Thoughts for a new move. - Dawnika Snow - 09-25-2015

In my characters native verse she can use many types of weapons. Her weapon Kavetsume isn't just a sword, its many weapons. She has an ability that allows her to change her weapon in exchange for losing her current one. EX. She can change her sword into a shield to block an oncoming attack. How do I go about making a move like this here? Or is this a no go?

(I'm not a mod so my opinion doesn't actually mean a lot, but here's my thoughts Tongue)

You can make a move which is using your weapon, and give that move multiple forms - as in, sword, shield and others. I suppose that your character would be able to change it using some mechanic transformation or magic, AFAIK both are okay to use. The only caveat is that you need to calculate 300 OM for the move cost for every form that you give your weapon - so, a sword that can change into a shield would be 600 OM for example. And you need all the proficiencies for all forms to be able to buy and use the move.

True. Dang that'll be expensive.

This isn't true at all!!! you don't need to be a mod to have your opinion be meaningful.

Also what Alexyana said is right, you can have your sword transform into other weapons, but for each other form it would need to be an extra 300 OM and a further 300 OM for each thin that new form could do.

Example, if your sword could transform into a machine gun that had two different rates of fire, fully automatic (faster shots but less accuracy) or semi automatic (1 - 3 shots depending on how you wanted it, and for more accuracy and power but at a slower fire rate). that new form would cost 600 OM

You can always make the base move with only a few forms and improve it as you get OM - best ask a moderator on that subject. Or you can do it like Thaal (profile link), going for basic hand to hand combat only or buying a cheap move to start yourself off until you save enough OM to get all forms at once. 300 OM isn't THAT much if you are active around the forums Smile

Are there any other aspects I need to include? Besides the negative effects.

1. you'd need to get every different form for your weapon approved
2. you'd need all powers/ proficiencies for the different weapons you're getting approved.
3. The time it takes for the transformation into different weapons can't be instantaneous, you'd need to add in a time it takes for the sword to change into a different form. That would also depend on the form it's changing into.
4. make sure to identify variable moves and price accordingly.
5. if you need any help, turn to the Move Creation Workshop thread. It's what it's there for.
