Laffs - Kakashi Hatake - 10-19-2015

So lately I've been really into stand-up comedy. I've watched an ungodly amount of stand-up specials and spent more than I'd like to admit going to live shows. I paid for a Google Play Music subscription almost exclusively so that I could play entire albums of stand-up at a time. I listen to it while I cook, I burn the midnight oil watching it. More than half of my Youtube subscriptions and recommendations are comedians or people that re-post their clips. It's amazing.

So the topic of this thread is obviously stand-up comedy. I admit that I'm selfishly trying to farm ideas for new people to check out, but I figured it would also be fun to just discuss in general.

It's WAY too hard to pick a favorite of anything for me, so I'm just gonna go off the top of my head. Here are some things that I would recommend:

Favorite this month:
Tom Segura's Completely Normal
Sample:

The best special that I've seen in the past month. Had me almost in tears multiple times. It's on Netflix if you've got an hour to spare.

Favorite this year:
Jim Jefferies
Sample from Bare

Found this guy on Netflix and watched all of his specials in one night. Really funny guy with the right blend of vulgarity and wit. Also, his American accent is fucking perfect.

Favorite in-general:
Patton Oswalt
Sample from Finest Hour

Gun to my head, I'd choose Patton as one of my top 5 favorite comedians. His blend of surreal, observational and black comedy along with his nerdy hobbies is amazing.

I've never see anything by Izzard, but YES to the rest. Some of my favorites. I've seen Louie and Minchin live and they do not disappoint. Kevin Hart is also hilarious, he has great energy. As for Dylan Moran, all I know of him is that he was great in Shaun of the Dead. xD I'll definitely watch some of his stuff.

@Connor; I can't bring myself to sit through anything by Brian Reagan. I saw a clip years ago and his body language/tone irritated me for some reason. I'll have to give him another shot though, some of my favorite comedians cite him as an influence so maybe I just caught a bad set?

My recommendation right now:

Re: Laffs - Zack Fair - 11-24-2015

Have to post this with the mention of Patton Oswalt. Don't know if anyone watches Parks and Rec, but he played a guy that did a filibuster in one episode. This is him improvising that scene in it's entirety, with a little bit of help from Amy Poehler.

He could totally write an Omniverse saga.

When I was younger I absolutely loved Ron White, and a lot of his stuff still gets me.

I don't watch Parks and Rec, but I remember this popping up in my youtube suggestions a while back. 100% Oswalt gold for sure. I love the "PLEASE LET ME FINISH." when he's cut off. So great! The man is a genius.

I agree, Ron White is pretty great. He's easily the best of the Blue Collar bunch. The others are decent but he's the only one without a super cringey gimmick (unless you count alcoholism).

Re: Laffs - Gamzee Makara - 11-24-2015

BO! Bo's such a boss, he really doesn't get enough recognition. I love how quick and off the cuff his remarks are but he still manages to completely shut them down. Side note, if you have a twitter you should DEFINITELY follow him. He's just genuinely always funny evidently.

This and the Badman video where he played Penguin were my first bits of exposure to him, and I'm very glad for it. That said, I highly recommend Parks and Recreation to anyone with access to a Netflix account, though you need to start at the beginning of season 3, or at the worst middle of season 2, because it took the show a long time to find itself. That's on my top list of funny Netflix series, along with How I Met Your Mother, The Office, Arrested Development, and Scrubs.

Yea, I loved them all growing up, but as I got a bit older and wiser I kind of saw through them. They slam dunked their targeted demographic though. Ron White is the only one I can still watch, but he covers the spread.

One more for you. Jerry Clower is some old school country boy comedy.

Here's another good one. I find it especially funny, considering a good portion of my family/friends can be considered rednecks. The best comedians are ones that can laugh at themselves.

RE: Laffs - Mark - 04-04-2016

I'm bringing this thread back to life because it's wonderful. I'm thoroughly enjoying these clips. MORE LAUGHS.
