What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Proto Man - 08-31-2015 I mean we all like video games, right? Or I imagine at least most of us do, since this website itself is sort of a game, amirite? I was just curious what titles you guys have on your 'Top 10' list (or top whatever if you're lazy). I mean, what better way to get to know each other a little better and have a fun back-and-forth than about your favorite video games? I like to think you can learn a lot from someone listening to them talk about their favorite books, movies, or games. It tells you a lot about that person (I think) I use the term favorite, because (personally) I draw a distinction between 'greatest' and 'favorite.' I'm the type who falls in love with shit people hate, and I'm also the type that can recognize when a game (or a movie) is amazing yet not really enjoy it. That said, here are eleven or so of my favorite video games, probably in no particular order. Resident Evil Remake (GCN) - This remake is better than the original, although the Director's Cut of the PSX version is amazing for nostalgia's sake (go watch the intro on Youtube, they filmed it with people they found on the street). But seriously... this game is terrifying. I recently replayed it and still got nervous as I wandered those gloriously designed hallways. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES) - This is still my favorite RPG ever. Ever. It took something I was familiar with (Mario and RPGs), created a really fun story (collect them seven dragon balls star pieces!), and crafted a unique Mario world with cameos to other Nintendo titles. I think it's a great tragedy that this world was left to history. I miss Mallow and Geno and that asshole crocodile. Final Fantasy IX (PSX) - My favorite FF title. Along with Chrono Cross, this was my first taste of JRPGs. I haven't seen another Final Fantasy title that manages to find such a perfect balance of goofiness and gravitas. Plus Zidane is a pimp, and Vivi and Steiner were also pretty dope. Resident Evil 2 (PSX) - Better than the original and more involved than its successor. Resident Evil 2 capitalized on everything that made the original successful in my mind, and then went above and beyond in every way. Resident Evil 2 is like the Terminator 2: Judgment Day of video games in my mind. Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES) - It was hard for me to pick which of these three games I loved the most, but I think it's the second title. The developers had a lot more fun with the world, and I think the Dixie-Diddy dynamic was the best pairing in the original SNES games. Silent Hill 4: The Room (PS2) - Yes, Silent Hill 2 is the best game in the series, but jesus christ, Silent Hill 4 is the most unsettling. You're trapped in a possessed apartment building and you have to crawl through jagged, bloody holes to go into nightmares worlds where unstoppable ghost chase you and try to eat your heart. Just ask Thaal how fucked up this game is, he was there with me when I played through most of the Silent Hill games. I'm sure he'll remember a certain hospital scene. Harvest Moon: Magical Melody (GCN) - I miss the original cast of Harvest Moon characters from the N64 version. Magical Melody was a great version of the series that introduced furniture, rivals, and buying other plots of land... things that are staples in the series nowadays that kind of went forgotten with the anime-esque versions on the Wii. I want to give a special shoutout to HM: It's A Wonderful Life (GCN), for being a wonderful game that ended WITH YOU FUCKING DYING. You play out the entire adult life of your character, and then, at the last day, he has a heart attack and passes away and you watch his funeral. I cried like a bitch. Black and White 2 (PC) - Speaking of 'where the fuck is my sequel,' I would have rather had a third Black & White game than the Fable series. I don't hate Fable (at least not the first two), but I loved Black and Whitre. The weird part is? Both games were the same but had different mechanics that provided you with slightly more nuanced experiences. The first one went way in-depth with raising your creature (you play a god) and teaching it social skills and to fight and do your bidding. That's streamlined in the second game, where the emphasis is on nation building and resource management. As a god, you interact through a your hand, picking up stuff and making gestures that create miracles and disasters. I would have killed for a sequel using the Wiimote or the Kinect. Metriod Prime (GCN) / Bioshock (PC) - These tie when it comes to determine what Alex's favorite FPS title