10,000 Hours - Gildarts - 06-16-2015 It has been said, that it takes 10,000 hours to perfect a craft. I'm not sure I agree or disagree, but I'd love to hear your opinions on the matter. Does it take 10,000 hours to aspire to greatness? Or in this case, perhaps, a writing or role playing master? Re: 10,000 Hours - Erza Scarlet - 06-16-2015 10,000 hours to perfect your writing skills and style? Yeah, I'd say that sounds about right. That's if you're counting creative writing exercises in school, etc. and concerted efforts towards practicing, as opposed to literally just every time you're ever put a pen to paper or hands to a keyboard. The amount of time I've spent humming in my life is surely staggering, but I certainly can't say I've mastered singing. In the same vein, I've been reading and writing all my life, and that certainly helps as far as roleplaying, but since I've not put in countless hours of concerted effort to improve my writing, it's by no means perfect. Re: 10,000 Hours - Shay Cormac - 06-16-2015 I'd not say "every craft," really. A lot of things in life depend on a lot of variables, and to me, it's all about how flexible you are with those variables that matter, including how well you are at something, whatever that may be. In your case, Gildarts, I'd definitely say so in terms of writing, though! |
