[Switching Characters] Helel - Red - 01-14-2017 Character name: Helel ben Schachar Character source: custom Character history: Once considered the most beautiful and exalted man in the universe, Helel fell from grace after having an affair with one of his wife's mortal creations. He pled for forgiveness, but received none; instead, he was cast from his home, to suffer a damnation of eternal separation from his beloved. But before he reached his destination, a black hole warped him to another dimension . . . Physical Description: ![]() Helel has the figure of a model—6'3” and 165 lbs.—and a chiseled masterpiece for a face. In his normal state, his hair is dirty blond, and his eyes are a blue with a green tint. Usually, he can be seen wearing charcoal armor over obsidian blue underclothes; a cloak of the same color stretches down to his boots. Stats: ATK: 1 DEF: 2 SPD: 2 TEC: 5 Starting Proficiencies: (1000) Ranged Proficiency (1000) Starting Powers: (3400) Telepathy (1500), Insight (1600), Starting Moves: (300) Influence (300) Influence With the powers of Insight and Telepathy at his disposal, Helel manipulates his subject to do his bidding* * Helel must be able to depict the target's face for him to trigger the move, and is only successful against one target at a time (unless upgraded in the future). * When using this move against unimportant secondaries (role-play fodder situations), the effects last until death, amnesiac trauma, or until the secondary leaves Helel's line of sight; when used against other Primes the following rules apply (regulations on duration and specifics on what can/can't be done will be communicated between the involved parties): - If Helel's TEC is lower than his target's then the move is nullified - If Helel's TEC is equal to his target's then this mo has a minimal effect (breaks target's train of though thought, and/or tempts target) - If Helel's TEC is higher than his target then this move deeply persuades the target (strong thoughts, may or may not be persuaded but the intention manifests) - If Helel's TEC is double his target's then this move works almost instantly and completely. * In a PvP setting, this move only works (if at all--check the above "potency" laws) for a brief amount of time, and cannot be used for god-mode scenarios (convincing someone to stab their self, or to relinquish personal belongings and give up the fight), nor can it be used to influence a Super Move; it can only be used to influence actions such as, but not limited to: convincing someone to stop charging a move, dissuading the accuracy and/or strength of a move being used against him. This can also be used to influence a secondary whose face is within Helel's range of sight, but only simple commands can be used (attack, shield me, etc). While concentrating on a target, Helel is unable to attack or defend until whatever influencing command he attempts processes/fails. This move cannot be used against other Primes in a PvP setting until the following have been acquired: Enhanced Senses, Debuff Proficiency RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Jade Harley - 01-14-2017 You must start with either the Ranged or Physical Strength Proficiency, or both. For Telepathy, I'd suggest the Ranged Proficiency. Quote:Starting Proficiencies: RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Red - 01-14-2017 Blargh, its been a while. Made the necessary change. RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Jade Harley - 01-14-2017 Thank you! Now, as for your move.... Quote:Influence (300) – With the powers of Insight and Telepathy at his disposal, Helel manipulates his subject to do his bidding*. [This is only effective against secondaries; permission must be given to have a successful response towards Primes.] What is the area of effect? Must he concentrate on the subject for a certain amount of time for his hold to take effect? Must he look at them to focus his power, or "aim" it somehow (since you don't have the Homing proficiency yet, the answer to this should probably be 'yes')? Can he move around while performing it? Can he manipulate only one subject at a time? What is the extent of his control over them-- are they aware of what's taking place around them (puppetry, y'know), or are they mindless zombies? Do they have any free will whatsoever? How long does this effect last, and must he concentrate on keeping other minds under his control? Remember, there needs to be some kind of drawback, like fatigue! This kind of Move would likely differ in strength depending on an opponent's TEC, like this: Quote:It's okay to use stats as a measuring stick to determine a move's effectiveness, (for example, saying that a hypnotic move is more effective when your TEC is higher than your opponent's TEC) but try to make this realistic and gradual, as with the Telepathy power description, rather than an either/or affect. For example, saying that with slightly higher TEC, your opponent may get drowsy, whereas with double their TEC, they can almost be put to sleep entirely. This makes it more fun