Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Sarah Kerrigan - 08-24-2016

This is something I've been debating on for a month or two, and at this point I just can't pretend something's magically going to change anytime soon.

Raal is an awesome character, I had a lot of good ideas for him still... but I flat-out just can't get myself to write him anymore. the muse is just flat-out gone. At first, I blamed it on general writing Malaise, but I've never had this same issue writing Weiss whenever the opportunity popped up, so that seems pretty unlikely. After running through the excuses, I've basically had to come to terms with the fact that it's not the environment or my level of exhaustion - it's just that I'm not able to write Raal anymore, as much as I'd like it to be the fault of anything else. something occurred and now I just don't have the stuff to do it.

That said... I have ideas for some switches I could make to characters I WILL be able to write, and wanted to hear your thoughts.

1. Abathur
[Image: abathur__evolution_master_by_mr__jack-d7byehe.jpg]

This one was probably relatively obvious to a couple people, but Abathur is someone I've mused on playing for a while. Outside of the fact that he's a wonderfully prissy scientist with an adorably unique style of speech and thought, he's definitely capable of making for some of the most unique fights possible with his ability-set.

Abathur'd be pretty advantageous due to being someone I can apparently write dialogue for pretty well, as well as a character that's a bit less "Loner" than Raal was, which was potentially part of his issue. He's got no set alignment so the people he can write with without fighting is pretty high, and Starcraft is an awesome series to work with. Unlike Warcraft, I still like a lot of SC's lore, (if not the main story itself) so that's also pretty helpful. He's still got ambitions and ideas, but he's a bit easier of a character to change and a little more unique where it counts.

The main disadvantage I can see with Abathur is direction - he has some self-driven goals but not all of them are going to go anywhere too fast. Since he is so dang unique, while I think he wouldn't get old in that regard, I can't say with complete certainty I'd be into playing him the entire time. Still, he'd be a lot of fun.

2. Sona Hinamori.
[Image: latest?cb=20100213184446&path-prefix=en]

I'm sure Imouto enjoys seeing this choice pop up. A young fighter with a hammer and a lot of combat experience, this former mercenary captain is the best example of a rough-talking, gold-loving mercenary for hire... who also happens to be a 4'1 young girl. Also, she wields a hammer bigger than she is. So there is that.
I know from previous DnD'ing that this is not only a character I can play, but that she's one of the most fun I've ever had the experience of playing, so the interest and playability is there. Her fighting style is simple but in a way that causes it to be immensely fun, and she's got a very easy motivation to do things - Treasure, gold, boredom are all things that can motivate her to try and steal Palpatine's best saber, smash through the church on the day of Thrall's wedding, and land a nasty promo on Diablo.
My only worry is there's less source material for her to work with, and without Rafhorn she might not be as fun as she once was to play.

3. "Chara"

[Image: storyshiffft_by_namirapolka-d9w3cnd.png]

Now we get into the "potentially illegal" section and I'm probably going to ask for staff ruling on this one in a different thread.
There is an undertale AU called "storyshift" which "shifts" different character's roles in their universe. Rather than a 1 to 1 swap, the characters shift in somewhat random fashion, though always in pairs.

In this AU specifically, Chara and Asriel take the place of the skeleton brothers, with Asriel taking on Papyrus's role as a quirky cinnamon bun that makes you play "humans and monsters" with him so that mom-I mean the head of the royal guard will accept him as a real guardsman.
Chara, on the other hand, ends up playing a version of sans that's more animated and more vicious at the same time.

This is a concept I absolutely adore, and I would probably love playing, but probably falls against site policy, so I'll probably talk to an admin about it at some point, but the potential to play someone who got that close to darkness, before pulling away at the last moment... it's an interesting idea, so I'll fling it up here.

4. Gimli

Another one that I have discussed in chat. Gimli, son of Gloin would also be a delightfully simple and interesting character to bring, and who doesn't, after all, love lord of the rings? Or Gimli, for that matter?
This version shall probably slightly lean closer to movie Gimli in personality, though I'd be citing a decent mixture of movie and book for different things. Gimli's probably one of the most fun character types to play, and his impact on the omniverse, I imagine, could be tremendous. his already existing reasons for hanging out with the dwarves (Being a dwarf) also help me figure out just what to do with him.

