Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Violet - 09-03-2013 lol your sig quote Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Omni - 09-03-2013 I need to add a psyduck smiley, in order to be able to appropriately react to that post. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Ganondorf - 09-03-2013 I could have continued it further, but damn... that's some top-level redneck logic right there. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-03-2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om7O0MFkmpw Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Ganondorf - 09-03-2013 S'good thin we dun spik Inglish her. Ya'll Brits and Brit-likes keep yer Inglish en we's gonna kip speakin Murikan. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Ganondorf - 09-03-2013 That was an enjoyable video, by the way. Also, I like hold down the fort... I dunno why, but it ALWAYS made sense to me... like for some reason down is just an intensifier to hold... Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-03-2013 I'd never even heard 'hold down the fort' before that video. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Ganondorf - 09-03-2013 I do have a questions... the video insinuated that Brits call trunks: boots... I just have to ask why? Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-03-2013 We call them that too. The 'boot' of a car. I dunno, probably has some old English or latin origin I suppose. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Violet - 09-03-2013 Boots...are typically shoes, so wouldn't...logically, the tires be boots? A trunk is another word for an ass. the back end of a car is analogous to an ass. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-03-2013 Trunk is also a term for the major section of a tree, so shouldn't we call the major section of the car a trunk, then? Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Proto Man - 09-03-2013 Wait who says duty with two d's? Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Omni - 09-03-2013 I'm just doing my doodie. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Ganondorf - 09-03-2013 Trunk just seems more appropriate that boot. I mean, not from the tree point of view, but from the storage item point of view. You put stuff in a normal trunk, you put stuff in your car trunk. They even open similarly... As for duty... well, I tried pronouncing it differently, but it just sounded weird. Like when I try to pronounce century like sen-too-ree rather than sen-shur-ee. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Omni - 09-03-2013 I've heard americans say cen-too-ree. I would say cent-yer-ee, and when said quickly it comes out as like cen-cher-ee. For duty it's like dyoo-tee, or joo-tee. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Ganondorf - 09-03-2013 I honestly can't imagine saying duty in any way other than doo-tee. Which, obviously, can cause hilarity. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-03-2013 We don't call them storage trunks either. Suitcase, chest, something like that. Trunk, to me, is either the trunk of a tree or the trunk of an elephant. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Omni - 09-03-2013 Ganondorf Wrote:I honestly can't imagine saying duty in any way other than doo-tee. Which, obviously, can cause hilarity. I think it's because americans generally drop the 'y' sound from those words. Duty, century. You still say like ... Urine correctly, and uranus, assumedly because to not do so would be a waste of a goldmine of 12 year old humour. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Ganondorf - 09-03-2013 In that case, duty is just fine. America as a whole still has the mental maturity of a 12 year old. Re: The Catch-All Term for Myself and Greg - Magus - 09-04-2013 We use the British 'cent-yer-ee' (actually more like 'cent-chur-ee') up in the Northern Wastes, but not 'dyu-tee' because that's ridiculous. <.< I also agree that 'hood' and 'trunk' make more sense than 'bonnet' and 'boot' because... albeit I'm a huge Top Gear fan, those words in that context make you sound like a crazy person. Although, 'hood' and 'bonnet' are both arguably stupid terms for the metal-plate-what-covers-the-engine-bits, but 'boot' is totally nonsensical, and 'trunk' isn't. I also had Greg say the word 'hover' the other day to glorious hilarity. Oh, good times.
