PRAISE THE SUUUUUUUUUNNNN (Grey's Alt: Solaire) - Solaire - 08-19-2015

Character name: Solaire of Astora

Character source: Dark Souls

Character history: Born n' raised to fight n' praise! The first born son of Gwyn (we "questionable canonicity" now) traveled the lands of Lordran for an unspecified time, abandoning his godhood and becoming Undead to search for his own Sun. He met many admirable adventurers, and engaged in jolly cooperation with all of them, making many good friends along the way. One particularly brave adventurer even saved Knight Solaire's life, and this same soul called upon the sunlight warrior's aid to thwart the hollowed out remains of Gwyn, the Lord of Cinder. Curiously, though, as he faded back into the spaces between worlds, he emerged not in his own version of Lordran, but a land utterly foreign to him. The Omniverse.

Physical Description: Grossly incandescent

Stats:
ATK: 3
DEF: 3
SPD: 2
TEC: 2

Starting Proficiencies: Physical Strength, Ranged (2000)

Starting Powers: Burst Movement, Master Acrobat (1200)

Starting Moves:

Lightning Spear - This move used to be a bunch of overpowered bullcrap back before FROMni made a patch that nerfed it. Still, it's Solaire's preferred ranged option and a damn good miracle in its own right. He creates a lightning spear in his hand with sheer willpower, then chucks it. It can travel for quite some distance, though its accuracy is severely reduced after around 500ft, and its somewhat long casting time (around 3sec before it can be thrown) makes it somewhat easy to predict. (300)

Sunlight Straight Sword - Solaire's sword of choice. this is essentially an ordinary longsword (blade length around 36 inches), albeit one of masterwork quality. Solaire mostly likes to use it, in conjunction with his shield, to do battle with his enemies. (300)

Sunlight Shield - Bearing the insignia of the sun, Solaire's trusty shield is capable of blocking attacks with impunity--provided he can actually put the shield between himself and an opponent, the attack's severity is drastically reduced. While sturdy it isn't impregnable, and enough attacks or a powerful enough attack can force the shield aside, and thus if Solaire tries to block an attack stronger than what the shield can take or defends for too long, his shield can be forced wide open, leaving him vulnerable. (300)

Super Moves:

Great Lightning Spear - A substantially more powerful version of Lightning Spear that's also much harder to dodge due to its quicker casting time. Sends the full fury of the Sunlight Warrior's soul coursing through the target (in the form of high-voltage electricity) if it connects. (600)

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

Also, mods pls keep my username as Brolaire pretty pls Smile Smile Smile Smile

History: You need more for your history than that. While it is not preferred, you can link to Solaire's wiki page if it has a history description, but no matter what, you need to at least tell me at which point in Solaire's life he was taken to the Omniverse.

Lightning Spear: How long is the casting time?

Sunlight Straight Sword: This looks fairly good, but if you intend to carry around a shield, you'll need to make a move for that or else it'll be a hugely debuffed incidental weapon. You can make it part of the Sword move if you prefer, but that might effect the pricing if you could use these two items independently from one another.

Thanks for the insights! I've edited the entry to reflect what's needed, but I do have a question: as I've written it out, what should my Sunlight Shield move cost? I'm not sure if it falls within a 300, 600, or 900 point range as-is, due to the number of limits and such that are counter-balanced against its strengths.

If it's a 900 point move, I plan on leaving Great Lightning Spear out of my actual roster entry, to stay within the 5000 point limit.

You know what? Considering the chat battle in the chatroom, let's agree to leave out the shield move and submit it to Move Approval and get the opinions of other staffers on that one. I'm pretty sure you can't have resistances to particular elements like that, but I'd prefer for it not to be my call.

I'm getting Dark Link in for a second opinion. Any other staffer can jump in.

Re: PRAISE THE SUUUUUUUUUNNNN (Grey's Alt: Solaire) - Solaire - 08-21-2015

I appreciate it; you called it a "chat battle", and if I'm coming across as combative or anything I don't mean to. I'm just interested in figuring out the best way to make this move work and end up with everybody as happy as possible with what it does.

I've edited it to be a little more like Chosen's, in the hopes that it'll make things simpler on everyone. I don't mean to be a hassle. :'D

Re: PRAISE THE SUUUUUUUUUNNNN (Grey's Alt: Solaire) - Guu - 08-21-2015

Look, I didn't mean you were being combative, it's a figure of speech.

It's just the situation is I've always thought immunities, even in the slight, was not possible. I mean, even Enel didn't give himself any resistances to electricity, so I thought that was a thing. But then you bring out evidence to the contrary, so I don't know what to think. Hence why I'm getting a second opinion here.

Re: PRAISE THE SUUUUUUUUUNNNN (Grey's Alt: Solaire) - Omni - 08-21-2015

Elemental advantages are explicitly disallowed in the move rules. Silly chat.

Re: PRAISE THE SUUUUUUUUUNNNN (Grey's Alt: Solaire) - Solaire - 08-21-2015

Alright. Why was Chosen approved with a shield move that has the words "and has an above average resistance to flame based attacks, and a moderate defense against lightning" in the description, then? Was there a rule change between that thread and now that I just didn't come in time for?

Re: PRAISE THE SUUUUUUUUUNNNN (Grey's Alt: Solaire) - Omni - 08-21-2015

Human error. It happens especially when I'm not personally doing the approvals. But in this case Guu is correct and quoting the rules directly. ^_^

"We do not allow moves to have benefits against specific character types. You can, if you wish, role-play your character as having a weakness to certain things but this will provide no benefit and is for role-playing purposes only. In terms of attacks, you cannot have a magical attack that works better against orcs or bad people, or that shuts down mechanical or magical characters specifically. You could, say that the attack only worked against those specific types if you really wanted the move for flavour's sake only. See Balance."
