can expect that he will trail you down seeking revenge. Once you finish this quest, you can expect a Camelot bounty when the astronomers piece together the puzzle.

c.) Friend of the Ninajs – After obtaining the intelligence through whatever means, the ninjas will request you return to their village. Following a meeting with their leader, she will entrust you with a group of elite ninjas to obtain the star piece. Once you find the piece, the ninjas will entrust you with safeguarding it. The ninjas who survived the ordeal will accompany you.

4.) Green Star Piece -> Frozen Fields, Beyond the Mountains of Madness

a.) Collaborate – Seek out Brandon Marshall, who is operating at Dwarveholm. He’ll ask you to complete a task to prove your trust and worth. Once you complete his assignment, he’ll share with you that he traced the trajectory of the star piece to somewhere beyond the Mountain of Madness, a frosted mountain range deep in the interior of the verse. Along with his bodyguards, he’ll accompany you on the trek. Having turned down assistance from the dwarves, Brandon expects they might still trail your group. Expect resistance from trolls, dwarf assassins, and the Frozen Fields wealth of inhumanity. Beyond the Mountain of Madness, you’ll find entrance into a strange ruin filled with bizarre technology and the traces of some sort of alien origin. The star piece is deep into this ruin, but its powers have reanimated a horde of terrible monsters that blur the line between human and octopod. Brandon must survive the battle. When you win, he’ll entrust you with care of the star piece. If he perishes, you will be contacted by one of his peers to deliver the artefact to Dalaran for safekeeping. Failure to do so results in a Camelot bounty. Be aware that this quest will result in a bounty from the trolls.

A1.) Collaborate (Dwarven Ally) – If you have finished the Dwarf Faction quest, the dwarves will send a squadron of veteran warriors with you. You must return after you collect the artefact to show King Bruenor, but he will leave the artefact in your safekeeping. He’ll also assign the squad to you as bodyguards.

b.) Theft/Solo – Seek out Brandon Marshall, who is operating at Dwarveholm. Subdue him and steal his work, which will allow you to trace the location of the star piece to beyond the Mountains of Madness. If needed, fight your way out of Dwarveholm (either way, they’ll place a bounty on you). The trolls will offer you help in return for the artefact, and if you turn them down, they’ll attack you. If you didn’t have the heart to kill the astronomer, you can expect that he will trail you down seeking revenge. Once you finish this quest, you can expect a Camelot bounty when the astronomers piece together the puzzle.

B1.) Theft (Troll Ally) – If you have finished the Troll Faction quest, the trolls will send a squadron of veteran warriors with you. You may even seek them out PRIOR to going to dwarveholm for the extra muscle in infiltrating the town and getting the star piece intel. At the end of the quest, you must return to Zul’gurand to show the artefact to Zul’jin. He will then ensure its safekeeping to you, a champion of the trolls. You may bring the survivors of the troll squad with you.

5.) Blue Star Piece -> Camelot

A.) Collaborate (Moderate Quest or Easy Quest if you have completed the Dalaran Faction Quest) – Seek out the astronomer’s guild in Dalaran. They will ask you to accomplish a task for them to prove you can be trusted. Once you accomplish this, they will share with you their knowledge of the star pieces, helping you to cut through the gossip you may have heard. They reveal that they have one of the pieces that landed in Camelot and that you may have heard of their operatives in the other verses. If you assist them in gathering the others, they promise you may partake in whatever knowledge they gain.

---This quest may be done multiple times by different primes. It does not need to be done prior to attempting any artefact quest.

B.) Theft/Solo – You know that the Dalaran astronomers are hiding a powerful relic called a star piece. You endeavor to make it your own, whether this is through subterfuge or violence. Regardless of your decision and execution, this quest will result in bounties in Dalaran and Camelot and make it impossible for you to collaborate with any of the remaining astronomers. You will also have to fight your way out of Dalaran (and possibly all of Camelot). This quest is slightly more difficult than the others as you must interact with the Storyteller to escape with your life. There is no way to escape completely unknown--you will be a wanted criminal.

C.) Empty Chairs at Empty Tables - In the event that the astronomers are destroyed by villains or assassins, you'll discover that they left a copy of their work with Dumbledore. It is possible to earn his trust (a task made easier by those who complete the Dalaran faction quest) and have him divulge the information to you. He might even offer you some assistance in tracking down whoever slew the astronomer guild.

