Top 5 Rappers - Deadpool - 03-29-2015 Just a simple thread where you guys can reveal your personal Top 5 Rappers. Also, you can list more than 5 if you wish. Explanations as to why you chose certain people is always helpful as well. I'll start. ( from 5 to 1) 5.) Eminem - One word comes to mind when I think about Em: versatility. Might be the most versatile rapper ever. He can spit that nonsensical crap that is typically on the airwaves, with much more skill, mind you; can spit lyrics that have real feelings of meaning to them; punchlines and metaphors are crazy; rhyme scheme and flow, he always can alter to best suit him as well. I would have possibly put him higher on list, but he had 2 albums that were subpar (by his standards) Encore and Relapse. 4.) (Nasty) Nas - By far the best lyricist. Vocabulary was something he managed to master at quite an early point of his career (Illmatic is my personal favorite rap album ever). If you were to search up his lyrics, and read them, you would be blown away. He was able to take life experiences and the experiences of those around him and create them into masterpieces. 3.) Tupac - Yes, by many people's standards this is quite low for Tupac. However, I would argue that his versatility was quite limited (9 albums, countless songs; how many do you remember?). Always used the same words in every song, only changing how he pronounced them. With that said, Tupac was the most impactful rapper ever. His classic songs held such strong emotions within the lyrics, and the stories that he told were significant in the black-american culture. Hood stories that were meant to uplift an entire culture of people. Brenda's got a Baby is one of the most powerful rap songs of all-time, and deservedly so. The only reason he isn't higher on this list is because, skill-wise, he was sub-par. 2.) Notorious BIG - Never heard him spit a whack bar. Never. His cool and slow flow made him seem nonchalant. His punchlines were second only to the person I have above him. One of the greatest story-tellers in rap, just beating Slick Rick by a head. Overtime a Biggy song came on you could literally close your eyes and envision everything he said. 1.) Big L - Simply the best. Every word spewed from his mouth rhymed. By far the best at punchlines and such. Also, his skill rubbed off on many young Harlem rappers that had skill (Ma$e, Bloodshed [RIP!], Kill Cam'ron, etc). Look up 97 freestyle against Jay-Z; he destroyed him, and had him stuttering. His rhyme schemes and flow were so vicious (only Papoose can compare. Maybe a mixture of Papoose and Cassidy, actually . . . x100000000). Its hard to explain how skilled and crafty Big L was, you would have to just listen for yourself. EDIT: Some Big L classic punchlines below... Fucking punk, you aint a leader; nobody followed you/ you was never shit, your mother shoulda swallowed you/ Put ya house up, or shut ya mouth up/ before i buck led, and make alotta bloodshed/ turn your tux red, far from broke i got enough bread/ and mad hoes, ask beevis, i get nothing butt-head/ Like I said earlier, this is my personal list. There were many rappers I had to exclude from my top 5. Many good rappers (Cam'ron, Jedakiss, Rakim, Papoose, etc) Re: Top 5 Rappers - Blackfire - 03-29-2015 In order. 1. Jay-Z - Word play and delivery. Love the subtle remarks in his lyrics. My only criticism with him is his excessive bragging about his wealth and possessions. Great rapper, just very conceited. 2. Notorious B.I.G - rhyming skills and delivery. 3. Fabolous - perhaps the most underrated rapper of all time. Lyrics are just so slick, and he has an unbelievable flow. 4. 2 Pac - self conscious rapper. Even when he wasn't rapping about society, he still made you want to just lsiten to what he was rapping about. 5. Nas - interjects socialist realism in to his lyrics. Loved his accurate description of Fox News in 'Sly Fox'. He's politically tuned in. He had bars for days too. Honourable mentions - Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, Lloyd Banks, Big L and Big Pun. Re: Top 5 Rappers - Drogon - 03-29-2015 1. Dum dums. They give you stuff when you send back enough - What more could you want? 2. Laffy Taffy. Terrible, terrible jokes. 'Nuff said. 3. Yu-Gi-Oh Booster packs. They're pretty, and collectible! 