of all-time is. I've never been huge into Metroid (sorry Greg!), but I loved Metriod Prime's weird fusion of platforming and FPS'ing, much like I loved Bioshock's quirky things like the puzzles, plasmids, and the general world of rapture. Both titles have sequels that, in my mind, continue a tradition of being awesome. Mega Man Legends (PSX) - Let's be honest -- I suck at Mega Man games. The only one I ever beat was Mega Man 3, so when they made a 3d Mega Man game that was an action-adventure title with an actual plot (because let's face it, it's not like Mega Man games are rich in the plot category), it was love at first sight. The sequel and the spin-off were great, but the sequel leaves you with a cliffhanger. ALSO FUCK YOU CAPCOM. #NEVERFORGET #MEGAMANLEGENDS3 Conkers Bad Fur Day (N64) - Truth time. I bought a Nintendo 64 at the very end of its shelf life for this title and this title only (I later grabbed Mario, Donkey Kong, Harvest Moon, Smash, and Goldeneye, of course). I bought this game before I even had the console to play it. I had been a Sony kid since Resident Evil and Crash Bandicoot, but Conker's Bad Fur Day is probably the best platformer for the N64. If you've never played this game, you are missing out on so much. They tried a remake (that I think had improved graphics) when Rare went to XBOX, but they f**king censored parts of the game. Something like this would probably never exist on a modern Nintendo console. Europa Universalis/Crusader Kings - I'm fusing these two franchises since you can import your game from one into another <_< I remember EU3. Trixie and I would talk about our epic games over the summer I spent alone at college. It's such a simple yet complex and involved game. It doesn't have the frentic pace of an Age of Empires or the color and 'jazz' of Civilization, but I think that got me more into EU, especially since you play on a map of the Earth with historically accurate countries. Extra titles that I didn't talk about for the sake of this post being a wall of text that no one wants to read -- Super Mario 3 (NES), Pokemon Red (NES), Eternal Darkness (GCN), Starcraft (PC), Chrono Cross (PSX), GTA: Vice City (PS2), Max Payne (PC), Tropico 4 (PC), Minecraft (PC), Mass Effect (360), Dragon Age (360), Rock Band (360)... and I'm sure a few other titles that are shedding tears ~~ So what and why are some of your favorite games? Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Dean Winchester - 08-31-2015 Silent Hill 1 to 4 (PSX and PS2): I love all the original Silent Hill games. ALL OF THEM. 2 was my personal favourite but there is something about the original games that make me want to play them over and over again. To me Silent Hill was what survival horror was about! At least until the US made games. Those were all kind of meh. Sigh. Baldur's Gate I & II (PC): I love BioWare and basically will buy anything they ever release (and so far have) but these two started my love for the company. They were the first fantasy games I ever played on the PC, which lead to me ranting about them to a friend who introduced me to Neverwinter Nights as well. Still, Baldur's Gate. So much <3. Final Fantasy VI (Otherwise known as FF III in North America, SNES): This game got me into JRPGs BIG time. It was also the first SNES game I ever bought. Special place in the ole' heart and what not. Chrono Trigger(SNES): Because.... Chrono. Trigger. That game is my favourite JRPG ever. EVER. I loved the game play, the story, the whole damn thing! Eternal Darkness - Sanity's Requiem (GameCube): This was a GameCube game made by a company back in Ontario I actually lived close to at one point. The game itself was awesome and it was the first time I have seen a sanity meter where what you see actually effects you and the lower it goes the more shit you start to see. I really liked this one! Sadly the company, Silicon Knights, had to go stupid and sue Unreal over their engine, lost, and then went bankrupt so we will never see a sequel probably. Blades of Steel (NES): The only sports game I have ever or will ever like. Simple hockey game for the NES. I liked it, shut up. Legend of Zelda - A link to the past (SNES): Favourite of the Zelda games, I love them all but this one is my fav, second is the original NES game of course. So many more NES titles that I played as a kid that I just can't remember the name of, so many modern ones that were decent enough but didn't leave that much of an impression on me. Still, those were my all time favourites. Honourable mention - Southpark Stick of Truth: It was short, but a decent game. I really did like it and even played through it a few times. Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Tearen Wover - 08-31-2015 Aces High II - Best flight simulator I've ever flown. Also? Awesome WWII tactical air, land and sea warfare. Huge, sprawling maps where you can capture territory, siege towns and bomb strateguc targets, all with manual controls and super realistic flight physics. Soul Calibur IV - I love this game for fighting. It doesn't require piano lessons to be able to pull off sick moves, and is all about timing and footwork, as opposed to A A A > < B ^ v X B B A etc. Left 4 Dead 2 - Great times with friends and family. Gratuitous violence topped with solid teamwork and camaraderie. City of Heroes - My favorite MMORPG of all time, sadly dead now. No game ever made me feel as powerful as that one. Sure, it could be a little repetitive at times, but the costume designer and raw, guttural sensory feedback from the sound and camera effects always made it fun to be fighting. Tales of Vesperia - A very solid JRPG, this is only one in a long franchise of excellent games. Great visuals, intuitive combat and enough depth to make it complex but not intimidating. The characters are all pretty believable too, which comes at a premium when Japanese media is involved. Kirby Air Ride - My sister and I spent countless hours on this game, filling out the achievement blocks and perfecting our City Trial technique. The controls were simple as hell, but they didn't need to be complex for what was needed. Hail Hydra! Megaman Zero - This entire series was superb, but I only ever played the first game multiple times. The game was challenging without being frustrating, and rewarded you for self-imposed difficulty. Great graphics for GBA, and air tight controls. Spore - Maxis really stepped outta the box on this one. The gameplay itself was alright; individual phases of civilization were spread a little too thin, but that's not what kept me hooked. The content creator was astounding in its flexibility and depth. I spent hours perfecting designs for everything from protozoa to starships. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Yeah, okay. Next. Star Wars: TIE Fighter - Oh lord this game. My childhood was completely changed by it. It was a fantastic space dog fighting simulator that requires precision, quick thinking, and straight up mad skills. They don't make 'em like this anymore... Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Shulk - 09-01-2015 Xenoblade Chronicles - Best JRPG protagonist, most unpredictable plot, amazing setting, combat that stays fun 100 hours in, characters that are well-written and empathetic. I gush about it enough in the chat. Gears of War 3 - I love the entire series, but the third entry holds a special place in my heart for the sheer amount of polish it has. There is nothing more viscerally satisfying than getting into a shotgun duel with someone online, winning, and watching pieces of them fly everywhere. It was surprisingly good at encouraging teamwork too, and I've met plenty of great people online over the two years that I've played this. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - This probably would have been occupied by MGS5, but it's not out yet. To this day, I consider this the best Metal Gear game. You got to play as Snake (kind of) and get a story that's the least batshit insane out of all the others. It's just about Big Boss as a naive soldier struggling to come to grips with having to kill his mentor and mother figure out of duty to his country. It introduced some incredibly indepth mechanics like the camo system and CQC, and it marked the first time the series started to go into more "open-ended" territory with the huge (at the time) Russia wilderness that was full of animals and soldiers to mess with. Beyond Good & Evil - This is a forgotten gem for sure. Made by one of the few non-scumbags in UbiSoft, Michael Ancel, Beyond Good & Evil is a classic example of a great game that failed financially due to executive incompetence. It's a mish-mash of a bunch of different mechanics, leading to a varied playtime. When you're not collecting pearls to upgrade your vehicle, you're being a female Solid Snake, taking photos to overthrow a corrupt government. Or you're just photographing animals for a scientist, or maybe you're fighting with a bo-staff and beating up a bunch of monsters, or maybe you're racing, or platforming, or flying a space ship. Either way, you're doing all of those things in a setting with characters that I think are sorely underrated in gaming history. Jade, in my opinion, is one of the best female characters in video games just in terms of how "normal" she is. She's a badass because she's doing extraordinary things despite being just one woman with a camera and a stick. Majora's Mask - Does this really need an introduction? It's the most unique (and polarizing) Zelda game ever made. The time mechanic added a layer of strategy not seen in any other Zelda to date, and the dark and oppressing atmosphere is still unmatched. