Decisions, decisions... - Undyne - 10-01-2015 As some of you probably know from my incessant derpings on the CBox, once I reach the 8k OM mark (or perhaps earlier, I might donate at some point really) I would like to make a second character for use in the Omniverse. My issue is, because we're currently limited to 2 and I am kind of a person that wants it all, I have a hard time taking a decision. Anyone want to help out? I'd be grateful! Below's just a list of potential characters that I've thought of, with my personal pros and cons. Hurrr you can just summon them as secondaries. I don't really want to because secondaries are quite weak compared to primaries. It wouldn't feel right. The Emperor of Mankind (Warhammer 40k) Saw that coming, did you? :omni: But yes, the Emprah. From what little I know of this character, I really like him and think he would be cool to put into the Omniverse. It's a character I can see less frozen into his canonical goals because they are so broad ("Serve humanity") and while he would obviously need toning down in terms of power it could be a character with great depths. Pros: He's the Emprah! And stuff. Also looks like Jesus wearing armor. Could summon cool characters as secondaries. Cons: There's Space Marine NPCs in Coruscant already, so there would be clashes of canon. Also as I am a WH40k noob (still reading the Horus heresy books, #scrub) I don't know a lot about the Emperor outside of what I read in wikis. And I'd have to tone his strength down a lot probably, which would suck. The Witch of Izalith (Dark Souls) Like most Dark Souls characters, she's an obscure one with little lore about her. Tl;dr, she was one of the three first gods next to Lord Gwyn and Gravelord Nito, she was the first Pyromancer who passed her knowledge down to her children and several students, eventually to the Chosen Undead. Canonically she was consumed by her creation when she tried to replicate the First Flame, which was in danger of burning out. Pros: Not much is known about her so I have a lot of creative freedom. Badass pyromancer, check. Interesting lore, check. Cons: Alexyana already kind of takes a fire route so the characters might wind up sort of similar. Also, she only appears very briefly in a cinematic so there are next to no depictions of her and her abilities. And because Dark Souls has the shittiest graphics ever I can't disguise my character as her and take a screenshot because it'd make eyes bleed. Knight Artorias (Dark Souls) Such an amazing character. Many tears were shed in memory of his heroic deeds... and when thinking back to the hard-as-balls battle that he gave us in the AotA DLC. Also one of the deepest characters of Dark Souls. Which is to say, not very. Pros: There's a lot of material to work with - animations for his attacks, background, items... it's all there. Also, power-wise he would fit in fairly well. Cons: Artorias is a huge victim of the Dark Souls "this lore depresses me" syndrome - which kind of applies to everyone and everything in the game anyway, although Artorias has this much more than most other characters. He could do nothing but save his wolf from the Abyss and even then had to sacrifice himself, becoming corrupted in the process. He's unable to control his body anymore. He failed against forces greater than him. There's even a "Prepare to cry" video about him. Garrosh Hellscream (World of Warcraft) Lok'tar ogar, Victory or Death! Seriously, of the few characters of WoW that I know, Garrosh easily takes the crown. Yeeeah, Sylvanas, you're second. He's such an awesome character despite what some people say. Also, when he's a Warchief, bald and stuff, standing around in Orgrimmar, he looks smexy with those rippling muscles and the little piercing eyes. Pros: Everybody who knows the Warcraftverse knows Garrosh, at least since the MoP and WoD extensions for the game. He's a character with more depth than some claim, and I think that the Omniverse would be perfect to break open that tough-guy-Warchief shell of his and bring out the amazing character beneath. Cons: Well, Thrall already exists in the Omniverse. And Garrosh is a similar fighting type to Alexyana (huge endurance, rather powerful attacks, moves respectably fast, little technique) so he might not be all that fun. Plus, I am not familiar enough with WoW to be fully comfortable with Garrosh's lore. Nonon Jakuzure (Kill la Kill) Yup! For some reason I like the character, mainly for her cool fighting style. I dunno, I felt like she deserves a spot in my list, though she might turn out to be boring. Pros: Music-based fighting style! I could link youtube music videos for days in the middle of an RP fight! But seriously, her fighting style is quite unique and, while KLK brings facepalming to a new level (flute-shaped missiles? A subwoofer tank?) it's also fun.Cons: Like several Kill la Kill characters, Nonon is shallow. I feel like she's tied with Hoka Inumata for the Elite 4 character to get the least screentime, so that makes things meh. And like all Kill la Kill characters, she's ridiculously powerful and resiliant, so she'd need severe downtoning to fit in. Archon (Starcraft) Kind of unexpected, I know But for some reason, Archons have always fascinated me when I played Starcraft II, in terms of lore (tl;dr, Archons are two merged Protoss characters who give up their bodies and very identities to merge into a powerful Archon, a deed for which their names are engraved into a Protoss memorial tablet) and ingame looks and mechanics (they're very simple and very powerful units who are almost entirely energy and have next to no HP, but huge shields to compensate). I'd probably make an Archon with some semi-canon twists, like maybe it's a Hybrid Archon with self-consciousness.Pros: I've never seen