for the writer as well. Adding what I've bolded should work. Going back to my free will/awareness question, any difference in effect could be the outcome of higher or lower TEC. RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Red - 01-14-2017 gotcha. gave it an extensive update. If you still need more lemme know. I know this type of territory is murky. I'm gonna have to nix that little part. Quote:- If Helel's TEC is double his target's then this move works almost instantly and completely. Nooo, you can't do that! That's pretty OP. The thing is, a lot of the stuff you want to do seems like roleplay fodder! But other parts are combat-oriented.... interrupting a move, for instance, or altering the accuracy/success of a move. I might have to get Omni or Alex to take a look, Telepathy is a very tricky power. Thank you for being so patient, I appreciate it a lot. RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Red - 01-14-2017 I wiped away the part about persuading a victor's choice, and cleaned up some of the secondary specifics. If you need more let me know RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Alex - 01-15-2017 Yo, I will post some thoughts on this tomorrow morning once I had some coffee. In the meantime, Jade, do you mind getting Halel's roster (minus the move in question) and logs set up? RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Jade Harley - 01-15-2017 Sure thing! Name: Helel Level: 1 Spent OM: 4400 Proficiencies: (1000) Ranged Proficiency (1000) Powers: (3400/8000); Telepathy (1500), Insight (1600), Moves: (); Super Moves (0): Transformations: Assists: Items: Artefacts: None Consumed OM (0); (for consumed items or OM permanently lost from respecs, etc) Bases: Unlocks: Base stats ATK: 1 DEF: 2 SPD: 2 TEC: 5 Aaaaand here's your log, Helel! (X) Please remember to link both your log and roster in your mini profile (the space below your avatar)! RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Alex - 01-15-2017 (01-14-2017, 03:32 PM)Helel Wrote: Influence Second bullet point - I'm not opposed to this (since, game-wise, anyone could summon a slave secondary that's preprogrammed to do their bidding. But you'll have to note that this 'Influence' wouldn't allow Helel to like, see or control that individual when they are beyond Helel's range of sight. If you'd like to, you can buy Enhanced Senses down the road and use that range instead. Question - Can secondaries controlled in this manner be used offensively? I'm not opposed to the idea, but if that's something you want, we'd have to spell that out as well. Quote:when used against other Primes the following rules apply (regulations on duration and specifics on what can/can't be done will be communicated between the involved parties): As written, I'm not sure I have much of an issue with this Move. Unfortunately, you need Debuff Proficiency, because -- when you use this against primes -- that's what it is. Your just momentarily debuffing them. That's kind of why I was steering you toward not involving a PvP element to this move and focusing just on the secondary thing. Need to add - Drawback. Whether it's mental fatigue for Helel or something else, there needs to be a drawback of some sort. Quote:This can also be used to influence a secondary whose face is within Helel's range of sight, but would only last the duration of the post, and is limited to one secondary per fight. XD you read my mind, I guess On this part... I'm going to ask that you state that this is limited to simple commands: 'Help me.' 'Attack him.' That way, thematically, this would fall under the 'mindless summon' Move set. And the fact that it requires a nearby secondary seems like a nice way to balance it out in lieu of fatigue or concentration or other factors. ~As an aside, I'm going to recommend that you just take the secondary/summon aspect of this Move at the start (maybe call it 'Dominate') and then grab Debuff and the PvP part. Does all this make sense? RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Red - 01-15-2017 I modified the move with your input applied. I added the bolded part at the end because I'd like to be able to use this move for story fodder purposes until I have the required powers/proficiencies to execute it on a PvP level. RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Red - 01-15-2017 Also, I wanted to know if I could perhaps swap out Insight for Enhanced Senses (tier2), which is a difference of 100 OM (more). RE: [Switching Characters] Helel - Alex - 01-15-2017 For now, I'm good. I'll let you know if I think you should modify anything else, and Omni might likewise do the same. Just be open to that/not offended if you have to tweak something or add further descriptors down the road. I should have mentioned this in the OP, but the Move would be 600, as it allows you to: Disrupt Primes + Use Secondaries as combat aides. I believe you can afford to spend 600 on it, but if you'd rather buy it in halves, that's your call. I'mma close this case, since you're good. Let me know if you have any other help. |