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Probably one of my favorite RPGs this year. It handles difficult choices well, with Geralt's personality and profession adding some complexity to how you handle his dealings with the bigoted citizens of the Northern Realms. Combine that with a truly unique fantasy setting and oodles of well-written dialogue that handle tough issues like racism and facism with more grace than most games, and you've got a potential game of the year for 2015. Fallout: New Vegas - It's not Fallout 3. Your choices actually matter. The writing is better. Gameplay is better. Enough said. Knights of the Old Republic 2 - Imagine KoToR, but actually good. That's KoToR 2. You get more choices, more combat options, interesting companions, and one of the best mentors ever, Kreia. Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Jim Raynor - 09-01-2015 Geez not a small list to choose from ... In no particular order: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64): I absolutely adore this game. When it was released, not only was it one of the first 3D exploration games, but it set the damn standard. A big world where you could go wherever you wanted, with fantastic music, interesting puzzles and combat, and perhaps the quintessential good vs. evil trope. Loved it 17 years ago, love it now. ChronoTrigger (SNES): Nips at the heels of OoT. The characters were individual and fleshed out, each having their own stories going on in the background. The combat, while pretty standard, was great and I always loved the multitude of different combo attacks that each pairing had. But its story ... OH ITS STORY. Ahead of its time. Not to mention that there are about 16 different endings, depending on the things you do or don't do as you travel through time, and when you decide to face the boss. First game I can remember where choices actually affect the world. An absolute classic and the best thing the SNES produced. Mass Effect 2: I enjoyed ME1 but always felt like I should've liked it more than I did. ME2 fixed that. Better combat (IMO), an interesting story (loved the inclusion of the Collectors) and one of my favourite RPG cast of characters from any game (Grunt, Legion, Mordin, Thane, etc). Also the ability to pull a split second paragon/renegade choice was pretty cool, and the fact that your favourite people could actually die in the last mission? It made me care. One of the first games to do it and do it so well. Edges out ME3 for me because while the third game shows everyone's fate, ME2 is where I bonded with them. Halo/Halo: Reach: Hard to choose here. I am fully aware that they're pretty much just standard shooters, but the first Halo (other than Goldeneye) really cemented FPSes on consoles. While simple, I loved Halo's story, cast of characters, and the epic moments that filled it, especially the desperate escape at the end of the game. And the music! Halo: Reach to me is the culmination of the Halo franchise, and also its ending was very clever and emotional. Dynasty Warriors: Didn't mention a particular instance because I've loved them all. Initially I just found the concept of slaughtering weaklings en mass a lot of fun and very cathartic (and still do), but strangely the games endeared me to the story and the characters as each iteration focused more on the story and all the little nuances it has. So much so that I actually bought the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the books that the games are based on, and have an idea for a novel because of this game. I'll be supporting this series until it dies. Elder Scrolls V Skyrim: This one took me by surprise. I was really into Morrowind but hated Oblivion. Skyrim was Morrowind x 1000 for me. The unparalleled freedom to explore, traipse through caves and crypts and dragon dens, run into all sorts of wild creatures both natural and supernatural, loot treasure and hunt powerful relics ... this game scratched an itch I didn't even know I had. Story was pretty meh though. I really hope Elder Scrolls Online bombs soon, because I want a proper sequel to this amazing series. Secret of Mana (SNES): I tend to think of ChronoTrigger and Secret of Mana in the same thought, mostly because they remind me of sweeping JRPGs of the 16 bit era that were simply brilliant. SoM had the story (and a sad ending too, I actually cried when I beat it) and I much preferred its combat over CT. Lots of weapons and magic skills to power up. Loved it to pieces. Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: A masterpiece. The effort and love that went into this game really shows. This to me builds on Skyrim but actually has a good and deep story, but for the first time in the series, I actually felt like a witcher. Hunting monsters, finding out their behaviours and weaknesses, preparing for a fight with potions, oils and signs ... just brilliant. Not to mention the incredible detail given to the smallest side quests, where you actually give a shit about some woman hawking on about a missing son because the writers MAKE you. A deep, engrossing experience as awesome as it is long. Spurred me on to read the witcher novels. Pokemon Blue/Yellow: What's there to say? I was absolutely obsessed with Pokemon when I was younger, and the game was the fantasy come to life. I have absolutely no idea how many times I replayed these games, but it's sufficient to say it's my most replayed game ever. I actually got all 150 Pokemon in Yellow (no Mew, unfortunately) and still remember the trainer ID of that file. That's dedication. That's love. Diablo II: Took everything great about the first Diablo and improved it. Better story, more worlds to explore, loot to collect. Dungeon crawling at its finest, and the lore beats the shit out of D3. Also, cow level. Honourable mentions: Super Metroid, Super Mario 64, Earthworm Jim, Starcraft, Mario Kart 64, Warcraft 3, KoToR (this is too hard). Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Xehanort - 09-01-2015 These arn't in order but hey. my favorites. Also to limit my list only one per franchise. 1. Goldeneye / Perfect Dark (N64): my first console shooter these were such a blast to play with other people. Perfect dark is practically goldeneye with a seperate campaign, expansion pak support, and bots soooo kudos. 2. Mario 64: My favorite mario game. A few for the GBA come close buut there was something magical about N64. Also kick-ass final boss theme that really got my adreniline going when i was a kid. 3. Unreal Tournament (PC) (1999): My first game of all time. Nothing compares to the narrator congratulating your headshots. Facing Worlds + Sniper Rifle = Profit :jagoff: 4. Final Fantasy X (PS2/PS3/PSV): I've played all of the main series final fantasy games save for fifteen and eleven and i adore all of them in some way. FFX at the time blew me away. The story of Tidus coming to grips on this new world (Spira) and the love that could never be (Tidus + Yuna) well... until you get the perfect ending to FFX-2.... The sphere grid was fun to toy with. I remember rolling the dice as a kid to see which path each character would take when they got to a crossroads on the grid. It made it much much tougher than it needed to be but i enjoyed it. This was the first rpg i have ever completed. :c00l: AURON FOREVER 5. Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (ps2): whats better than a dragonball z game done right? a dragonball z game done right with an amazing amount of characters to pick from. I racked up a huge amount of play time on this one, proving its incredible replay value. Why they haven't followed up with an ACTUAL SEQUAL to this or an HD remake of T3 is beyond me. 6. Fallout 3 GOTY (xbox 360): Lets face it, i love rpgs, even if i do suck at them. Shooters though... im less terrible so mashing them up and adding a survival-ish theme to it. I played this and borderlands around the same time and while both being rpg shooters... fallout 3 was less dry than borderlands. The reason why i included the GOTY version is that i didn't have internet at the time i played this.. and having all the dlc with it was amazing. <3 winterized power armor + chinese electric sword thing <3 7. Halo 2 (xbox): My favorite halo game. got me through middle school. I am the Lockout FFA King. :fuckyeah: 8. Call of duty 2 (PC): Great wwII story. Great Visuals. Great sounds. Great Normandy beach level. 9. Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PC/Ps2): Multiplayer Jedi mash fest? hell ye 10. Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii): On this list for sheer replayability, large unlockable pool, size of roster, and the huge amount of hours i put into this damn thing. Although i have played each of the SSB games up to this one.. this one in my opinion was better than melee... except for the random slipping shitz. gets annoying at times. online multiplayer was neat buuuut all it too was one guy with bad internet to turn it into a lag-brawl. I enjoyed the story and the beautiful metaphor it represented. If you didn't get it i would check up on Game Theory's video on the subject. really worth looking into if you enjoy SSB as a whole. Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Deadpool - 09-01-2015
