Winner's Circle - Sasuke Uchiha - 09-19-2015

“It’s done.”

“I… I don’t believe it…”

Facial expressions shifted from a smile to mock disappointment, as the nurse in question cocked an eyebrow and challenged “Go ahead then, look for yourself if you don’t believe me.”

Standing in what appeared to be a provisional medic station, the shinobi turned from the woman and upon a mirror provided, took in his reflection. The head band, bearing the symbol of the Hidden Leaf, had been fastened across the left side of his face, shielding the gruesome, mauled flesh produced from a Flak Cannon discharge, taken at point blank. All compliments of the bounty hunter, Samus Aron. In fact, the Abyss had given the Uchiha quite a beating, sustaining heavy burns and injuries to the chest, abdomen, and jaw, but as he observed himself now…

With use of his hand, the headband came lose and fell from its position, revealing a dark, ebony eye peering back at him — an Uchiha eye, unscathed and the Sharingan ever present within.

“See, what did I tell you? Good as new.” the nurse beamed as her reflection appeared behind the recovered form of Sasuke’s. He knew her to be right, even before he had confirmed it with the mirror, he had already felt the use of his jaw return. Regardless, the regeneration performed was remarkable and astounded the youth as there was now a healthy reflection staring back at him.

Sasuke had seen the healing capabilities of the Omniverse before, through a run in with some terrorist, days before Dante’s Abyss, but nothing to this extent. It appeared that with this substance, Omnillium, you could accomplish the extraordinary; feats the youth long thought only fabled in the legends of forbidden jutsu.

Sasuke felt the use of his right hand, creating and releasing a fist as his thoughts of Omnillium, and gaining it to become stronger, lead him to thoughts of his brother, Itachi. Images of their dead parents flooded his mind’s eye, moments before Itachi cut them down. Instantly Sasuke’s reflection turned hostile; the hate in his blood near boiling.

Memories, ghosts, and the dead suffocated Sasuke’s subconscious, whispering hollowed woes of tragedy. His clan, his people, and the loved ones who cared for him… his family. No, nothing that transpired in the Abyss had meant a damn thing to Sasuke. With Itachi’s last breath still premature, no victories were claimed this day and it left a sour taste in the shinobi’s mouth.

The nurse, feeling the tension, took a cautious step backwards.

Blood stained imagery spiraled out of control within Sasuke, leaving him vulnerable to the truth. The role of hero had long since closed its eyes to him, passing away while the shinobi slept. A child’s sleep, the life that was, the dream he was meant to live — gone, never to return. His only solace now? The darkness. The devil’s fruit that granted vindication, substituted for salvation...Vengeance.

Watching the youth with reserve the nurse finally spoke up, timid, but with resolution, she attempted to ease the tension, “So, ff-fir— Ahem. So, first place, huh? Praise Omni, your folks must be proud. What are you going to do with that grand prize?”

The question worked as a grounding mechanism, bringing Sasuke back to the moment. He turned away from the mirror, studied the nurse for a moment in silence, and finally answered, “That’s easy. I’m going to--“

A voice sounded out of sight, interrupting the shinobi, “That answer and more! We’ll all find out, once we get our champion here to the press room, so that he may address all the fine viewers at home. Come now, we don’t have much time, and there is much to do.”

Turning to the voice, Sasuke observed a handsome man in his early thirties, dressed in a gaudy, three piece purple suit. His features were angular and his face was dominated by a set of deep, penetrating blue eyes, whilst his accent and general persona evoked that of a southern gentleman. Sasuke didn’t recognize him by appearance, but he knew him instantly. This man was none other than Karl Jak himself.

Like a pimp with a cowboy’s drawl. Only in the Omniverse folks.

Re: Winner's Circle - Sasuke Uchiha - 10-09-2015

Fluorescent light flared to life with the flick of a switch, as Karl Jak entered the Syntex lobby with his champion in tow, and Sasuke Uchiha observed the, now vacant, preshow facility for the first time, through virgin eyes. He hadn’t been present throughout most of the preshow due to an interference with his brother, Itachi, and now, instead of fire and brimstone, the youth was assailed with shameless propaganda of the Abyss.

Bathed in the decadence of senseless violence, the décor glorified the Abyss; walls adorned portraits of previous champions, in the act of surviving the Abyss, in the act of murder. Among the many, a fearsome brute with a prominent widow's peak and dark, spiky hair that scaled the small of his back, and a blonde woman whom, by the damage depicted in her portrait, appeared to have a metal casing under her skin. Sasuke stopped suddenly with surprise expressed in his eyes; he sighed.