6.) Indigo Star Piece -> Pale Moors, at the Dark Marshes

A.) Collaborate – Seek out Justin Houston, the Dalaran astronomer operating in the Pale Moors. He has a camp a few miles outside of Darkshire. After completing a task to gain his trust and prove your worth, he’s found enough evidence to believe that there is a star piece far into the interior of the Moors, near the swamps and marshes north of the Black Gate. With his bodyguards (he has the most of all the astronomers for obvious reasons), he and you will set out on the campaign across the Pale Moors. Expect heavy resistance from not just the normal horrors of the verse but also from the drow, from Dracula, and any other opportunistic adventurers. After the long journey, you must venture into the marshes to find the star piece protected by the reanimated corpse of tenement-sized colossuses. Justin must survive the battle. When you win, he’ll entrust you with care of the star piece. If he perishes, you will be contacted by one of his peers to deliver the artefact to Dalaran for safekeeping. Failure to do so results in a Camelot bounty. This quest will earn you a bounty from Dracula’s Army.

A1.) Once you have befriended Houston, you can journey to Darkshire. As a Defender of Darkshire, the senior triumvir, Dobson Skendor, is willing to provide you with a squad of soldiers to help acquire this strange and potentially powerful artefact. Once you obtain the star piece, he asks that you return to Darkshire, where he’ll like to see its power for himself. After this second audience, he will entrust you with the artefact, as he knows you have the city’s best interests at heart.

B.) Theft/Solo – Seek out Justin Houston, an astronomer operating in the Pale Moors. Subdue him and his large group of talented bodyguards. You may then steal his work in tracing the star piece to some swamps deep in the Pale Moors. Along the way, you can expect to be harassed by drow, Dracula-affiliated monsters, and the general creatures that inhabit the Moors. If you didn’t have the heart to kill the astronomer, you can expect that he will trail you down seeking revenge. Once you finish this quest, you can expect a Camelot bounty when the astronomers piece together the puzzle.

B1.) Follower of Dracula – If you have completed the Dracula faction quest, you can take the stolen intelligence to your lord Dracula. He will impart you with a small horde of monsters to protect you on your trek into the Pale Moors. After you acquire the star piece, he will leave it in your care with the understanding that it is his, not yours. He will permit you to keep what remains of the monsters as guards.

7.) Violet Star Piece -> Vasty Deep, in the Deep

A.) Collaborate – Seek out Jadeveon Clowney, one of the Dalaran astronomers who is operating on Cinnibar Island. Once you meet him, he’ll have a task for you to gain his trust and prove your worth. After completing this task, he’ll share the results of his research with you—a star piece that crashed into the ocean further into the verse. Although he can’t account for the drift or tides, he has some coordinates for where he thinks it may have landed. With him and his bodyguards, you set out on a small boat to the location. Along the way be prepared to deal with the dangers of the ocean and the threat of others vying for the same prize, including the Liberation Front and the Imperial Navy. When you arrive near the coordinates, you are stunned to see a large wooden boat with black sails bobbing in the waters. The boat turns toward you and with strange speed, overtakes you. What follows is an intense battle with the reanimated crew of this ship, which at closer inspection appears to have spent years on the bottom of the ocean. Jadeveon must survive the battle. When you win, you’ll discover the star piece on the pirate ship, and he’ll entrust you with care of the star piece. If he perishes, you will be contacted by one of his peers to deliver the artefact to Dalaran for safekeeping. Failure to do so results in a Camelot bounty. Completion of this quest will result in a bounty with the Empire and all its holdings (Costa del Sol, Carrefore, Imperial Navy).

B.) Theft/Solo – Seek out Jadeveon Clowney, who is operating at Cinnibar Island. Subdue him and his bodyguards. After that, you can rifle through his work and discover coordinates for where the star piece was projected to have crashed. The inhabitants of Cinnibar Island will offer you assistance in return for the artefact. Turning them down or betraying them will not result in a bounty but will make you disliked by them. If you didn’t have the heart to kill the astronomer, you can expect that he will trail you down seeking revenge. Once you finish this quest, you can expect a Camelot bounty when the astronomers piece together the puzzle. The Empire will also place a bounty on you as well.

C.) Friend of Cinnibar – Obtain the intel throughout whatever means. Mewtwo will request an audience with you about the star piece. He will express his concern that the artefact must be kept out of the hands of the Empire and their Navy. He’ll provide you with a group of Pokémon to accompany you to the coordinates, as well as a vessel. Once you defeat the undead pirates and claim the star piece, you must return to Cinnibar. Mewtwo, having looked at the artefact, remains stalwart that it must be kept out of the hands of the vile. He entrusts you, a friend of the island, the guard the star piece.

8.) ??? -> Coruscant (Easy Quest – Must have finished Empire Faction Quest) – Through the grapevine, you’ve heard of the star pieces. You also heard that something happened in Coruscant at the same time. As a result of curiosity, you set out to Coruscant to investigate. Unless you are on their payroll, you can expect to be turned back at the doors. If you are a member of the empire, than they will send you off to acquire some reports from Tier 3. When you come back, they’ll usher you into a closed room. At this point, the Storyteller will reveal to you a dark secret related to the star pieces.