I can't think of any others right now, but these are the ones that really stand out at the moment. Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Proto Man - 09-01-2015 The Twisted Metal game I played the shit out of was Number 4 (although I owned all of them at one point and readily acknowledge that the first two were better). Twisted Metal Black takes the cake when it comes to "HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS AN AMAZING STORY-DRIVEN GAME ABOUT KILLING PEOPLE WITH CARS." Just... that game was so wtf deliciously dark, it was amazingly done. Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Thaal Sinestro - 09-01-2015 Yo, these things aren't in order, except for #1. SOTC is my shit. 1: Shadow Of The Colossus 2: Armored Core 2 & the associated sequels 3: Fable 2 4: Minecraft 5: Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (I spent approximately 60 hours of my life rearranging my house in this game. I know that's not the point.) 6: Dragon Age: Origins 7: Devil May Cry 3 8: Tekken 3 & Soul Calibur 5 (For Yoshimitsu) 9: Chroma Squad 10: Portal and Portal 2 11: Pokemon series fits in there somewhere Horable Mentions: Dear Esther Papers, Please Team Fortress 2 World Of Warcraft & associated expansions Orcs Must Die FTL: Faster Than Light Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Proto Man - 09-02-2015 Thaal Sinestro Wrote:4: Minecraft Remember that time we became the equivalent of rock stars on that one server? ...Ever. Vigilant. Fallout 2 (and by extension the entire Fallout series - other than 2, NV was my favorite) 2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (well really all of the MGS series but I really like this one) 3. Civilization V 4. Final Fantasy VI (AKA Final Fantasy III in North America) 5. Chrono Trigger 6. Grand Theft Auto IV 7. Mass Effect Series (except 2. Not great) 8. Oblivion / Skyrim (tie because they're both better than the other for different reasons) 9. Super Mario RPG 10. XCOM: Enemy Unknown Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Lemmy Koopa - 09-06-2015 In no particular order: Super Mario Bros. 3: I WAS ADDICTED TO THIS GAME. I had difficulty beating it as a child but I had recently defeated it and I feel good about myself. Sonic 3 and Knuckles: This game is how Sonic 3 was supposed to be. Even though Sonic 2 was good, this trumps it. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle: I loved this game. In fact, I still have it and most of my time was spent on stages and whatnot.. though I loved going to the Chao Gardens. <3 Donkey Kong Country 2: Do I have to say it? I LOVE this game. I mostly liked playing as Dixie Kong to get over the hard areas. Super Paper Mario: The underrated gem of the Paper Mario series. TTYD was awesome and the original was fun but seriously this game is a tearjerker. Mother 3: Beautiful game, I cried so hard at the end. Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Ape Escape: A classic, though the 3rd game trumps it, nothing wrong with the original. I've played On the Loose and that's good. Super Smash Bros. Melee: I don't know why but this installment of the series seems to keep my attention. Crash Bandicoot: I grew up with this game on the original PSX. I couldn't stop playing it. Honorable mentions: Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario/TTYD, Donkey Kong 64, Sonic 2, Earthbound, Klonoa, Ape Escape 3, Blinx, Okami and well, alot more. MY LIST IS TOO LONG. Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Schwi Dola - 09-07-2015 Man, I still remember how hard it was to get through the brambles areas. Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Minato Namikaze - 09-07-2015 1. Final Fantasy VII 2. The Dynasty Warriors Series ( Dynasty Warriors 3 in particular) 3: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 4: Borderlands Pre Sequel Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Ruby Rose - 09-07-2015 This is so hard for me to only pick a few... Toukiden: Kiwami: Monster Hunter x Kingdom Hearts = This game that I'm addicted to Kingdom Hearts: An absolutely beautiful solo action RPG that had me hooked from the tutorial in the first game. Deus Ex: Human Revolution: Addicted within the first thirty minutes of playing. Awesome decision-based FPS. