How does Roland Deschain feel about the Empire?
Does he have any loved ones or notable npcs we should know about?

Much the same as anyone else with a conscience, I expect. But I doubt he would talk openly about that too much with a stranger who he's just met. He does, after all, live right next to the Empire.
We don't know of any loved ones he has in the Omniverse. My head canon is that he wouldn't summon anyone else he loved to this horrible place.

Okay, I just was't sure. From the history of the dunes it appears that everything got worse once the Empire started to withdrawal from the dunes, so I thought Roland might actually like them and miss their presence. That or if he was pissed at them for abandoning the dunes after they pulled most of its resources.