any Archon characters before, they also don't have much lore surrounding them, so in total I have a lot of creative freedom. And Starcraft has a vast amount of lore and diversity that I could draw from to make the character interesting and deep. Cons: I'm a Starcraft noob pretty much so the Archon will likely turn out against the canon. Also, normally Archons have no self-consciousness so the character itself is against Starcraft canon. They can very well be -- and in numerous cases, are -- just as strong, or MUCH stronger than many Primes. THAT mess aside, you've got interesting choices here. :psy: I know who four of the choices are personally without looking into them, and so my personal choices are swayed by that lack of knowledge. To note, I myself have played Artorias before, and it was a LOT of fun, up until an unplanned loss of internet and writing time killed my enjoyment and attachment to where I was going with him. He isn't an easy character to work with due to his corruption and such, but it would be an interesting choice. I'd say he's as good a choice as any, personally. Re: Decisions, decisions... - Sarah Kerrigan - 10-01-2015 gotta support dat Nonon Pick. If you wanna represent Archons, maybe look at the starcraft wiki, there's one or two named ones(in products that are only semi-canon for the most part, admittedly), and it'd give a decent representation of what they're all about. Re: Decisions, decisions... - Undyne - 10-02-2015 Now I'm debating between Garrosh, Artorias and to some extent a Protoss character that can temporarily morph into an Archon as a power-up move (perhaps he found out some way to do so, but at the expense of the form rapidly collapsing in on itself because it's not made up by two templars, but only one). Kind of like Tassadar does in HotS with his heroic ability. Other than that, yeah <.< Garrosh would be a pretty awesome pick, but so would Artorias be. Though of course the latter would have to be a bit adapted to that despite being corrupted by the Abyss he retains his sanity (or perhaps regained it from Omni upon being transported?) and thus is able to act in ways other than going through endless killing frenzies. Bah xD Decisions are never an easy thing! Re: Decisions, decisions... - Kakashi Hatake - 10-02-2015 Tassadar has my vote. You could even play him having some Dark Templar abilities (cloaking, etc.) as he's stated in the lore as leaning in that direction after meeting the Nerazim. If not I humbly suggest Zeratul, because Dark Archon. I had considered playing him, but I couldn't really pull it off. Re: Decisions, decisions... - Undyne - 10-02-2015 Tassadar with a bit of Dark Templar (stealth and whatnot) would be fairly cool Mixture of Caster and stealthy, to use MMORPG terms. But still, Garrosh and Artorias... such good options... ugh xP Re: Decisions, decisions... - Sarah Kerrigan - 10-02-2015 leaning towards is putting it mildly. Tassadar, after meeting with Zeratul, gets flat-out initiated as a dark templar. he uses both abilitysets(though not at the same time) vs kerrigan in teh books. heroes of the storm tassadar can temporarily become an archon, so it wouldn't be too unreasonable to give him the ability here. Re: Decisions, decisions... - Illidan Stormrage - 10-02-2015 Don't think about their powers. Think about what stories you can build with them. Otherwise you'll do what I did with my alt and switch when the novelty wears off. Re: Decisions, decisions... - Trixie - 10-02-2015 Orion Wrote:Don't think about their powers. I have so many stories and ideas planned for Trixie it's crazy. An entire notebook just for her. Re: Decisions, decisions... - Undyne - 10-03-2015 Orion Wrote:Don't think about their powers. That does make sense definitely, although since I'm not yet deep enough into the Omniverse and its ongoing plots it would probably have to be based on the character and what they bring along, rather than their potential interaction with the Omniverse. The Emperor, the Witch of Izalith and Nonon probably have relatively little potential in that regard: The Emperor may start a campaign against Diablo, but considering how there's a ton of more powerful individuals than him with the same goal (Aragorn and Tyreal to name the most prominent ones) The Witch... she'd probably be happy that she escaped Lordran which was going to hell. I'm not even sure if she would fit into the whole Omniverse. Nonon Jakuzure might wind up being a pure-Dataverse character, rushing a base with an Upload Terminal and living her life in the interwebs from there on But, I don't think that'd be very fun.As for the other characters... Garrosh probably has the most story to bring along. He'd build up a Horde faction in no time - though being a hothead with little strategic thinking (IMO) things might get derpy - and he won't be doing many quests since he submits to nobody. The problem remains that in terms of abilities he would be very similar to Alexyana so he might be a bit boring to play after a while. Artorias would have something. Perhaps he'd consider Diablo a threat similar to the Abyss from Dark Souls and thus prepares to do... something. A wandering knight style of character. Tassadar, I'm not sure again. There are no direct antagonists to his character in the Omniverse unless Kerrigan zergifies herself, which I doubt will happen, or someone makes a Zerg character of their own. It's also definitely gonna be a "serious" character which may take some of the fun out of him. I'll reconsider the list for now The first three I think I'll actually take out and instead add in someone else - I'll have to spend some time pondering over this. Then again I'm still over 1500 OM away from even being able to submit a second character, so it'll take a while before I got the option.