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater: I used to watch my dad play this all the time, and when he passed it down to me to complete, I proved to have a real handle of it. I love the story, stealth and mystery spread in every nook and cranny. Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment: Call me an SAO nerd, but I just love this game. I get the same feel from it that I do with Kingdom Hearts... My only problem is too much fanservice DX Super Smash Bros. Brawl: YES, I started on the Smash Bros. series late, and I regret that, but the one SB game I have played will stick with me for a looooooong time. I have many more favourites, but waaaaaay too many to separate ^^; Re: What Are Your Favorite Video Games? - Corporal Light - 10-03-2015 Favorite video games, huh? Got a list of a few, from 1 to 6, with 1 being the highest. 1. Age of Mythology My all-time favorite game I've ever played. Everything about it is awesome. I love its strategy, its graphics, story, multiplayer, and overall gameplay. However, what I love most about the game is that it had, as the title implies, Greek, Egyptian, Norse and Atlantean mythology as a focal point of the game. I love the ancient mythology, so getting to play as ancient heroes and use myth units (also, the game has a pretty extensive amount of history for each unit, which is even better) is a huge bonus for me. Also, the soundtrack is simply amazing and one of the best I've ever heard. I get nostalgic feelings whenever I hear it or just think about the game, it was that good. 2. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Over the top action at its finest; it's the only Metal Gear game I truly like. All the others I either find okay or just plain annoying to play through (mostly because I'm not a stealth genre fan.) Thankfully, in comes Metal Gear Rising that draws me in with awesome action through a dynamic slow-down slice-em-up mechanic, and amazing boss fights. Don't forget the even more amazing soundtrack. Also, like the other Metal Gear games I've played, the game isn't entirely mindless, and always had something to say. I think Metal Gear Rising has given me a lot more to think about in terms of story then most others have, which is why it ranks so high on my list. 3. Undertale After experiencing this game through piracy (because I'm a cheapass and can't pay the 10 dollars,) I will willingly go to jail having experienced one of the best RPGs ever (subjectively.) It's combat is fun, if slightly annoying; it's funny, and full of quirks that separate it from other RPGs. But the best thing about it is that, underneath the ball of happiness, is a heart of darkness that I love to get depressed and saddened over. My first playthrough I literally said "Fuck it. As soon as I beat this game, I'm restarting." when I saw Alphys before meeting Asgore. I NEEDED to see the "happy ending." Or did I? I don't know, but if a game can make me uninstall it because I could jeopardize the happy ending, then I think that's proof of how emotional a game can be (or I'm a total wimp.) 4. Spec Ops: The Line This game is awesome. Plain and simply awesome. It's rich with detail, full of symbolism, and is very, very dark. Its story and overall themes are dark, and nothing about the game is happy. Which I like in a very strange way that killing people in games is fun (I hope I didn't just sound like a psychopath there.) The gameplay itself isn't even that bad, despite it not being "innovative" as most reviews claimed. Personally, I think that this game should go down in history as a work of art purely because of everything it was trying to say and do, and succeeding in so many different ways. 5. Alan Wake There's something about Alan Wake that I like a lot. It's atmosphere is downright creepy at some points, it has an unique plot involving transcripts predicting the future and an amnesiac writer, and its gameplay is interesting despite not really being anything different. Alan Wake isn't any higher because, despite how hard I try, I can never pinpoint exactly why I like it. All the other games before I can pinpoint exactly why, but not this one. Strange. 6. Five Night's at Freddy's I know someone somewhere just vomited because of this, and I'm really sorry. However, I just can't deny the story created within the franchise was worth witnessing. The games were overall quite scary, at least for me, and each story was awesome purely because they weren't afraid to go to some dark places. The only part of it that puts me off is the horror, which is the only other thing I hate besides stealth games. FNAF brings the bottom for that very reason alone, which should prove how much I dislike horror games in general.