Moving again, he passed a portrait of female champion with sapphire for hair, before arriving at what had given him the startle. There it was, in all its glory, a painting depicting Dante’s Abyss’s latest champion, Sasuke Uchiha.

With the events still fresh in his mind, the youth stood silently inspecting the painting and drinking in the imagery. Bloody, battered, and wild, the portrait depicted Sasuke Uchiha decapitating Doomguy with the Ultima Weapon, the Chidori Katana, and claiming victory. He placed a hand to the painting and his other to the recovered form of his right eye.

In the distance, a key turned and Karl Jak disappeared behind a closing door. Sasuke caught the door before it latched and followed in after him. The champion was fast, after all, if nothing else.

Neither of them spoke as they traversed a private corridor; a corridor that none of the contestants had had access to during the competition. The corridor, like the lobby hall before, was also littered with paintings depicting the Abyss’s champions, however, these were different. Illustrated with brutal imagery, these paintings depicted the death of that year’s champion’s allies throughout the completion. Disgust washed over Sasuke as images of Crona, Mami, and the many others who had fallen at his side were paraded around in front of him, as though their pain and suffering meant nothing. With his dead allies suffocating the space within the corridor he experienced what could only be described as, “The Champions Walk of Shame” and for the first time, he began to resent the competition.

“I am commissioning you, one, Sasuke Uchiha to the task of eliminating this threat, however, in order to do so, you are going to need a lot of power; a lot more than you possess now.”

“In this world there are legendary items known as artifacts. Any one of them could instill the power necessary to defeat Itachi and more so. The ability to make a real difference, for the good of the realm.”

The images of Albus Dumbledore shook Sasuke’s anger as he had more pressing matters than the trivial morality of the Abyss.

“Here we are.” Karl’s words broke the silence as he inserted another key and with a quick turn, vanished behind another door; Sasuke followed.

Paintings and portraits; the seemingly endless collection continued its domination over this room just like any other of the facilities. This time, however, Sasuke’s visage gave birth to wonder followed shortly after by pride. Strazio Rockwell, Deadpool, Mickey Mouse, and Doomguy all graced the walls along with the champion. Locked in fierce battle and with such stunning detail, the memory came alive for Sasuke and he couldn’t help but grin. Hands down, Dante’s Abyss had been the most epic…. Most badass thing the youth had ever been a part of.

Further inside, there stood an elongated table with various different artifacts sprawled out across its surface, such as a slug-like organism that seemed to pulsate and the two different colored dragon eggs that Sasuke had seen in action first hand. This was it, this was the moment he would achieve the power necessary to defeat Itachi.

The shinobi, eager to wield the sword of vengeance, was beside himself with excitement when his flashy host broke the silence again, “Yes, those are yours now. You may take them and do with them whatever you like.”
Sasuke happily stepped forward to retrieve the items when Jak began to invade his personal space, and caught him off guard, “W-what are you doing?”

“Relax,” Jak reassured him as he fastened a gold plated belt that was too large to possibly be practical across the shinobi’s midsection, “You’re the champ. Champ needs a belt!”

Sasuke rolled his eyes as clearly, Karl Jak was enjoying this too much.

“Ahhh, there we go.” Jak began as he raised his fingers in the form of a mock camera angle, “Sssmashing, absssolutely sssmashing. Wait ‘til Burgundy gets a load of you! It’ll be prime time television! I can hardly wait!”

“And then I can be on my way?” questioned Sasuke; his patience running thin.

“And misss the best part?” Questioned Jak as he arched an eyebrow, paused a moment to create drama, and used his arm to reveal and unveil a hidden chamber to the boardroom; a chamber of pure omnilium, casting a myriad of rainbow hues and light in every direction before coming to coalesce in the center of the chamber.

In that center, hovering in place, Sasuke laid eyes on something he had only preciously seen among the stars. Seemingly plucked from some random constellation, there it sat, in miniature form, was what appeared to be… a galaxy!

“This is essssssence of Omni." Jak lisped as he walked further into the hidden chamber, "Albeit it’s not the largest collection of Omni essence, it is the only essence left in any of the nine verses, and while I am not saying that more won’t materialize in the future, know this: All the powerful artifacts you see before you and have ever been, come from this essence. It will be the object of many a prime’s desire and may bring you under persecution.”

“How does it work?” Sasuke, who had followed Jak deeper into the chamber, questioned without missing a beat.

Karl Jak smirked, shook his head, and replied, “You got it champ. Take hold of the essence and channel whatever you desire most, the essence will become the instrument of your will. Now, this is dangerous and it takes ti—Hey… Wait!”

With a crackle of lightning, the sword of Kusanagi flared to life once more.