4. The stuff you put on, like, Christmas presents. I know it's technically "Wrapping Paper," but I think it counts. The excitement to just rip it open and find out what's inside is fantastic, gets me every time. 5. This is a tough one, but probably Tupac Re: Top 5 Rappers - Deadpool - 03-29-2015 You do know the difference between a rapper and a wrapper, right? Also, Fab is underrated. I like his nonchalant flow and clever lyrics. I'm not even going to get into the countless issues I have with Jay Z lol. If I did, this would become a thread about my distaste for him. xD Re: Top 5 Rappers - Blackfire - 03-29-2015 Deadpool Wrote:I'm not even going to get into the countless issues I have with Jay Z lol. If I did, this would become a thread about my distaste for him. xD I definitely understand where you're coming from. lol. Re: Top 5 Rappers - PepsiWhirda - 03-29-2015 5. Andre 3k 4. Rakim 3. Why? 2. Aesop Rock 1. Hopsin Re: Top 5 Rappers - Kurusu Akira - 03-29-2015 1: Eminem. This guy is the person who got me into rap music. I don't like all the stuff that he does, but there's a lot of his songs that I absolutely love, like Monster, Rap God, and Lose Yourself. 2: Macklemore. Only lost the top spot by a hair. I love his lyrics to death. Things like the entirety of Starting Over, and the opening to Thin Line; "The greatest trick that the devil ever pulled was convincing women that they look better in their makeup." 3: Jay-Z. Mostly by association with Linkin Park, including that one brilliant moment where he, Chester, and Paul McCartney were on stage performing at the same time. 4: Andre 3k. CLASS OF 3000, SING! 5: Rakim. Honestly, at this point, I don't have a reason. I just like some of the work he does. Re: Top 5 Rappers - Deadpool - 03-29-2015 Rakim doesn't need a reason to be anyone's top 5. his music speaks for itself. He was far ahead of his time, and many of his lyrics today are chopped up and turned into hooks for songs. It's hard to compare different generations of rap, but emcees like Rakim will stand the test of time. Re: Top 5 Rappers - Strazio Rockwell - 03-29-2015 5: Soul Kahn. He gained his fame by battle rapping and in my opinion he was one of the best. Everyone of his songs is dripping with wonderful rhythm and his delivery is perfect. He no longer battle raps, which is a shame because every one of his matches was very entertaining. Reccomended song - Speeding Bullets, Farenheit, and Soul like Kahn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foNiv7cV_zk 4: Whiskey Blanket: Ok, so this is a rap group and not an individual, but goddamn they are wonderful. They break out a wide array of instruments from the cello to the piano to the oboe, fricken fantastic. Their delivery is fast and aggressive, and their lyrics are very well thought out. Their songs are just flat out catchy. Reccomended songs - Blatto Nox and Rule the Roost https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk5tkWNdPP0 3: Ubiquitous and Godemis of Ces Cru: This rap duo is straight up awesome, each one of them are amazing artists on their own, but the way they play off each other reminds me of Eminem and Royce da 5'9. Their rap styles serve as perfect foils for each other, where Godemis raps aggressively like a battle rapper Ubiquitous bounces off him and offers incredibly well thought out and incendiary verse. Also they has sweet ass music videos. Recommended songs - Klick Clack Bang, Juice, Jimmy Stewart, and Seven Chakras https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjWNPWOxJlk 2: ¡MAYDAY! : Alright so another rap group. I like groups, sue me. The two main members of Mayday are Wrekonize and Bernz and alone they are powerhouses, together with the rest of the mayday crew they are unbelievable. Some of the catchiest songs I've ever listened to with some of the best lyrics. Almost beyond description, if you check anyone out I'd recommend them. Recommended songs - Badlands, Shots Fired, Strange March, Last One Standing, and Beast out the Box https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfIjpEh67RM Honorable Mentions - Army of the Pharaohs, Hopsin, K-flay, and Eminem 1: Tech N9ne: The man, the myth, the legend. Tech N9ne literally started from nothing and is now the co-founder of Strange Music, considered the number one idependent record label in the world. He is known for his wicked fast delivery and incredibly dynamic rhyme schemes. He is the man who got me into rap and hip-hop, this guy is amazing. He is able to switch between rapping styles at the drop of a hat, going from a very intricate rhyme pattern into a ridiculously quick chopper style. He often uses strings of alliterations and internal rhyme schemes, similiar to Eminem. Recommended Songs - Who Do I Catch, Worldwide Choppers, Red Nose, Straight Out the Gate, and many many more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKs5OsT4dIY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4kkzsRJObE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfbIhUYXzQ8 Re: Top 5 Rappers - Kenpachi Zaraki - 04-13-2015 Aang Wrote:1.