5. Riven
[Image: fanart__riven_by_shilin-d78oktf.jpg]

Young lady, big sword... PTSD! Riven is my all-time favorite league character, and her design's one of my favorites. The broken blade is actually someone I've written for before (Under the pretext of being younger and less experienced) in fanfiction form, and while I can't continue that for reasons it'd be fun to import some of that to a roleplaying area. I know I love writing for her, I know I love her backstory and design, and I know I have little reason to ever stop writing for her if I pick her.

Riven would be incredibly easy to play due to past experience, but comes with a couple risks:
-I don't play league anymore, and while I've loved the character a long time since I've put down league, it means I'M less familiar with some things than I should be
-she's a little similar to Weiss.

so these are the options I'm looking at.

As for Raal, sorry to everyone who really wanted to or had RPed with the character and wanted to see him continue. I wanted to see him continue, too, but in the end... it was just not to be.

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Okor - 08-24-2016

I'd put my vote towards Abathur, I'd quite like to see what you get up to with them.

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Guu - 08-24-2016

Taking Chara as a PC is out of the question. However, you can make Asriel the PC and make Chara a secondary. Consider Sans still has neutal run Frisk as a secondary, I don't see why not.

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Dawnika Snow - 08-24-2016

Sonaaaaaaa

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Illidan Stormrage - 08-24-2016

Abathur would be interesting to see.

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Sans - 08-24-2016

(I support SS Chara/Asriel. I support it 1000000000000000000000000000000000% )

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Marisa Kirisame - 08-24-2016

I would love to see Asriel and Chara's reactions to Flowey and Chara if they were to meet but what eves

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Alex - 08-26-2016

We already have a Chara.

Screw Abathur, be Kerrigan.

Please be infested Kerrigan.

The Queen Bitch of the Universe one. Not the shitty one from SC2.

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Sarah Kerrigan - 08-26-2016

I thought we already had a kerrigan so I couldn't do that?
I mean if it's allowed she'd definitely be a choice.

so as far as cutting things:

No one has interest in Gimli and frankly I believe him to be a good third if anything, so I'll leave him for now.

The SS characters shall be secondaries with Sans's permission (Which frankly fits them better than being primes regardless IMO)

I'd love to play Riven, but just too similar to Weiss and as a result I feel like excluding her. right now it'd be a very different story, but later writing of Weiss would be far too similar to writing Riven.

So currently, Abby, Kerrigan, and Sona are contenders

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Dark Link - 08-27-2016

Personally, if you intend to go the StarCraft route, I think you should stick with Abathur. While I'm sure you could do a good job as Kerrigan, I feel that Abathur suits your style of roleplaying better. Maybe it's just my impression, but you seem to do quite well as the more 'monstrous'/alien characters. That's not something a lot of people can pull off well (hence why there are so many humanoid/near humanoid 'aliens' in sci-fi shows), so I think it would be great if you capitalised on that talent.

Aside from that, I pretty much agree with Sona being the most viable second contender. Since I'm one of the lucky few to know about her, I know firsthand how much of a fun character she can be. That said, unless she develops an interest beyond just treasure or you bring in Rafhorn as an NPC, she might end up being more directionless than Abathur would be. That's really the danger with mercenary-type characters; they offer a lot of freedom, but that freedom can also wind up being a trap if you end up not knowing what to do with them.

Personally, I would go with Abathur. You have detailed knowledge of SC lore and having more SC characters around would certainly be fun. Plus, he still offers enough freedom that you could do a lot of things with him.

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Sarah Kerrigan - 08-27-2016

Just randomly decided to do up a Kerrigan writing sample:

- Kerrigan's sample

This is an incredibly rough draft with no editing, so be prepared for that, but it shows a lot of how I would play Kerrigan, at least in that particular instance.
I'll probably do an abs and sona one soon too

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Thaal Sinestro - 08-27-2016

I think Abathur would give you more freedom to change and evolve with the character, which is kinda a good place to be in on this site. Just my 2 cents

RE: Goodbye to the Death Knight (Switching) - Sarah Kerrigan - 08-27-2016

As might be obvious: Threw my hat in the ring for Kerrigan. Thank you to everyone who gave me input!
