Sprite Draft's and Sprite Art - Corporal Light - 12-29-2015 I don't know why, but I suddenly found myself asking "Huh, I wonder if I could draw sprite art?" So, I decided to pull up Paint and draw some sprites. I might do some more of them to get some talent into it, as it's actually pretty fun to do. So, here's a link to a 360 x 348 version of a 64 x 64 Sprite. https://www.dropbox.com/s/bm9m65v0p79li ... 8.png?dl=0 I was originally trying to draw a spider, but I only managed to get to the head and torso. Mostly because the 64 x 64 space didn't leave me room. I also experimented a bit with the colors to create shadows, and I overall like the result of that. My first real attempt at Sprite Art starts with Ballad's Revolver. Screwed around with lighting and color changes to make the buttons more glassy. Any advice for future tries is also helpful. (Just in case that image doesn't show, a link to an Imgur one is here https://imgur.com/gallery/bPOBxTq/new RE: Sprite Draft's and Sprite Art - ADventuresVDO - 03-20-2016 That looks pretty good! I meant to post earlier, but computer issues and what not- ANYWAY, I really like the overall shape of the gun. It looks like a design some real gun designer would use for one, and the buttons definitely look glassy. My main point of criticism is the shading. You could give this gun a lot more depth by adding some shading to make it look rounder at certain points, and sometimes it would be easier to shade if you gave a few more lines here and there. -You can create depth for round objects by gradually growing lighter toward where the light is, which I typically put somewhere above my drawings. -You can create texture by analyzing how many other objects of a similar texture tend to fade to black and trying to replicate it, like looking at how a leather handle on a gun is shaded and trying to make it look like that on your own gun. -If you want to make your pixel art look more detailed, I would recommend you start with very basic shading, like 2-3 different shades, and then become more detailed from there. I do this sometimes when I just can't get the shading down pat at first, and it certainly helps. Here is an example of my recreation of this same gun using higher detailed shading (The pixels may be off since I shrunk it down, but I left the general shape and glass buttons alone). ![]() I got most of this from mimicking the general shading from a few pictures of guns as well as general shading tricks I have learned over time. I hope this helps in some way, my teaching skills are terrible. RE: Sprite Draft's and Sprite Art - Tartaros - 03-20-2016 Ooooh... sprites! I've made a few myself. Please note these examples are made of scaled up screenshots though, because the actual sprites themselves are like 35x35 tiny things. Anyway... without any further introduction, my spritey things wot I dun did! Okor's Plaguesword ![]() Tartaros' Bolter ![]() Tartaros' Volkite Pistol ![]() aaaannnnd... A generic assault rifle! ![]() As you can see I am extremely skilled in the field of tiny little block pictures. :frog: RE: Sprite Draft's and Sprite Art - ADventuresVDO - 03-20-2016 I may post some images here eventually. My computer sucks too much right now for me to do squat, though. |