---

D.) One for All and All for One (this is an option for all quests)
If you’re lucky, you may find the astronomers just as they are dealing with another prime. At this point, you can either join the other prime or fight them to the death, the astronomer won’t mind.

Once someone has allied with the astronomer or stolen their information, you will have to go through extra means to try and follow the trail: You come across the empty astronomer camp. It may have been packed up nicely or left behind in a rush (with possibly some traces of a struggle). Either way, there’s no one home. You are behind on the chase, but not all is lost for you. Gossip travels quickly and there are eyes in many places in the Omniverse, as well as people who can see beyond their sight. You may even find an angry, bruised astronomer chasing someone who stole his work. Do whatever you need to do to discover where the astronomer went or the thief who killed him.

With any luck, you can catch up to the other person. At that point, you can either join them or fight them. Losing one of these fights can result in death. Leaving someone alive gives them the option to continue trailing you.
RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Sam - 03-10-2016

Really excited about involving Caira in this. It could be fun to find ways to incorporate the quest with friends and while obviously you'd want to keep the star for yourself, it seems like this is angled at a longer timeframe, so you could team up for "doubles" and do two with your partner and split the reward (assuming 2) or even reach an agreement like "I'll hunt a bounty with you if you help me find the star" kind of thing - which I'm considering especially for TBG because we have experience. Of course bounties could turn into a long adventure, and if you lost you wouldn't want to be carrying a star to get stolen, but it's nice to brainstorm and discuss ideas.

Tldr- yay.

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Sam - 03-10-2016

QQ: can both of our characters try to complete the quest? Or would some kind of trade/team up be out of the question if at the end they reached an agreement and one of them was to keep the stars and the other got something that was "equal in value"?

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Omni - 03-10-2016

In quests like this, or any kind of saga event or fight, you have to pick one and one only of your characters to participate with.

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Chloe Price - 03-10-2016

What do the Artefacts do?

...I honestly will attempt to grab them no matter what they are, but I just want to know.

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Alex - 03-10-2016

Earn one.

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Chloe Price - 03-10-2016

I plan on it.

The Camelot one, through theft, murder, and maybe arson.

Joker's gonna have so much fun getting this Artefact!

Also, for that 'maybe arson' part, would it be okay if Joker summons a match before he goes in, and attempts to burn the place down when he has what he needs?

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Demetri Malius - 03-11-2016

Let it be known that those in the thieve's guild will be readily acting upon this, immediately heading after them after their current missions.  :frogbon:

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Guu - 03-11-2016

Considering getting Ambrosia in on this, working for the ninjas most likely.

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Demetri Malius - 03-11-2016

One question, can secondaries from your character attempt to get one of the stars or must it be your prime?

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Dark Link - 03-11-2016

Proto may overrule me on this, but I'm going to say no. Secondaries cannot possess artefacts, so you wouldn't be able to have a secondary complete the quest in your Prime's stead.

You could have them 'attempt' the quest, if you so desire, but that would purely be RP fodder and the character wouldn't be able to obtain the artefact.

So would that mean a secondary could find it and report to your Prime or something along those lines? I would suppose not? And then what about a secondary accompanied by a Prime if not the first?

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Gildarts - 03-11-2016

How would approaching the quests and writing them with a partner effect the word requirement ?

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Guu - 03-11-2016

Let me reiterate, I'll most likely have Guu pursue the Yellow Star Piece for the ninjas. I'll look into starting this after Pirate Man.

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Bandit With No Name - 03-11-2016

Did I hear, "Adventure"?

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Sans - 03-11-2016

I partially want to get Ballad into this, since I'm already in the fields and it would be a good place to go to next with a squad of dwarves.

On the other hand, high profile. Do not want. Especially now.

Well, if you want, you can have a secondary assist a Prime in his search for the artefact. But again, that would just be RP fodder. A Prime would still have to search for it themselves (or be involved in the search, I guess) and it would still be the Prime who would obtain the artefact.

I'm going to leave this question to Proto, since I'm uncertain if he had some sort of compensation in mind for partners who don't get the artefact.

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Alex - 03-11-2016

The standard rules of 'more than one person attempting quest' apply here, much as they do to Omni-quest or other quests.

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Jacob - 03-11-2016

Jessica Jones will be going for the Green Star Piece in the Frozen Fields once she's done with the dwarf faction quest.

Ballad, if you wanted to work together instead of competing, I wouldn't be opposed.

RE: Legend of the Seven Stars - Jak Mar - 03-11-2016

I'd like to try to do this as well.
