Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Magus - 09-15-2013

I prefer leaving the default names. The fact they're regionally/nationally accurate makes me happy. I had three German girls carrying my team by my endgame -- beat it on normal ironman my first time through so there were many deaths.

The game's fantastic. I might do another runthrough; I'm positive I'd do tons better knowing how the game works this time.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Omni - 09-15-2013

Try classic difficulty. The fun is the strong possibility of losing as opposed to just seeing how well you can do. Lots of people, myself included, consider classic (ironman) the 'true' game.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-15-2013

Ironman Impossible marathon is the 'true' game.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Omni - 09-15-2013

I would consider that to be the mandatory unfair difficulty mode for people who really like challenge and/or dickwaving. Classic is challenging but mostly fair. It hits the midway point where winning is still as likely as losing, and it's still fun. It's where most gamers will get the most enjoyment and the 'intended' XCOM experience.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-15-2013

I was kidding

Ironman Impossible, even without marathon, is like smashing your balls in a pneumatic compresser over and over.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Omni - 09-15-2013

Everyone survived the mission, two new satellites went up. Samus got injured again, though not grievously. Link missed an 82% chance to stun an Outsider and take his laser rifle, despite my meticulous preparations allowing him to get close enough. Everyone give a round of applause to Link. *slow clap*

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Ganondorf - 09-15-2013

I could've told you that you can't rely on Link for anything. :p

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-16-2013

Finally got a file that is going well. Got beam weapons research under way. Managed to get by without using too many explosives (which means I'm happy to start using more of them now) everyone is getting good promotions and no-one has taken more than 7 days in sick bay so far.

I've also decided to name them after Nanoha series characters, since Greg has got Omniverse crew down pat.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-16-2013

So that previous file was lost when a random blackout happened and the save just vaporised. Kinda sucked.

However... I started a new one and it's going incredibly well. No losses at all so far, got two majors and we just finished the first terror mission with a PERFECT score.

So glad I rushed beam weapons. Two laser rifles just cut up those aliens.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-19-2013

The highway terror mission map can fuck right off.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Magus - 09-19-2013

I love hearing about Nanoha's suffering. XD

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Omni - 09-25-2013

Everything was going perfect, then ... VIP escort mission. It got messy. Lost Ganondorf. Then the VIP. After that I deigned to just run, getting everyone (mostly out of ammo) behind high cover. Then he somehow takes out Nyx from behind high cover, him at a long distance and lower ground. Me: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I had to save and quit right there. Fucking XCOM.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Ganondorf - 10-03-2013

Greg got me this game for an early Christmas gift. Yay!

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Omni - 10-03-2013

Yes ... 'gift' ...

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Ganondorf - 10-03-2013

I had a squad member die on a tutorial stage on normal mode. I feel inadequate.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Nanoha Takamachi - 10-03-2013

Greg, gifts are meant to bring joy. You're doing it wrong! You had one job!

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Ganondorf - 10-03-2013

Why is this game so addictive?!

Also, it's not so bad on Normal. I got through the first month and a half only losing three guys. Finally got me some lazer guns. For lazering.
