Distant memories - Weiss Schnee - 10-08-2015

“Are you out of your mind, Ozpin!”
Yang hadn’t found a voice pitch below “yelling at the top of her lungs”, since Ozpin first cancelled team RWBY’s mission today. Weiss couldn’t blame her. She’d never felt even a fraction of the anger she felt right now.
“I am merely making sure that, after wasting the life of one brave huntress in my own walls, I don’t waste the lives of three more in an attempt to find her.”
“She’s not dead! There’s no sign or evidence of a struggle, ozpin. The case is still open.”
Blake had managed to keep her cool far better than Yang, but one look at her face - and her prominently displayed fangs - made it clear that she was hanging onto reason by a thread.

“And she’s been missing for three months. She may still be alive - I will grant that a possibility exists - but it isn’t high, Blake. I know none of you here want to hear this - I would likely be no calmer in your positions - This hunt has become a draw on our limited budget, and on the time of three of the most skilled huntresses in beacon.”

Yang had had enough. In an instant, she charged forward, grabbing the Beacon headmaster by his shirt and lifting him off the ground like he weighed nothing.
“Are you telling me I should go ahead and [i]Give up on my baby sister![/i[“
Ozpin did not attempt to loosen her grip, but merely sighed.
“Not for the first time in my life, Yang… I am asking another huntress to face the reality of her and her comrade’s life choices. Your sister knew the risks when she joined, and the bravery she showed in the line of duty will never be forgotten.”
“She. Isn’t. Dead!” Yang screamed, and ozpin found himself thrown at the wall of his own office. His aura stopped the blow from being any more than an inconvenience, but the pain on the man’s face was there.

“Whether or not she is dead… I’m sorry, miss Xiao Long, but I am afraid I cannot change the fact that I cannot justify this spending to my own superiors, anymore. What’s more, you three have been missing out on education and experience while attempting to find her. While trying to find one young woman, I have been actively making a choice to use up resources that could have saved many others.

Yang’s breathing was audible. “You were the one who brought her here to beacon. She wasn’t even 16 yet, Ozpin, you bastard!”
Ozpin’s face softened. “You’re right. And I don’t doubt that it will haunt me to my dying days, Yang. I must take full responsibility-”
“No.”
Weiss finally spoke up.
“I was sleeping two feet above her. I didn’t even notice a thing.”
Blake cast a sympathetic glance her way. “I didn’t either, even though my hearing’s better than yours… Weiss….”
But Weiss was already opening the door.

Ozpin’s voice cut in. “Ms. Schnee, please, hear me out.”
“I am being logical. I’m off to go find my partner. Just like I’m logically obligated to do.”
“You can be expelled from beacon, and waste years of life chasing after a ghost, or you can think this through, and-”
“I’ve thought this through. I’m about expelled, Ozpin, so enough with the lectures. I’m going to go find her, with or without Beacon’s help.”
She could dimly hear Ozpin say something else to her, but Weiss had already shut the door, and the man's voice didn't carry well through the doors of his office.
Weiss hoped Yang punched him.
