Thaal Sinestro Wrote:Using t1 super defense on Orion
Thaal Sinestro Wrote:Which should mean no clash, and orions super goes through
Ganondorf Wrote:Guess I was late posting by 2 minutes or so? Maybe?

Also: I recapped stuff. Tom blasted Orion. I turned into a giant pig.

Soooo since Ganon's post pretty much preempted Thaal's due to it being all official like mostly. And Tom's spell hit by way of Ganon's post (thank you). How does this work for Thaal? I'm fine with him getting his SP back.

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Thaal Sinestro - 12-14-2015

I can write around it. There's a haze, reveals that, OH SNAP, there's a shield.

If somebody posting prevents the use of super defenses, it's possible to not give people a chance to defend. Like, just get people off the sane team to rapidly post super moves and nobody will ever get a chance to defend

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Tom Marvolo Riddle - 12-14-2015

From the sounds of that then Tom's spell defeats Orion's and Thaal's beats Tom's. No damage for anyone, except Tom who turned into paste by Ganon.

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Albert Wesker - 12-14-2015

Round 2 is over. Getting started on looking over things and handing out of injuries. We'll try and have this one done quicker than the first round, if at all possible. Hang tight, friends and neighbors.

If I block your super, it had no chance to clash, or at least that's the intent. I'll let the judges decide.

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Sasuke Uchiha - 12-14-2015

Orion super should still get trumped, its not like the roll was for nothing, right?
Two supers collide. Tom's wins... but, just before it hits, Thaal blocks it
Its not like Orion would suddenly get his super that was beaten by Tom's with a dice roll, right? Or no? Why did we roll if not tho?

These are questions, and are not intended to create any sort of uproar. =/

Edit:
Reason I ask is cause I thought Ganon already r/ped Tom's super trumping Orion's hitting Orion. So I thought the best Thaal could offer was slipping is shield in last minute for protection. It's too late for him to prevent Tom's super from hitting Orion's, no?

Well since our supers are traveling in a straight line intersecting each other at the same angle... Your shield (given its huge anyways) should technically block both supers attacks. Unless you intercept my super after it breaks his. Either way null damage. You can't however not intercept mine while permitting his as far as I know. Nothing in your shield says that unless you can control its shape and redirect power.

That is if it can intercept at all. Not sure if that's even possible.

Edit: Sasuke beat me but just food for though.

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Demetri Malius - 12-14-2015

Yeah, as for my stance I would say it feels unfair if you are just able to cancel out a pre-approved clash. Maybe just protect Orion from Tom's super, but overruling a clash seems to much to me. Either way, it's up to the judges.

(Also, just noticed, I believe this convo should be moved to discussion thread if it is to continue)

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Thaal Sinestro - 12-14-2015

If there is a mechanical action that is taken, we can easily write around that in the RP. We don't need to take everything at face value.

Example:
I block Tom's super, Orion retaliates and ends up hitting Tom. A super move hit the target, and the mechanical requirements were met.

In the situation where Tom counters a super with a super, I use my defense on his, negating his defense, meaning that, in a mechanical sense, the clash never happened. Now, Ganny described a clash, sure, but that doesn't have to be THE clash, and neither does his posting negate my ability to use a super defense, which I am using specifically to cancel it Tom's which, again, means that in a mechanical sense the clash shouldn't happen.

Is it messy to have to write around mechanics sometimes? Yeah, but its also the system. Having Orion be blocked and then hit Tom with another blast accomplished in the narrative what hastened outside if the narrative. It works, and it's an effective use of the rules

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Thaal Sinestro - 12-14-2015

So if I had posted it sooner, it would have worked differently? Should my availability in the balls ass middle of the night effect my ability to use my moves?

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Thaal Sinestro - 12-14-2015

If so, I think it's a pretty easy strat to just wait till somebody can't instantly reply, then use a super move, and have another person then call and post the resolution if the super move and never give them a chance to defend. Because that's exactly what you're proposing doing.

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Demetri Malius - 12-14-2015

Moved to discussion thread, but my argument still stands.

Sometimes writing around the system doesn't work when it raises direct contradictions with things that happened.

Blocking Tom's Super and having Orion retaliate is fine and good. One problem: Orion attacked first. Tom retaliated. Idea invalidated already.

In the instance where Tom counters, as has happened here, the chances of their being sufficient time to an outside observer countering a counter attack aren't that great. And yes, the clash Ganondorf described....was the clash of super moves. And since the clash was already resolved, yes, it does kind of negate your ability to use a Super Defense.

Thaal Sinestro Wrote:So if I had posted it sooner, it would have worked differently? Should my availability in the balls ass middle of the night effect my ability to use my moves?

The answer to the first part? Yes. Yes it would have.

The answer to the second part? No, not necessarily. The effect on being able to use your moves in this case comes from order of events.

How can you know when someone can or cannot instantly reply? You can't. So whether something like that happens or not is entirely irrelevant. People will call and post when they can. Whether it's deliberately planned out or not to do that is moot, but if it was then it would likely be obvious from the overpowering smell of fishiness.

And I don't think any judge would let something so obviously fishy fly. I know I certainly wouldn't.

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Thaal Sinestro - 12-14-2015

The literal nature of that interpretation of the rules is like, super weird to me. Yeah, Orion actress first, but the resolution of the mechanics sort if diminishes that possibility.

If we're gonna super finicky about the specifics of what happened in the narrative, maybe Orion's attack want completely diminished, there's still a tiny amount of ki bean that hasn't been pushed back yet. Toms attack pages it to the brink, I block that, then his surges forward again.

Honestly, the specific way that it happens seems nitpicky when the mechanics support their use in a different way.

As far as knowing when somebody can instantly reply, you just do what happened to me: wait till they're asleep. It's not that complicated.

I'm honestly pretty irate that I'm not being allowed to use my super moves in their mechanically supported way because I was asleep.

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Sasuke Uchiha - 12-14-2015

I mean, Thaal's Defense should totally work and protect Orion from harm. Totally. You just can't prevent Tom's Super from beating back Orion's, because it has already been ruled on and written out. You super isn't being thrown to the wayside. Without it, Orion would have gotten nailed with a super....

That's all. You still got full use of your super. =/

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Thaal Sinestro - 12-14-2015

Not only that, but I posted my defense before Ganondorf posted, so saying that his post negates my right to use my super defensive is also pretty whack

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Thaal Sinestro - 12-14-2015

It's honestly not with fighting over, but I think that's pretty riddic

Re: Legacy and War (Official Business) - Tom Marvolo Riddle - 12-16-2015

Out of curiosity, what was the break down for injury on Orion between Avada Kedavra Super and the partially blocked Hearthfire Charm on Orion? 3/1 is my guess? Trying to figure in comparison to Ganon's being crucio'd though its muddied by the penalty. Mostly for my personal understanding of the system, not anything I want to contest.
