Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Shay Cormac - 05-23-2015 As the title implies, post here for any Verse-related ideas or imaginings! For instance, suggesting an idea for a Verse with a certain setting behind it, or perhaps how you imagine some Verses that already exist to look like, and what lies within them. I mainly make this because I don't think the Verses here get enough talk, because after all, a good setting helps any story move along quite a lot. For my own little contributions to this thread as I sit and wait for opportunities to post stuff, I'll start off by this one idea I've always liked to see in this website, and the only thing I think it's really missing... A balance between Coruscant and Camelot, science and magic... A Magitech Verse. ![]() Honestly, when I first heard of this website, I immediately began to think this kinda place would be where every character would start off, a huge Verse where magically inclined wizards are just as powerful as crazy mad scientists, and everywhere you look, there's a strange mix of fantasy and sci-fi, somehow existing all at once, and the only explanation for that being Omnilium. Inventions start becoming stylized with old-fashioned looks, powered by rare lab-experimented elements and materials, or perhaps technomancy proficiencies fueling high-tech robots. Anyways, I have a couple more ideas for Verses, but I'll just keep it at that to let you all decide on a setting you'd like to roleplay on in the Omniverse! Heck, maybe we'll catch the staff's attention... wink wink nudge nudge :pink: Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Dark Link - 05-23-2015 In terms of existing Verses, I already expressed any ideas I have for them in this thread. As for new Verses...to be honest, I think the current ones already have plenty of untapped potential and that there isn't really a need for new Verses yet. That said, I wouldn't mind new locations and a Magitek-based one certainly sounds very fascinating to me. ![]() Out of curiosity, what would be some examples of Magitek-based locations in fiction? It's funny, but at least off the top of my head, I can't think of any (or, more likely, I just happen to not be familiar with the examples that do exist). All examples of Magitek I can think of are from settings that are otherwise predominantly fantasy/steampunk/cyberpunk based. Right now, I can't really think of an example of a setting where Magitek pervades every facet of that setting's society. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Chloe Price - 05-23-2015 Some sort of Comics-Verse would be cool, and it could have 3 locations, like the tiers of Coruscant; 1. Gotham City. The main point in this area would be Wayne Manor. Where the portal is. 2. Central City. I mean, I'm supposed to be The Flash. Main point in this area would be S.T.A.R Labs. 3. Marvel version New York. The main point in this area, the biggest in the Comicsverse, would be the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Shay Cormac - 05-23-2015 A really good example of a Magitech setting is pretty much Final Fantasy 6, where the term "Magitek" comes from in the first place. You can definitely see it's stylized with a medieval/futuristic combination of things. Also, Flash... We could have a sort of modern-day setting based off of New York where superheroes could thrive! Y'know, a nice city with skyscrapers, traffic, and filled sidewalks, something of the sort. While FF6 has Magitek, the setting itself (for the most part) consists of fantasy and steampunk elements. While Magitek obviously exists, it's pretty much restricted to military use and, for most people, isn't a major part of their everyday life. I more meant an example of a setting where Magitek is as ubiquitous as technology is in the real world. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Ganondorf - 05-23-2015 From what I'm looking at, many of the ideas above COULD be utilized in Coruscant. If you read the Verse descriptor, I believe there's a tier that's more or less modern day. Magitek could work in the lower tiers as well, where the Empire's influence and laws are less-enforced and more people are likely to delve into Kingdom-based magical stuff. 90% of the time, guys, if you have an idea for a Verse, you can find a way to fit it into the Verses we currently have. It is generally a hard thing to find, but that's exactly why I figure this place would be the best place to do it in. 'Sides, I like the idea so much mainly because I don't see it as often! Yeah, but that's generally why I made this thread a bit more than just "ideas for different Verses." Besides, there's still that 10%! Also, adding onto Verses that already exist and how we could bend it around a bit to fit a better variety of stories... Even if the Verses themselves have a set area and distance before it kinda just "ends," I'm certain you can still expand on them in a sense, right? Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Trixie - 05-24-2015 I want Giedi Prime the home planet of House Harkkonnen to be a verse that ties for power with the Empire on Coruscant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giedi_Prime Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Samus Aran - 05-30-2015 Coruscant Tier 5: Cesspool X Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Mami Tomoe - 06-01-2015 *Wakes up and sits up really fast* I'VE GOT AN IDEA. An undergrowth Verse!... I'm by no means guaranteeing this is a good idea, but it seems open to plenty of source materials and like it's not quite covered by any other Verses to be added to the Omniverse as a standalone Verse. ![]() (Open the picture in a new tab. It doesn't fit in my post, I think.) This Verse, partially because there are already gates in every cardinal direction and partially just because it makes sense, would be accessed mainly just by getting far enough underground in any of the main Verses (Non-special Verses, I mean, so not the Nexus, Dataverse, Astral Realm, Over/Underverse, etc). Once one went far enough underground, a horizontal portal/gate/whatever could be seen that would lead to this Verse. It would look similar to the picture provided, which comes from Skyrim, because no better visual representation of what I had in mind really exists. I wouldn't imagine that there would be many permanently present factions, at least not NPC factions, as it would be hard to stop PC factions from coming to exist there. It could probably be a place for criminals to hide or a place that's pretty far from safe. As an example relating to the source of that picture, the Falmer from Skyrim could take up residence there as a non-civilized threat (Or, more fitting to how people treat the Stormtroopers, they could be NPC punching bags). TL;DR: My idea for this is a giant cave with huge, possibly sentient plant life, and a possible uncivilized NPC faction in it could be the Falmer from the Elder Scrolls series. And because I'm tired now, good night~! Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Gin Yatreg - 06-04-2015 A verse for characters who choose to leave the omniverse or are sent back. Pretty much just a "Closure" Verse. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Lubbock - 06-04-2015 A post-apocalyptic verse would be nice, like a run-down modern city with radiation and zambies and shit like that. It would be a really good Verse for those with a thirst for a survival-type world. Factions and everything would work, having some of the more modern, gun-toting characters establishing a survival group. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Dr. McNinja - 06-04-2015 I'm down with modern city. We need a "normal" place. I'm a fan of comic book modern city because that shit gets destroyed and rebuilt over and over. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Mickey Mouse - 06-04-2015 A lot of the tiers of Coruscant really encapsulate the whole "modern city" aspect of things. Just because it's named after a Star Wars planet doesn't mean every single tier has to be inherently futuristic in nature. Yes, I'd take Han Solo there if I ever made him, to fly around on speeder bikes and use blasters and shit, but I'd also take the Punisher there, too. Now, another option for modern city that I think a lot of people miss is Costa Del Sol in the Vasty Deeps. It reads, essentially, to me (and someone who knows more than me can correct me if I'm wrong) sort of like an Atlantic City-type thing, like maybe a less seedy Las Vegas, obviously with more obvious Empire presence than such a city would have in the modern-day USA. But it really reads as modern-day city to me. As far as the whole idea of survival goes with the zombies, etc, I think that it's well within reason that somebody conjured up some undead secondaries in the Pale Moors. In fact, that might even be in the info topic, I'm too lazy to go check. EDIT: From the description of Tier 4: Quote:Highly advanced technology is scanter here than on upper tiers, mainly because the common citizen on Tier 4 is too poor to afford them. As a result, technology of everyday people is more outdated than Tier 3. From the description of Tier 5: Quote:In many ways, this tier has all the appearances of a large city from a pre-digital age. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Karl Jak - 06-05-2015 Tier 5 of Coruscant is essentially 1980s New York. And I would argue that there are probably contemporary-feeling cities in the Vasty Deep as well. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Omni - 06-05-2015 There is even an FAQ question about contemporary settings Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Belle - 06-05-2015 Equestria: ruled over by a protective and often capricious deity, this verse is populated by a host of magical beasts, both sentient and not. Having the appearance of a kingdom from a fairy tale, this verse is in actuality one of the most dangerous. Equestria operates under its own set of rules, ones established by its ruler, and those within its borders are compelled to abide by them. Unwary Primes can find themselves falling under the Princess' spell and becoming another addition to her pastel-colored host. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Tearen Wover - 06-05-2015 The Far Frontier Basically a space 'verse. No planets, just small moons and space stations. Need a place to put them space battles, natch. Re: Ideas for Verses, and General Verse Discussion Thread - Thaal Sinestro - 06-06-2015 Nealaphh Wrote:The Far Frontier This is something I've been really looking for, actually. I kind of assumed this would be the Void, but then I was hella wrong. If anything, I think it would be cool if the Void existed as it does now, but with a huge "space" aspect above it? If the laws of physics are all stupid there, it would make sense that gravity wouldn't work right. Stories could transition from walking to floating to space battles. There could be oxygen or not, depending on where you were. The vague "shit doesn't work right" aspect if the verse gives it a lot if wiggle room. |
